Local residents tell NTD reporter they feel helpless against these ongoing demolitions by local authorities. This is the third fatal incident for this month. On Tuesday, two people were killed in a forced house demolition to a pig farm. This happened in Saertu district in the city of Daqing in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province. One of the deceased is the house owner, Li Baolin. The other is the demolisher who was using an excavator. According to a neighbor, Li's wife ran out of the house after the excavator destroyed part of a wall. She knelt on the ground and begged the demolisher to give her two more days to move out. But, the demolisher didn't stop—saying the city management department asked him to do so and so he must do it. Then Li came out and physically tried to stop the demolition. The excavator's bucket struck his back and crushed him against the excavator's body. The driver of the excavator then stuck his head out of the window to check—without stopping the machine. His head and right arm were caught between the moving arm and the body of the bulldozer. Both men were killed. NTD reporter called the local community office but the officer refused to give any details. [Officer, Saertu District Neighborhood Office]: "I have no comment on this (demolition event). You just wait for our managers to come back." Another officer from Daqing City Management Department also offers no details. [Officer of Daqing City Management Department]: "As long as City Management gets more details or new information, we will ask media to report on it." Daqing city government described the latest incident as a general production safety accident—due to the excavator driver's error. Local residents told NTD reporter they feel helpless against these forced demolitions. Several deaths from forced house demolitions had happened. Earlier this month, two house owners committed suicide in Guangzhou and Hunan Provinces.- published: 23 May 2012

Floods in Northeast China kill 25
Floods triggered by heavy rains have killed 25 people, damaged houses and disrupted traffic in north-eastern China, state media reported on Saturday (August 17). Fire-fighters and soldiers were dispatched to evacuate local residents trapped in their flooded houses in Jilin province, state broadcaster CCTV reported. In neighbouring Heilongjiang province, floods killed 11 people with three still missing since last Saturday (August 10), and water levels have risen to dangerous level in three rivers, state-run Xinhua news agency reported. CCTV carried footage shot on Friday (August 16) showing soldiers placing sand bags to strengthen a river bank. In Liaoning province, rainfall has hit the city of Shenyang since early Friday, leaving roads flooded and disrupting traffic, CCTV said. CCTV's footage on Friday showed cars stranded at low-lying road sections and people walking in flood water. More than a hundred reservoirs discharged water after the heavy rain from Thursday (August 15) to Saturday, Xinhua said. Rainfall is expected to ease in the next three days, CCTV reported, citing the Central Meteorological Station.- published: 17 Aug 2013
