David Blunkett's claims of Roma migrants causing riots in UK streets 'unhelpful and unproductive' David Blunkett's comments on Roma migrants causing riots in cities across Britain have been branded 'unhelpful' and 'not productive' by a lobby group director. The former home secretary had said that Roma youngsters were culturally different 'because they were living on the edge of woods and not going to school'. But Atul Hatwal, director of the Migration Matters Trust, told Metro that more needed to be done to integrate Roma into local communities. He said: 'Tensions are understandable when there is rapid change, and there is not enough done to bring communities together. What's more useful will be solutions. What is the way for Roma to be more integrated into the local community? 'It's one thing to acknowledge a problem but it's more productive to define the solution and that's what he hasn't done in his statement.' Yesterday, Mr Blunkett warned that an influx of Roma migrants could heighten racial tension and cause riots comparable with those between white Britons and Asian communities in 2001. The MP told BBC Radio Sheffield: 'Roma youngsters have come from a background which is actually even more different culturally because they were living on the edge of woods, not going to school, and not used to the norms of everyday life. 'You're right on the edge of understandable tensions because they are understandable. It's a cry for help from many people -- please, for goodness sake, put us back to at least the semblance that we had before. 'We saw this in Bradford, Burnley and Oldham all those years ago when I first became home secretary.' Dave Brown, head of Migration Yorkshire, conceded that some of Mr Blunkett's remarks could be seen as stereotyping Roma. However, he said he believed the MP for Sheffield, Brightside and Hillsborough was not criticising them. He told Metro: 'Mr Blunkett was just highlighting where there are issues in local areas and where the cultural differences are creating problems. 'I don't believe he is blaming Roma for this. His message is that despite the difficulties in a time of austerity, there is still work going on but councils are struggling without the resources. 'Some tensions are understandable, but some is because of a misperception that Roma are doing something wrong. If Roma people are outside your house late at night chatting, they are probably not doing something wrong, but it might make you uncomfortable. 'Roma communities are here to stay. The important thing with any community is that we integrate them. There's no point in hoping things will change.' Ukip leader Nigel Farage has warned the MP's concerns should be taken seriously. He said: 'Mr Blunkett should be admired for the courage he has shown by speaking so plainly on this issue. Of course the type of language he has used I would have been utterly condemned for using. 'My question is if [the government] won't listen to the dangers of opening the door to Romania and Bulgaria next year when Ukip speak out on it, will they listen to David Blunkett? A dream two minutes of drama at Bramall blew Charlton Athletic away and sent Sheffield United into The FA Cup Semi-Final. Second-half goals from Ryan Flynn and John Brayford within 120 seconds of each other earned the Blades their spot at Wembley as Nigel Clough's side deservedly progressed. A wall of noise greeted the teams as the home faithful belted out their famous 'Greasy Chip Butty' anthem as the action got under way. Sheffield United had already dumped three teams from higher divisions out of The Cup on this run, overcoming Aston Villa, Fulham and Nottingham Forest, and it was clear the home fans were confident of claiming another scalp. The Blades started well, taking the game to their nervy-looking Championship opponents, but failing to create a clear-cut opportunity. As the visitors settled, they themselves began to enjoy more of the ball, with Diego Poyet and Johnnie Jackson attempting to push the Addicks forward. Callum Harriott's left-foot dipper from 25 yards was well held by keeper Mark Howard on 22 minutes as the Addicks recorded their first real effort of note. Charlton were pushing their opponents further back, and after a neat build-up Marcus Tudgay struck from the edge of the area, but his low drive was saved by Howard down to his left. The match swung once again as the first-half neared its close, and United took back control. Firstly Jamie Murphy, encouraged by the roar of the Kop behind the goal, shot from distance but dragged his effort wide of the post. Then on 38 minutes, Jackson was booked for a lunge on Ryan Flynn down the right. The defence failed to properly clear the resulting free-kick. As it was fired back the ball deflected off a defender into the path of Conor Coady, who took a touch before drilling past the keeper. However, a