Asiafest is a cultural showcase hosted by the Asian American Student Association along with other student organizations held every spring on Georgetown University's campus that stands to promote Asian-American talent. This year's showcase included the following acts: 1. Samulnori - 1:35 Samulnori is a Korean folk genre of traditional percussion music that was originally performed by farmers in celebration of good harvests. While it usually consists of four different instruments, there are many variations within the genre, two of which GU Samulnori brings to the stage today. We showcase the more traditional janggu section and add our own modern twist in collaboration with Hoya Break Squad (HBS). 2. GU Tae Kwon Do - 9:48 We will showcase three cornerstones in Jhoon Rhee Tae Kwon Do: Martial Ballet form to "Pirates of the Caribbean," medley of board breaking, and self-defense through fight choreography. This year, we will also feature a fourth component which is also taught by our instructors: Taiji (Tai Chi) through the Chen Taiji 13 Form. 3. Vietnamese Student Association (VSA) - 17:09 An act aimed at bridging the cultural gap in Vietnamese dance and music, the Vietnamese Student Association will be performing a co-ed traditional-modern fusion dance act incorporating fans, rice hats, and hip-hop done to modern Vietnamese techno and rap. 4. Chinese Student Alliance - 22:00 Tai Chi, an ancient form of Chinese Kung Fu, has been long considered as a means to improve health. However, few people know that this slow and gentle practice actually originated as a martial art and set its feet in the philosophical context of Taoism. With our performance, we will present the other side of this masterpiece, in which softness and power melt together in perfect proportion. 5. Cow Parc - 26:15 Cow Parc is an organically constructed cover duo at Georgetown University. The group was founded out of a common interest in procrastination, trolling, and late night jam sessions... you know the kind with a little too much to drink ;) On snow days, we build snowmen, and on sunny days, we walk on sunshine. At night, we're counting stars. We are Cow Parc... and we like ramen and hummus. 6. Sakuranomics - 35:00 J-Net presents a fusion of traditional and popular dance with a delightful touch of otaku culture. The soranbushi's sheer intensity and choochoo train's energy won't fail to impress. But beware, kaitou shojyo's enrapturing charm will surely unleash your hidden otaku spirit. Sit back and enjoy our showcase of authentic Japanese dance. 7. TASA's Angels - 54:30 Once upon a time, seven angels fell onto this world. They danced until their hearts' content, motivated by the dream of one day performing on Gaston's stage. Their hard work paid off, for tonight, they will be performing a sensual fusion dance of American R&B; and Taiwanese hip hop. Please enjoy the show as TASA's lovely angels dance for you. 8. Flip Dis Funk Dat (FDFD) - 59:13 vFlip Dis Funk Dat is an entirely student-run fusion dance group that blends traditional Filipino dances with modern hip-hop. As part of Club Filipino, the dancers in FDFD learn about the beautiful Filipino culture that influences our style. We welcome anyone and everyone who wants to dance, no auditions required! We would like to thank: AASA for inviting us to perform at their showcase, Club Filipino for their support and guidance, and our dancers for their commitment and enthusiasm. 9. Erin Claire - 1:06:14 A piano performance of "Sunny Rain" by Korean composer Yiruma. 10. Hoya Break Squad - 1:09:29 Hoya Break Squad showcases energetic urban dance coupled with creative hip-hop and popping. We hope to inspire you to let your imagination run free and enjoy the world of breakdancing as we see it everyday. 11. KSA: All or Nothing - 1:23:50 Coming from halfway across the world, KSA brings you All Or Nothing (AON), Georgetown's Kpop dance crew. With dances taught by freshman Jung Yong (Théo) Lee, the dance team has worked to bring the Georgetown community a taste of some of Kpop's most famous dances. Whether it be from howling wolves to embracing the moon, you know Kpop's got you covered. AON will be performing covers to EXO's "Wolf," Sistar's "Give It to Me," Sunmi's "Full Moon," miss A's "Bad Girl Good Girl," and Orange Caramel's "Catallena." If you thought you knew Kpop, we're bringing a whole new meaning to Kpop--Georgetown style.
