Pashtun/Pathan People ( Iranian People )
Pashtun/Pathan People ( Iranian People )
According to most anthropologists, the Pashtuns appear to be primarily of Aryan descent similar to the Persians, Kurds and Tajiks. The Pashtuns have eastern Iranian origins as the Pashto language is classified as an eastern Iranian tongue distantly related to Ossetic among other Iranian languages. The Pashtuns (also Pushtun , Pakhtun , ethnic Afghan , or Pathan are an ethno-linguistic group of people, living primarily in eastern and southern Afghanistan , the Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa Province, and small communities in India. The Pashtuns are characterized by their indigenous code "religion" of honor and culture, Pashtunwali (pukhtoonwali). The Pashtuns are the world's largest lineage (patriarchal) tribal group in existence. The total population of the group is estimated at ca. 40 million. From the 1st century BC to the 5th century AD the regions where the Pashtuns lived saw immense migrations of peoples from Central Asia and the Middle East: the arrival of the Sakas, Kushans, Huns, Gujjars. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pashtuns http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iranian_peoples http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scythans http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarmatians- published: 16 Oct 2013

Lemar TV
LEMAR TV, (meaning ‘dawn’ in Pashto) Afghanistan’s most popular Pashto language channel, approached us to re-design its on-air identity and logo to mark the network's fifth anniversary.
After extensive research and design exploration, we developed a visual identity inspired by the patterns and colors found in traditional Pashto textile embroidery. The interlocking shapes of the patterns also reflect the unity and connection people have to one another and to their rich cultural heritage.
The network logo was subtly reshaped to be more streamlined, balanced and viewer-friendly.
Working with Supersoul Productions the music incorporates traditional Pashto instruments as well as ambient sounds recorded on the streets of Kabul.
In addition to the two idents viewable here, we also created 3 others as well as a comprehensive promo toolkit and menu system.

Swazey Guloona - Afghan song by Sajjad Toru
Video Transscript:
From America til China,
From CHina til Midle East
Anyone who thinks we are begging them for money,
they are wrong, we don't need your money
We, afghans are no beggars, Allah has gifted us with a very rich country
And our known and unknown heroes have served this country with there life!
"It is my wish, to see the kids of our nation studying for a bright future. Then no one will betray them. We will make this wish come true, Insha'allah -
Flowers are burning, in red fires
Everyone is crying within, were is the candle
in these dark nights
Everyone is living in messiery
It is my wish, to see the kids of our nation studying for a bright future
Then no one will betrey them.
We will make this wish come true, insha'allah
Why are you forbidding me to develop my language, why can not our language be official language in office, why can not our kids learn there mothertontue
We have no problem with any language of the world, but Pashto will be our official language, the power of our country will be in the hands of our nation
"we sold our land, very cheap, we sold our sky very cheap"
We gave a loan of millions of Rupees to this Pakistan, and still they call us inferior and poor
The water of our Abaseen river are stolen by Pakistan, and again they call us needy
This Pakistan betrayed us, by dividing the Pashtun nation!
"What did we do to our selfes, what will become of us, if we sell ourselfes
We Are forgetting our history and anciet culture"
"Allah is with us, we will succeed"
Like other countries of the world, Afghanistan Also has the right to be independent, But Pakistan is not letting them, Pakistan must swear by God to leave Afghanistan, and do not play withit anymore.
From America till rusia, all countries including these Punjabis, all must accept the independence of Afghanistan.

1996-November: The Saudi Tapes
This sequence shows the first ever televised interview with Osama Ben Ladin. It's part of a 48 minute Channel 4 ‘Dispatches’ programme about the growing opposition movements in Saudi Arabia.
Production Notes:
This film was a scoop of veteran journalist and documentary filmmaker Gwynne Roberts. He was one of the few people in 1996, who knew about Osama Ben Ladin's role as a terrorist. For many years Gwynne nurtured contacts to radical Islamists and one of them offered to organise an interview with Ben Ladin in Afghanistan. It was the beginning of a new trend where these radical Islamists started to use Western media channels for their propaganda.
Gwynne hired me as a cameraman because I had local knowledge from previous work in Afghanistan. We embarked on an extraordinary journey in Taleban land. Only a few months earlier they captured Kabul. It was the most destroyed city I have ever seen. But neither the Talebans nor the Russians have been responsible for all this devastation. The bombing was done by competing Mujahedin warlords after the Russian retreat in 1989. Despite all the bad press about the Talebans, I always feel it's important to remember that certain Afghan warlords were much worse. In fact, in 1996 we met lots of ordinary people in the Pashtun areas who welcomed the Talebans because they established some form of law and order. Before it was total anarchy.
Working with Gwynne was a great opportunity to learn the journalistic trade from a master. Unfortunately, I never met Osama Ben Ladin personally. For security reasons he didn't allow me to do the filming myself. I had to train a bodyguard to use my camera. Only Gwynne was allowed to meet the world's most wanted man. But he wasn't allowed to ask spontaneous questions. He had to write them down on paper and Ben Ladin answered in a 30 minute propaganda monologue. Not much of this footage got used in the final film because Gwynne was only allowed to use one section without any cuts. At the time I was surprised that Gwynne stuck with the deal and didn't use more footage. But in hindsight I now understand. He knew perfectly well that breaking a deal with Ben Ladin could have turned into his death sentence.