linesman's flag for offside soon dampened the celebrations. The hosts were really turning the screw as the half-time whistle approached and with seconds remaining Harry Maguire strode forward from the back to begin a move which resulted in Bob Harris shooting just over from the edge of the area. Charlton had regained their composure as the second-half began, and they had a massive chance to take the lead on the hour mark through Callum Harriott. A ball was whipped across the area and he slid in with the goal at his mercy, but as Bramall Lane held its breath, the Charlton winger whizzed his effort wide to the delight of the home fans. And how costly that miss would prove to be just five minutes later as Ryan Flynn sent the red half of Sheffield into dreamland. He met Jose Baxter's cross right footed at the back post to prod home from close-range as the stadium erupted. Charlton were well and truly rocked, and two minutes later they suffered a fatal second blow as the roof came off. The Blades sealed their place at Wembley through John Brayson, whose right footed effort from outside the box seemed to take a deflection, wrong-footing Hamer in goal, before nestling in the bottom right corner. Charlton were gone as United refused to relent, and they had further opportunities to stretch their lead. There was another disallowed goal for Coady, but in the end two goals were enough. Hull City edged an eight-goal thriller at Wembley to make it through to their first-ever FA Cup Final at the expense of League One Sheffield United. Trailing 2-1 at the break, four second-half strikes from Matty Fryatt, Tom Huddlestone, Stephen Quinn and David Meyler completed a stirring comeback. Nigel Clough's Blades had impressed and shocked in equal measure during their run to the last four, a run which had accounted for Aston Villa and Fulham in the earlier rounds. They were aiming to become the first side from the third tier to reach The Cup Final since the formation of the Football League in 1888. And they appeared on course to complete their historic mission when Jose Baxter and Stefan Scougall each steered home low crosses to cancel out Yannick Sagbo's first-half strike. Bruce made a double change at the break, bringing on Fryatt and Sone Aluko for George Boyd and Maynor Figueroa, and his team reaped the reward, scoring three times in 18 minutes to effectively set up a showpiece clash with Arsenal next month. Jamie Murphy pulled a goal back for United in the final minute, but Meyler had the final say by completing the scoring in added time. The opening quarter of this Semi-Final, the 900th match to be played at Wembley Stadium, sailed by without incident -- save for Huddlestone's speculative effort from the halfway line that Mark Howard gathered comfortably. However, the remaining 70 minutes more than made up for a lacklustre start. Both sets of supporters were in terrific voice in the April sunshine, and there was arguably more going on in the stands than on the pitch early on -- until Baxter lit the touch paper for a breathless hour of action. The Blades won a throw-in deep in the Hull half, the bearded John Brayford delivered a low centre and former Everton forward Baxter, who helped Oldham knock out Liverpool in last season's Fourth Round, stole in at the near post ahead of James Chester to direct the ball home -- and send the hoards of red-and-white-shirted fans wild at the far end of the ground. United grew in confidence and a passage of passing midway through the first half had their fans 'Ole-ing'. However, unable to capitalise on their dominance, the Bramall Lane outfit were undone by a magnificent piece of play from Jake Livermore. With the interval approaching, the Tottenham loanee dissected the United defence with a wonderful through ball to the far post which Sagbo plundered into the roof of the net for the equaliser. City's joy was very short-lived, though, as United responded immediately. Murphy did brilliantly to scamper down the left flank, past two Hull defenders, and sent a ball into the box which Scougall lashed home from six yards out to give the Blades a deserved half-time advantage. But the half-time changes paid dividends for Hull, who were on top straight from the restart. Fryatt levelled four minutes into the second half, turning home from close range after Chester's miscued shot fell invitingly for him just a few yards out. The substitute thought he had a quick-fire second until he turned round to see the assistant's flag raised for offside. The third goal did come just moments later. Huddlestone played a neat one-two with Meyler, skipped into the box and placed a left-foot curler beyond Howard's desperate dive. The Blades were in full voice once more, urging their team to pull off a remarkable draw, but Hull broke away and Meyler slotted home in added time to seal victory.
