Surat Ad-Dukhan (Arabic: سورة الدخان suratu d-Duḫḫān) (Smoke) is the 44th sura of the Qur'an with 59 ayat (verses).
Indeed, the tree of Zaqqum (43) Is food for the sinful (44) Like murky oil, it boils within bellies (45) Like the boiling of scalding water (46) [It will be commanded], "Seize him and drag him into the midst of the Hellfire, (47) Then pour over his head from the torment of scalding water." (48) [It will be said], "Taste! Indeed, you are the (so-called) honored, the noble! (49) Indeed, this is what you used to dispute." (50)
Depiction of the life of Paradise, in the Holy Qur'an, is in such words and description that we can perceive it as if we are watching a video recording. Few scenes are of social gatherings and parties amongst family friends along with wives and youngster sons and grandsons. On such occasions, people tend to wear costly and beautiful dresses.
Downstairs they're playing Kenton
The house set to swing
I lay in my bed
And listen to everything
Cause Leo's in rare form tonight
His trombone sings so sweet
This is the room
Where they all come to meet
He said
I do what I can
I live for the moment
And that's who I am
Yeah that's who I am
And isn't it good
If we could freeze moments in time
We all would
But I do what I can
I do what I can
Downstairs he's playing Kenton
The Magnavox sighs
But oh how the music has changed
In all of our lives
He says "nobody listens
To modern jazz"
And I'll never have what those guys have
He says
I do what I can
I work for a living
And that's who I am
Yeah that's who I am
And it's good to be alive
But everything's different since Leo died
I do what I can
Is this the end of the modern world
What could it mean for a young girl
Who sees the pain on his face
He does what he can
The procession on the TV screen
What could it possibly mean for a man
Who's come this far just to turn around
Could there still be life in Kenton's swing
With the Kennedys gone and everything
Those sad rows of houses with their optimistic colors
Democrat grandparents and draft-dodging brothers
Riots down the street and discontented mothers
We do what we can
Downstairs it's quiet
Less alive somehow
Somehow he was everything that I am now
And he says
I do what I can
I work for a living
And that's who I am
And that's who I am
But it's good to be alive
And these are the choices
We make to survive
You were once my vice
Now you're just like ice
So cold and too cool
You know how to hypnotize
You wear a great disguise
I've learned to see through
[Chorus]
What do I know
What do I know
I'm confused by things that you do
What do I know
What do I know
I can't stop thinking about you
I don't see wrong from right
But I could see the light
Stopped shining in you
And on a distant night
You went and lost the fight
That made me look up to you
[Repeat Chorus]
[Repeat Chorus]
What did you change for
[Repeat Chorus]
What did you change for
Everything happens
Don't look for patterns
You only perceive what you believe
You need only believe to believe
A map of illusion
Of this land of confusion
I saw the boy clad in leather
For ever and ever and ever
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
There's no turning back now
I'm under attack now
I don't need a mirror to see
Just what has happened to me
There's no contradiction
Between fact and fiction
I saw the skies open
And I heard the word spoken
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
Everything happens
Don't look for patterns
You only perceive what you believe
You need only believe and you'll believe
A map of illusion
Of this land of confusion
I see a boy clad in leather
For ever and ever and ever
There's no turning back now
I'm under attack now
I see the skies are open
And I hear the word spoken
You only perceive what you believe
You need only believe to believe
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know about love
only that you live without it
it chewed you up and spit you out
What do you know about life
maybe you read a few books
and maybe you'd skip through a chapter or two
cause you haven't got a clue
What do you know about anything
you always talk a big game
but in the end you'll only complain
cause that's all you know about
Love is the greatest happiness
Do you want to tell me something
Open up my world for me baby
With another stupid lie that gets you by
One of those stupid lies that gets you by
Do you wnat to show me something
Or are you just describing it to me
Just look me in the eye / When you say why
Oh, look me in the eye / When you say why
'Cause what do YOU know
That I would want to
Where do you go
That I could belong
Do you feel one little bit
What you've become
So go on shoot your mouth off
Like it might kill the silence
Say you would rather die
Than see me cry
You would rather die
Than see me cry
But what do YOU know
That I would want to
Where do you go
That I could belong
Do you feel one little bit
What you've become
Do you want to tell me something
Open up my world for me baby
With another stupid lie that gets you by
One of those stupid lies that gets you by
Then what do YOU know
That I would want to
Where do you go
That I could belong
Do you feel one little bit
What you've become
Do you feel one little bit
What you've become
Do you feel one little bit
What you've become
Pick up the phone, nobody's home
I'm all alone, we've all been here before
Yesterday I saw a change, another way
As you walked out the door
It's a twist, a little bit, I'll admit
But we're stronger than before
Open up, we've had enough, we've had enough
And now we're holding on and waiting
What do we know? What do we know?
