Plot
In Sara's class, the popular kids, also known as the kings and queens, are subjected to daily humiliations, which include having their pants pulled down or water thrown on them, but this is only a sign of their elevated status. Sara is the only blond and blue-eyed girl in her class, and she is completely overlooked by the kings and queens who do not have blond hair and blue eyes. She has a secret crush on one of the kings, who is way out of her league, and she doesn't have any friends either, but would like to become friends with Karen, also an outsider who aspires to a better status. One day, Sara eyes an opportunity to boost her popularity by humiliating herself and thereby become queen. Karen instantly becomes her friend, she seems to catch the eye of her kingly crush and popularity appears within her reach. However, her happiness is short-lived, and in the end she learns a far more valuable lesson than how to be queen for a day.

We all have a dark place.
One day, he went looking...
[first lines]::Narrator: In my heart, I love knowing that he's with me. I love knowing he's near. I hope he doesn't disapprove too strongly of what I'm going to do now.
Karen: Where are you headed?::Narrator: In the right direction, I hope.
Cigarette: You think we'll get away with it?::Narrator: Whether I get away isn't really the point, is it?::Cigarette: I guess not. You could probably always plead insanity anyways.::Narrator: What makes you say that?::Cigarette: You're talking to a fucking cigarette.
Narrator: What was it like hearing their cries of fear?::Bartender: You know why they pay so much? Because of the cries.
The Voice: Hello?::Narrator: It's me.::The Voice: Are we on a safe line?::Narrator: Yeah, I'm at a pay phone.::The Voice: You must be close then.::Narrator: Not far. A few more hours.::The Voice: Have you found them yet?::Narrator: The first one. Didn't realize he'd be so young.::The Voice: Well, his organization has grown. He doesn't need to be the one on the streets these days. Besides, young men make for better hunters.::Narrator: Piece of shit.::The Voice: That's right. Hold onto that.::Narrator: Yeah.::The Voice: Hey, you're a good man. You'll be a hero when this is through.::Narrator: Was there anything else?::The Voice: Yeah, make sure it hurts.
Narrator: [voice over] They told them I was coming. They thought this through. I just have to finish it. I begin to relax, sip my beer. Everything is set in motion.
Narrator: He's back, I know it. He's somewhere.
Narrator: [voice over] He's a sweetheart, huh? That's my youngest brother, or rather was my youngest brother, the day of my first wedding. Yeah, my first wedding, I know. Two and holding, thank you. That goes for the divorces as well, two and holding. That's Nicky waiting for my mom outside of the ladies room. I went on my honeymoon the next day and then moved away all at the same time. I never saw him again. See within six months no one would ever see him again - he vanished. Literally, not a single trace, not even the courtesy of a phone call or ransom note or anything. There was a shoe, not his, near the supposed scene of the abduction. I held onto that shoe for a long time, kept it in my car. I don't know why. His room is still as it was back then, mom insists on it. It's locked mostly, bed still unmade, toys and furniture as they were. They get dusted, that's about it. Mom is still waiting. She's sure he'll come back, having made his way in the world with outrageous tales to tell about how he's been in the merchant marine or some-such. But he won't and not even I can convince her of that. He won't, they just never come home. They don't. They unfortunately live forever at the age they disappeared at, all funny and sweet and loving and not knowing the horrors of the world. Let alone the horrors that befall them for just being at the wrong place at the wrong time. I often, too often, think of him at that moment of taking, that moment of realization. "I'm in trouble. Is this really happening? Where is my brother?"
[repeated line]::Nicky: Wake up, wake up!
Business Man: Cute kid. What's he, five? Six? That's the popular age.

I met the sweetest of angels yesterday.
And I knew it was true
Since she got those
Flowers with a message
"The Angels are watching your every move"
And I never saw the most innocent of clothes
That she's chosen for her mission.
Is there a thrift shop in heaven
Where the clothes of the pure go?
She must have picked them up there.
Soul sisters?
We chirped and chattered,
Exchanged blessings.