1985-August: Minefield Casualty
This clip of an Afghan Mujahedin getting blown up in a minefield epitomises the beginning of my documentary filmmaker career. It was the most frightening moment in my life.
Production Notes:
In 1985 I studied Political Science at the University of Zurich but wasn't particularly inspired by the academic life. I was eager to travel and discover the world so looked for an opportunity to try my luck in journalism. In school I always struggled with spelling and with my Swiss German accent, and didn't feel at home with proper German. Therefore, I wasn't very confident with my primary languages - let alone with any other language. Documentary film making was the obvious solution to overcome my difficulties with writing.
Fortunately, I was able to start as the entire television industry switched from film to video. Equipment quickly became affordable. Even I, as a newcomer with no experience, could try and get my foot into the door.
What makes a 23 year old student leave a cosy, comfortable life in Switzerland and plunge into a war in Afghanistan? Clearly, I was not driven only by rational argument. I must admit, irrational motivations also played a role.
On the rational side there was a political dimension. I was aware how news was always tinted by ideologies because I had grown up during the Cold War. Personally, I came from a conservative family background and mostly exposed to a capitalistic free market perspective of the world. The Russian Communists who invaded Afghanistan in 1979 clearly were the bad guys. But in the 1980s Western media were not particularly interested. They focused mainly on the left wing liberation wars in Latin America - at least that was my perception in Switzerland. I was seriously annoyed about the unbalanced selection of newsworthy stories. I found it scandalous that an exodus of over 2 million Afghan refugees into Iran and Pakistan did not win greater attention. As a consequence I decided to try my luck and produce a report. There was a gap in the market. I felt it would be easier to break into the TV industry with a story that didn't have much competition.
On the irrational side I was running away from a hopeless love affair - pathetic but true. I'm sure that all too often young men and women are prone to get trapped in emotional frustrations and we are therefore at risk to take crazy, irrational decisions.
I didn't act in total isolation. I heard about another young Swiss, Beat Kraettli, who was already preparing a trip to Afghanistan and who had started a career as a photo journalist. I called him up and we agreed to join forces. Beat didn't have more experience than I. However, it was reassuring not to be the only guy who wanted to report about events in Afghanistan. I never mentioned my unhappy love affair and entered a world where I ran away from my own emotions. In hindsight, it was an ideal situation for a documentary filmmaker. It allowed me to look beyond myself, forget my own feelings and focus entirely on the dramas in other people's lives. Even today I find it liberating to follow stories that have nothing to do with my own background. It helps me to put my own little world into perspective and not take it or myself too seriously.
The moment I touched Afghanistan I was totally blown away with a sense of extreme culture clash. On one side I was overwhelmed by the amazing hospitality of my Afghan companions and their determination to fight the Russian invaders. But I also struggled with their total lack of rationality. Ending up in the minefield captured in the above video clip was a typical example.
I joined a group of Mujahedins who organised an attack against a Russian camp. I thought, since they had already been at war for six years, then they must know what they were doing. Shockingly, they didn't even do a recognisance mission. They could see that they were walking through a mine field but they didn't care and continued forward until one of them blew up. Then they panicked and stopped the attack. The badly insured Mujahedin died a few hours later. Everybody was sad for a few days but they didn't learn any lessons. Their next operation was suicidal too. Their belief of dying as martyrs was enough to keep them going.
With my Western mindset I never managed to accept the fatalistic attitude of the Afghans but clearly it makes them fearless. Even today, nothing has changed. Many Afghans - certainly in the Pashtun areas - continue to hate and fight any and all occupying foreign forces: whether they are Russians, Americans or whoever. It doesn't make a difference. Fighting invaders is part of the Afghan culture and a way of life.
It's easy to say: Let the Afghans run their own show. But a regime under Taliban control inevitably will violate many fundamental human rights - particularly when it comes to women. Should we care or not? I don't think there are simple solutions. In theory, the international community has an obligation to defend the respect o