What do we know? What do we know?
What do we know? What do we know?
I'll tell you what they're all saying
What do we know? What do we know?
What do we know? What do we know?
What do we know? What do we know?
I'll tell you what they're all saying
We all try to be somebody
But the world around us makes it so cloudy
When we don't trust where we're supposed to
But the blood on the hands says we're not close to the answer, yeah
But maybe if we pull together we can change
A million lives for the better
And maybe if we prayed a little more
We will stop living in fear from the storm and everyone sings
What do we know? What do we know?
What do we know? What do we know?
What do we know? What do we know?
I'll tell you what they're all saying
What do we know? What do we know?
What do we know? What do we know?
What do we know? What do we know?
I'll tell you what they're all saying
Tell you what they're all saying
Every part is you, every part is me
Raise your hands and sing, tell them we can be
Show them who you are, show them you can see
Raise your hands and sing, tell them we are free
What do we know? What do we know?
What do we know? What do we know?
What do we know? What do we know?
I'll tell you what they're all saying
What do we know? What do we know?
What do we know? What do we know?
What do we know? What do we know?
I'll tell you what they're all saying
What do we know? What do we know?
What do we know? What do we know?
What do we know? What do we know?
I'll tell you what they're all saying
Every part is you, every part is me
Raise your hands and sing, tell them we can be
Show them who you are, show them you can see
Raise your hands and sing, tell them we are free
What do we know? What do we know?
What do we know? What do we know?
What do we know? What do we know?
I have a friend who just turned eighty-eight
and she just shared with me that she's afraid of dying.
I sit here years from her experience
and try to bring her comfort.
I try to bring her comfort
But what do I know? What do I know?
She grew up singing about the glory land,
and she would testify how Jesus changed her life.
It was easy to have faith when she was thirty-four,
but now her friends are dying, and death is at her door.
Oh, and what do I know? Really, what do I know?
I don't know that there are harps in heaven,
Or the process for earning your wings.
I don't know of bright lights at the ends of tunnels,
Or any of those things.
She lost her husband after sixty years,
and as he slipped away she still had things to say.
Death can be so inconvenient.
You try to live and love. It comes and interrupts.
And what do I know? What do I know?
I don't know that there are harps in heaven,
Or the process for earning your wings.
I don't know of bright lights at the ends of tunnels,
Or any of those things.
But I know to be absent from this body is to be present with the Lord,
and from what I know of him, that must be pretty good.
Oh, I know to be absent from this body is to be present with the Lord,
Everything happens
Don't look for patterns
You only perceive what you believe
You need only believe to believe
A map of illusion
Of this land of confusion
I saw the boy clad in leather
For ever and ever and ever
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
There's no turning back now
I'm under attack now
I don't need a mirror to see
Just what has happened to me
There's no contradiction
Between fact and fiction
I saw the skies open
And I heard the word spoken
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
Everything happens
Don't look for patterns
You only perceive what you believe
You need only believe and you'll believe
A map of illusion
Of this land of confusion
I see a boy clad in leather
For ever and ever and ever
There's no turning back now
I'm under attack now
I see the skies are open
And I hear the word spoken
You only perceive what you believe
You need only believe to believe
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
What do you know?
I make it my firm policy
To make my bed with honesty
So, I don’t sleep with shadows in the room
The truth is I’ve been holdin’ back
The way I feel about the fact
That I’m not as close as I want to be with You
There’s still so much more of You I long to know
and I won’t be content until I do
CHORUS
‘Cause what do I know
If I don’t really know You
Though I may blow the minds of men
How can I say that I know
Anything of love
Unless I find it in Your hands
I’m not playing playground games
I’m not reading Dick and Jane
And I don’t need a pass to walk the halls
I’ve graduated in my faith
And still I’ve barely pushed the gate
That opens to the one true know-it-all
I could win a nobel prize or rule the world
But, I would die a genius with no clue
REPEAT CHORUS
BRIDGE
Life is such a cruel deception
Without You to lead my quest
I’d fail the test
Hey, I've been around, I've seen it all
Love is a chain around your heart that holds you down
You're better off runnin' away before it starts
I wanted to chase my dreams away
I thought freedom meant everything
But hey, hey, what do I know
I'm just the lonely fool that let you go
And now what do I do?
Thought I could live without but what do I know
Look at who I've become, I wanted it all
Oh, but that hasn't happened yet
Look what I've done? I built a wall
In between me and happiness
I had the answers, I made the rules
And I thought I had nothing to lose
But hey, hey what do I know
I'm just the lonely fool that let you go
And now what do I do?
Thought I could live without but what do I know
All of your life you're sitting inside
Watching the world go by
Taking your time oh never mind
There's really no reason to try
What do you know?
