Thomas Dekker (actor)
Thomas Alexander Dekker (born December 28, 1987) is an American film, television actor, musician and voice actor. He is also a singer and has written and produced two albums.
He is best known for his roles as John Connor in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Adam Conant on The Secret Circle, and Zach on Heroes. He also did the voice of Littlefoot in The Land Before Time V-IX (singing voice in The Land Before Time V) and as Fievel Mousekewitz in An American Tail: The Treasure of Manhattan Island and An American Tail: The Mystery of the Night Monster. He is also known for playing Jesse Braun in the 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street, and recently, Smith in Gregg Araki's film Kaboom. Dekker also starred as Gregory Valentine in the TV show Backstrom.
Early life
Dekker was born in Las Vegas, Nevada. His mother, Hilary, is a concert pianist, acting coach, actress, and singer, and his late father, David John Ellis Dekker, was an artist, set designer, opera singer, and actor. His mother is British (Welsh) and his father was American, with English and Dutch ancestry. As a child, he and his parents moved all over the world, including his mother's native United Kingdom and Canada.

He went on to score guest spots on The Nanny (1993), Seinfeld (1989), Star Trek: Voyager (1995) and Caroline in the City (1995) before finally landing a regular spot on Disney Channel's Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: The TV Show (1997). For three years he took on the role of Nick Szalinkski, creating a name for himself and finding a nice niche in the Disney universe. When he wasn't on set filming, he was lending his voice to sequels for The Land Before Time and An American Tale.Honey I Srunk The Kids ended its run in 2000, but Dekker continued to make appearances in television, including a recurring role on the family drama 7th Heaven (1996). A big break presented itself when he was cast as Zach in the first season of Heroes (2006). Though after appearing in only eleven episodes, he was offered the role of John Connor in Fox's Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (2008) in 2008. While the premise of the show was widely popular (having been adapted from James Cameron's Terminator franchise), it struggled to maintain a steady audience and was canceled after only two seasons.2008 was still a busy year for Dekker. He took on the role of Aidan, a troubled teen in the horror flick From Within (2008). Meanwhile, he also took part in the web-based series IQ-145 (2008). Though his biggest project came when he decided to try his hand in film production. He wrote, directed and starred in Whore (2008), a film about a group of teenagers who travel to Hollywood to pursue their dreams but discover a much darker side to fame. A year later, he received the part of Taylor Ambrose, a Leukemia patient in the drama My Sister's Keeper (2009) alongside Cameron Diaz and Abigail Breslin. The role was rather timid and intelligent because it let Dekker immerse himself in a character he has never played before. In early 2010, he took a stab as Jesse Braun in the re-imagining of A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010).Dekker's most recent role is Lance Loud in Cinema Verite (2011) with Diane Lane, Tim Robbins and James Gandolfini.

When he wasn't on set filming, he was lending his voice to sequels for The Land Before Time and An American Tale.Honey I Srunk The Kids ended its run in 2000, but Dekker continued to make appearances in television, including a recurring role on the family drama 7th Heaven (1996). A big break presented itself when he was cast as Zach in the first season of Heroes (2006). Though after appearing in only eleven episodes, he was offered the role of John Connor in Fox's Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (2008) in 2008. While the premise of the show was widely popular (having been adapted from James Cameron's Terminator franchise), it struggled to maintain a steady audience and was canceled after only two seasons.2008 was still a busy year for Dekker. He took on the role of Aidan, a troubled teen in the horror flick From Within (2008). Meanwhile, he also took part in the web-based series IQ-145 (2008). Though his biggest project came when he decided to try his hand in film production. He wrote, directed and starred in Whore (2008), a film about a group of teenagers who travel to Hollywood to pursue their dreams but discover a much darker side to fame. A year later, he received the part of Taylor Ambrose, a Leukemia patient in the drama My Sister's Keeper (2009) alongside Cameron Diaz and Abigail Breslin. The role was rather timid and intelligent because it let Dekker immerse himself in a character he has never played before. In early 2010, he took a stab as Jesse Braun in the re-imagining of A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010).Dekker's most recent role is Lance Loud in Cinema Verite (2011) with Diane Lane, Tim Robbins and James Gandolfini.