I watched lighted sparks spring
Oh yes, there's electricity in angel wings.,
Karen, I'm not taking sides
I don't think I'll ever do that again
I'll end up winning and I won't know why
I'm really trying to shine here, I'm really trying
You're changing clothes and closing windows on me all
the time
Well, whatever you do, listen, you better wait for me
No, I wouldn't go out alone into America
Whatever you do
Listen, you better wait for me
No, I wouldn't go out alone
Karen, we should call your father, maybe it's just a
phase
He'll know the trick to get a wayward soul to change
his ways
It's a common fetish for a doting man
to ballerina on the coffee table cock in hand
Well, whatever you do
Listen, you better wait for me
No, I wouldn't go out alone into America
Whatever you do
Listen, you better wait for me
No, I wouldn't go out alone
Without warm water in my head
All I see is black and white and red
I feel mechanical and thin
Hear me play my violin again
I'm living in the target's shoes
All I see is black and white and blue.
Idle, idle, idle, idle, protect the nest
Protect the title
Karen, put me in a chair, fuck me and make me a drink
I've lost direction, and I'm past my peak
I'm telling you this isn't me
No, this isn't me
Karen, believe me, you just haven't seen my good side
Well, whatever you do
Listen. you better wait for me
No, I wouldn't go out alone into America
Whatever you do
Listen, you better wait for me
No, I wouldn't go out alone
Without warm water in my head
All I see is black and white and red
I feel mechanical and thin
Hear me play my violin again
I'm living in the target's shoes
All I see is black and white and blue
Idle, idle, idle, idle, protect the nest
Protect the title
I must be me, I'm in my head
Black birds are circling my bed
I must be me, I must be me
Black feathers are falling on my feet
Idle, idle, idle, idle, protect the nest
Protect the title
I see you found your soulmate
Well what did he do before
I see you found your precious
He's the gift that's been brought to your door
You say that I'll always be special
Tell me now, what does that mean?
I feel I've been cast as a villain
Well tell me now, how could that be?
Karen, how can you be so mean?
everybodys watching you for signs
hope you can confuse them with your mind
everybodys watching you for secrecy
where you running to selfishly
a careless interview
Summer can burn out in the stream,
Holding back, diving after me.
You can't share.
everybody thinks youre on your way
hope you can keep prying eyes away
everybody thinks of you with secrecy
where you running to selfishly
a careless interview
Summer can burn out in the stream,
Holding back, diving after me.
You can't share.
you no you can't share
everybody thinks youre on your way
hope you can keep prying eyes away
everybody thinks of you with secrecy
where you running to selfishly
a careless interview
Summer can burn out in the stream,
Holding back, diving after me.
You can't share.
you no you can't share
Come on baby look at me
Should I let you weep for long?
Wanna tell you how to win right now
Like no other
Come along... For a night... I want you!
Speed you up 'cause I get crazy...
Why... This emotion gets too hard to be controlled
Never let you go
This time I won't let you down
Never let you leave
My passion is true
Never let you go away
Won't let you leave
I'll never lose my burning desire
Do you wanna come tonight
I would like to watch your eyes
Could I show you how to get more love
There is a place where I would like
to find what I've lost
and dream what I want
There is a chance that I could take
running away from you
I feel ready to go and shine again
'cause I dont wanna' fight for you
I wanna' spend my time in a better way
running away from you
I would fly in the sky for a night or more
'cause I deserve to live my life
See what I want
Dream for a while
the freedom is in my heart
I would fly in the sky for a night or more
'cause I deserve to live my life
See what I want
Dream for a while
Feel what I need for my heart
I used to hunger for you touch
and even for love for kissts and more
I used to rock you all night long
dreaming away with you
I feel ready to go and shine again
Cause I dont wanna fight for you
I wanna spend my time in a better way
Running away from you
I would fly in the sky for a night or more
'cause I deserve to live my life
See what I want
Dream for a while
the freedom is in my heart
I would fly in the sky for a night or more
'cause I deserve to live my life
See what I want
Dream for a while
Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
In the land that I heard of
Once, once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare you dream
Really do come true
Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds
Are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops that's where you'll find me
Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds
Are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops that's where you'll find me
Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true
If happy little bluebirds fly
Above the rainbow