Taking the risk, oh taking the time
Nobody seems to oblige
Waiting for someone to show you the way
It's hard to see hope in their eyes
And then they tell you about the things you've done
They know the answers, but really, what do they know?
What do you know?
Woops, oh what's your mistake?
I know it's so hard to try
They beg you to leave, oh they beg you to stay
It's never an easy ride
What do you know?
So here's a chance to show to you
All of the things in your way
The message is clear but it's hard to hear
So listen to what we say
Armchair critics-in the vidicon age
Washed in the light of a one eyed god
Mtv anarchy and commercialized rage
Selling us revolution in our own back yard
Ignorance is the drug in the land of the free
As another generation-falls to the disease
Swallowing the lies and hypocrisy
Nurturing and breeding mass conformity
Our apathy feeds-the corporate lie
Alive but dead-and wasting away
Complacency reigns-idiot slave
watching our world-fading away
Well I tried to be nice, and I tried to be here,
And I tried to be everything all at once.
Well what was it like? No, you're never here,
And I can't be everything.
She told me: "It's all right."
But I'm over you now,
She said: "Hey! It's all right."
And what do you know?
Well I thought of it a lot, and I thought of coming clean,
So did you, and that's a lie.
She said: "Nice timing." And I laid my head on her shoulder,
Was she thinking of you?
She told me: "It's all right."
But I'm over you now,
She said: "Hey! It's all right."
And what do you know?
She told me: "It's all right."
But I'm over you now,
She said: "Hey! It's all right."
And what do you know?
I've got something to say to you,
Does it hurt that we don't talk anymore?
You know that it hurts me too,
The way I'm feeling when you don't call.
Have you got something to say to me?
It must be something, something that you can't see,
I've got something to say to you,
It means nothing though.
She told me: "It's all right."
But I'm over you now,
She said: "Hey! It's all right."
Hey I've been around I've seen it all
Love is a chain around your heart that holds you down
You're better off runnin' away before it starts
I wanted to chase my dreams, I thought freedom meant everything but
Hey, hey what do I know
I'm just a lonely fool that let you go
And now what do I do
Thought I could live without you but what do I know
Look who I've become I wanted it all, oh but it hasn't happened yet
Look what I've done, I've built a wall in between me and happiness
I had the answers I made the rules
And I thought I had nothing to lose but
Hey, hey what do I know
I'm just a lonely fool that let you go
And now what do I do
Thought I could live without you but what do I know
I had the answers I made the rules
And I thought I had nothing to lose but
Hey, hey what do I know
I'm just a lonely fool that let you go
And now what do I do
Thought I could live without you, without you, but what do I know
And now you tell me that we're through
I gave my better time to you
How can you say that I'm to blame?
You're the one that isn't quite the same.
Think on it girl,
Think on it girl
What do you know?
I've tried to be both just and fair
Have I insisted that you care?
Have I misused the right to choose?
And who can say that you're to lose?
Think on it girl,
Think on it girl
What do you know?
I feel as though
I'd like to know
What did I do
Did I force you to go?
I ask you
How can you tell me that we're through
I've seen the world more than you
How can you tell me to my face
You've found someone else to take my place?
Think on it girl
Think on it girl
What do you know?
I feel as though
I'd like to know
What did I do
Did I force you to go?
I ask you
How can you tell me that we're through
I've seen the world more than you
How can you tell me to my face
You've found someone else to take my place?
Think on it girl,
Think on it girl,
I have a picture of a place
That never makes any sense to me
But I know that it's right there where it should be
And always will
So I drink another sip
I talk another talk, I drop another hint
And I can convince myself I'm anything I want to be
Until the lights come on
What do I know I (what, what do I know)
At the end of day there's still nothing below
What do I know I (what, what do I know)
You can hoist yourself to the top of the world
What do I know I (what, what do I know)
Like a flea, you'll keep on spinning in the wind
There is a room not far from town
Everybody want to go, but no one has the time
We stand around and wonder what life would be like
Without all these decorations
While we dream another dream
Don't know whose it is, but it seems worth while
And we spend hours dressing each other with our eyes
Until the lights come on
What do I know I (what, what do I know)
At the end of day there's still nothing below
What do I know I (what, what do I know)
You can hoist yourself to the top of the world
What do I know I (what, what do I know)
Like a fly, you'll keep on spinning with the wind
What do I know
What do I know
Hold that smile with both your hand
You're only getting younger
And with all you answers
And all you plans you hope will last forever
But the sun moves, and the lights shifts
It's tomorrow now, isn't it
The moment was captured nice and slow
You're staring at it so hard where can it go
What do I know I (what, what do I know)
At the end of day there's still nothing below
What do I know I (what, what do I know)
You can hoist yourself to the top of the world
What do I know I (what, what do I know)
Like a fly, you'll keep on spinning in the wind
What do I know
What do I know
Until the lights come on