But there's another point: aren't some people soooo busy earning money, they actually forget about the real life ? Kids that rarely see their father, because he's busy making another million, tensions that rise in a couple because the husband is a bit jealous because his wife earns much more than him etc. I've had a boss who completely forgot about the 18th birthday of his olderst daughter, absorbed by yet another big order. I'm not even talking about the sad spectacle whenever such couples break up, and the fight over the money begins, the silly "keeping up with the Jones's syndrome", the tensions between those that aren't smart enough to earn a lot of money, but somehow think they deserve it too, and take the shortest way to such stacks, by agressive action (robbery assault and battery, breaking in houses, murdering etc.)

Norma Thomas Yes, she did. She was a very generous person with a soft heart. I think if Barbara would have had maternal, (and paternal), love, she would have fared much, much better in her life. She was always searching for love and most people who came near her were only searching for wealth and she was an easy touch. I'm convinced that losing her mother at such a young age really destroyed her inside. She wasn't aware of it, but the lack of real, unconditional motherly love was her undoing.

+jen vel Hence some millionaires want their children to earn themselves, in stead of giving them the money they easily could miss. But there's another point: aren't some people soooo busy earning money, they actually forget about the real life ? Kids that rarely see their father, because he's busy making another million, tensions that rise in a couple because the husband is a bit jealous because his wife earns much more than him etc. I've had a boss who completely forgot about the 18th birthday of his olderst daughter, absorbed by yet another big order. I'm not even talking about the sad spectacle whenever such couples break up, and the fight over the money begins, the silly "keeping up with the Jones's syndrome", the tensions between those that aren't smart enough to earn a lot of money, but somehow think they deserve it too, and take the shortest way to such stacks, by agressive action (robbery assault and battery, breaking in houses, murdering etc.)

I think people that do better with money are often those that know what it takes to earn it. the squanderers tend to be the ones who had it handed to them and never learned the value of work. not always but usually.

Um, she should have had enough money for her lifetime, even considering her prolific spending, but her lawyer, Graham Mattison really robbed her blind. He was shameless in how he exploited, and profited from, Barbara. It says much that he was MUCH wealthier than Barbara when she died.

Norma Thomas Yes, she did. She was a very generous person with a soft heart. I think if Barbara would have had maternal, (and paternal), love, she would have fared much, much better in her life. She was always searching for love and most people who came near her were only searching for wealth and she was an easy touch. I'm convinced that losing her mother at such a young age really destroyed her inside. She wasn't aware of it, but the lack of real, unconditional motherly love was her undoing.

While the pamphlet may be very ready to capitalize on the sensational story of a witch and portray Sawyer as simply a bad woman, the play does not permit an easy and comfortable demonization of her. Professor Cindy Horst presents her paper Conceptualizing migrants as social actors in migration systems: A view from the periphery' in the second Keynote for the conference Examining Migration Dynamics: Networks and Beyond, held at the University of Oxford from 24-26 September 2013.
Agency of migrants is increasingly acknowledged and explored in migration studies, particularly work on transnationalism. Migration systems theory however, has traditionally had a more deterministic and structural focus. This paper argues the importance of incorporating a richer analysis of how migrants as social actors influence and are influenced by migration processes. The analysis is based on nearly 90 in-depth interviews with Brazilian, Moroccan and Ukrainian migrants in Norway, and 30 in-depth interviews in Brazil, Morocco and Ukraine with returnees from Norway and family members of migrants in Norway. This allows us to explore opportunities and challenges of the migration system perspective, and the potential role of migrants as social actors within it. We ask how useful the migration system perspective is for understanding migration to the periphery of European migration destinations. The paper argues that migration systems thinking, with its focus on pioneers, feedback and threshold, only explains certain migration flows while obstructing a better understanding of others.
There are great differences between migrants with relatively easy access to Norway, for example through connections to Norwegian individuals and companies, and those without. We explore these differences between 'wanted' and 'unwanted' migration streams, moving from more 'systemic' cases to those that migration systems theory offers less. First, a discussion of Moroccan migration to Norway places this traditionally network-based migration corridor in a wider European frame. Second, an exploration of the highly diverse marriage migration with Norwegians shows the differentiating impacts of class for Brazilians (and Ukrainians) in Norway. Third, the large group of students and professionals in the Ukrainian (and Brazilian) case illuminate the highly individualized trajectories of Europe's wanted migrants. Theorizing migration dynamics through the lens of systematically exploring socio-economic differences, allows a richer and more diversified picture of migrants as social actors within or beyond a systems perspective.

Benjamin "Ben" Jonson (c. 11 June 1572 -- 6 August 1637) was an English Renaissance dramatist, poet and actor. A contemporary of William Shakespeare, he is best known for his satirical plays, particularly Volpone, The Alchemist, and Bartholomew Fair, which are considered his best, and his lyric poems. A man of vast reading and a seemingly insatiable appetite for controversy, Jonson had an unparalleled breadth of influence on Jacobean and Caroline playwrights and poets.
By summer 1597, Jonson had a fixed engagement in the Admiral's Men, then performing under Philip Henslowe's management at The Rose. John Aubrey reports, on uncertain authority, that Jonson was not successful as an actor; whatever his skills as an actor, he was evidently more valuable to the company as a writer.
By this time Jonson had begun to write original plays for the Admiral's Men; in 1598 he was mentioned by Francis Meres in his Palladis Tamia as one of "the best for tragedy." None of his early tragedies survives, however. An undated comedy, The Case is Altered, may be his earliest surviving play.
In 1597 a play which he co-wrote with Thomas Nashe, The Isle of Dogs, was suppressed after causing great offence. Arrest warrants for Jonson and Nashe were issued by Queen Elizabeth I's so-called interrogator, Richard Topcliffe. Jonson was jailed in Marshalsea Prison and charged with "Leude and mutynous behavior", while Nashe managed to escape to Great Yarmouth. Two of the actors, Gabriel Spenser and Robert Shaw, were also imprisoned. A year later, Jonson was again briefly imprisoned, this time in Newgate Prison, for killing Gabriel Spenser in a duel on 22 September 1598 in Hogsden Fields (today part of Hoxton). Tried on a charge of manslaughter, Jonson pleaded guilty but was released by benefit of clergy, a legal ploy through which he gained leniency by reciting a brief bible verse (the neck-verse), forfeiting his 'goods and chattels' and being branded on his left thumb. While in gaol Jonson converted to Catholicism, possibly through the influence of fellow-prisoner Father Thomas Wright, a Jesuit priest.
In 1598 Jonson produced his first great success, Every Man in His Humour, capitalising on the vogue for humorous plays which George Chapman had begun with An Humorous Day's Mirth. William Shakespeare was among the first actors to be cast. Jonson followed this in 1599 with Every Man out of His Humour, a pedantic attempt to imitate Aristophanes. It is not known whether this was a success on stage, but when published it proved popular and went through several editions.
Jonson's other work for the theatre in the last years of Elizabeth I's reign was marked by fighting and controversy. Cynthia's Revels was produced by the Children of the Chapel Royal at Blackfriars Theatre in 1600. It satirised both John Marston, who Jonson believed had accused him of lustfulness, possibly in Histrio-Mastix, and Thomas Dekker. Jonson attacked the two poets again in 1601's Poetaster. Dekker responded with Satiromastix, subtitled "the untrussing of the humorous poet". The final scene of this play, whilst certainly not to be taken at face value as a portrait of Jonson, offers a caricature that is recognisable from Drummond's report -- boasting about himself and condemning other poets, criticising performances of his plays, and calling attention to himself in any available way.
This "War of the Theatres" appears to have ended with reconciliation on all sides. Jonson collaborated with Dekker on a pageant welcoming James I to England in 1603 although Drummond reports that Jonson called Dekker a rogue. Marston dedicated The Malcontent to Jonson and the two collaborated with Chapman on Eastward Ho, a 1605 play whose anti-Scottish sentiment briefly landed both authors in jail. By this time Jonson had begun to write original plays for the Admiral's Men; in 1598 he was mentioned by Francis Meres in his Palladis Tamia as one of "the best for tragedy." None of his early tragedies survives, however. An undated comedy, The Case is Altered, may be his earliest surviving play.
In 1597 a play which he co-wrote with Thomas Nashe, The Isle of Dogs, was suppressed after causing great offence. Arrest warrants for Jonson and Nashe were issued by Queen Elizabeth I's so-called interrogator, Richard Topcliffe. Jonson was jailed in Marshalsea Prison and charged with "Leude and mutynous behavior", while Nashe managed to escape to Great Yarmouth. Two of the actors, Gabriel Spenser and Robert Shaw, were also imprisoned. A year later, Jonson was again briefly imprisoned, this time in Newgate Prison, for killing Gabriel Spenser in a duel on 22 September 1598 in Hogsden Fields (today part of Hoxton). Tried on a charge of manslaughter, Jonson pleaded guilty but was released by benefit of clergy, a legal ploy through which he gained leniency by reciting a brief bible verse (the neck-verse), forfeiting his 'goods and chattels' and being branded on his left thumb. While in gaol Jonson converted to Catholicism, possibly through the influence of fellow-prisoner Father Thomas Wright, a Jesuit priest.
In 1598 Jonson produced his first great success, Every Man in His Humour, capitalising on the vogue for humorous plays which George Chapman had begun with An Humorous Day's Mirth. William Shakespeare was among the first actors to be cast. Jonson followed this in 1599 with Every Man out of His Humour, a pedantic attempt to imitate Aristophanes. It is not known whether this was a success on stage, but when published it proved popular and went through several editions.
Jonson's other work for the theatre in the last years of Elizabeth I's reign was marked by fighting and controversy. Cynthia's Revels was produced by the Children of the Chapel Royal at Blackfriars Theatre in 1600. It satirised both John Marston, who Jonson believed had accused him of lustfulness, possibly in Histrio-Mastix, and Thomas Dekker. Jonson attacked the two poets again in 1601's Poetaster. Dekker responded with Satiromastix, subtitled "the untrussing of the humorous poet". The final scene of this play, whilst certainly not to be taken at face value as a portrait of Jonson, offers a caricature that is recognisable from Drummond's report -- boasting about himself and condemning other poets, criticising performances of his plays, and calling attention to himself in any available way.
This "War of the Theatres" appears to have ended with reconciliation on all sides. Jonson collaborated with Dekker on a pageant welcoming James I to England in 1603 although Drummond reports that Jonson called Dekker a rogue. Marston dedicated The Malcontent to Jonson and the two collaborated with Chapman on Eastward Ho, a 1605 play whose anti-Scottish sentiment briefly landed both authors in jail. Although the Terminator is back, Arnold Schwarzenegger is not this time around. The upcoming TV series, "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles," stars Lena Headey ("300") as Sarah.
Although Headey did not compare herself to the original Sarah Connor played by Linda Hamilton she assured everything but the actors remained true to the franchise.
"It's got all the stuff from the movies that everyone will expect. The bigger themes are there," noted Headey. "The themes that are kind of universal and important and also you've got a chance to explore these characters more every week. The action is always there. The action is big and it's fast. It's a feature of abortions so it's cool."
Set after the events of "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," "Chronicles" opens in 1999 as Sarah and her 15-year-old son, John (Thomas Dekker) attempt to have a normal life.
Soon Sarah and John stay in one place, evading evil robot detection, determined to stop SkyNet, the computer system of the future that's hell-bent on destroying humanity.
Terminator fans might be used to Schwarzenegger's famous line, "I'll be back." The new Terminator played by 27 year-old Summer Glau, has long brown hair, almond brown eyes and a soft feminine voice.
"Well luckily I'm completely different from Arnold and I think that it was a really smart idea because no one will ever take his place. He's Arnold Schwarzenegger. He is the Terminator to so many people. So we wanted to do something that was completely different and I think I am."
Arnold Schwarzenegger may be too busy as 'governator' of California to reprise his cyborg character on TV, but the playfulness he brought to the "Terminator" saga remains.

"Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" will have a two night premiere on FOX starting Sunday, January 13th from 8 to 9 pm et/pt. The time-period premiere will air the following night from 9 to 10 pm et/pt).

Aristocrat Rowland Lacy falls in love with middle class girl Rose Oateley, but Rose's father and Lacy's uncle refuse to approve the match because of the class difference and Rowland's spendthrift lifestyle. Rowland is told to redeem himself by joining the army fighting in France. To avoid going, he persuades someone else to take his place and disguises himself as a Dutch shoemaker, Hans. He becomes an apprentice of eccentric but hard-working tradesman, Simon Eyre, and negotiates a business deal that bags his employer thousands of pounds. Eyre is made Sheriff of London and later, Lord Mayor.
