U-49 may refer to one of the following German submarines:
- During the First World War, Germany also had these submarines with similar names:
- SM UB-49, a Type UB III submarine launched in 1917 and surrendered 16 January 1919; broken up at Swansea in 1922
- SM UC-49, a Type UC II submarine launched in 1916 and sunk on 8 August 1918
- SM UB-49, a Type UB III submarine launched in 1917 and surrendered 16 January 1919; broken up at Swansea in 1922
- SM UC-49, a Type UC II submarine launched in 1916 and sunk on 8 August 1918

German submarine U-49 (1939)
German submarine U-49 was a Type VIIB U-boat of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine during World War II. She was ordered on 21 November 1936 and laid down on 15 September 1938 at the yards of Friedrich Krupp Germaniawerft AG in Kiel as yard number 584. Launched on 24 June 1939, she was commissioned on 12 August and assigned to the 7th U-Boat Flotilla under the command of Kurt von Goßler.
Design
German Type VIIB submarines were preceded by the shorter Type VIIA submarines. U-49 had a displacement of 753 tonnes (741 long tons) when at the surface and 857 tonnes (843 long tons) while submerged. She had a total length of 66.50 m (218 ft 2 in), a pressure hull length of 48.80 m (160 ft 1 in), a beam of 6.20 m (20 ft 4 in), a height of 9.50 m (31 ft 2 in), and a draught of 4.74 m (15 ft 7 in). The submarine was powered by two Germaniawerft F46 four-stroke, six-cylinder supercharged diesel engines producing a total of 2,800 to 3,200 metric horsepower (2,060 to 2,350 kW; 2,760 to 3,160 shp) for use while surfaced, two BBC GG UB 720/8 double-acting electric motors producing a total of 750 metric horsepower (550 kW; 740 shp) for use while submerged. She had two shafts and two 1.23 m (4 ft) propellers. The boat was capable of operating at depths of up to 230 metres (750 ft).

The U-boat is one of only four German World War II submarines in preserved condition remaining in the world. During World War II, 62 German submarines - nicknamed “the grey wolves” - travelled the seas, relentlessly attacking Allied supply ships. All were found but one. Could this be the wreck of the long lost U-455, the last missing German U-boat ?
Unearthing the identity of the ship is no easy task for our team of divers. At 120 metres below the surface of the water, expeditions are extremely dangerous.
Based on archive footage and interviews with historians and two members of the U455 crew, the film will retrace the incredible story of the German warship that fought every marine battle against the Allies, from the Baltic Sea, to the Atlantic and then finally the Mediterranean where it now rests.

German submarine U-843 was a Type IXC/40 U-boat of the German Kriegsmarine during World War II. The submarine was laid down on 21 April 1942 at the DeSchiMAG AG Weser yard in Bremen, launched on 15 December 1942, and commissioned on 24 March 1943 under the command of Kapitänleutnant Oskar Herwartz. After training with 4th U-boat Flotilla in the Baltic Sea, U-843 was transferred to 2nd U-boat Flotilla on 1 November 1943 for front-line service, and was transferred to 33rd U-boat Flotilla on 1 October 1944. She carried out three war patrols, sinking one ship, and was sunk by a British aircraft on 9 April 1945.

U-534 was salvaged in 1993 and since February 2009 has been on display in Birkenhead, England as part of the U-boat Story. The U-boat is one of only four German World War II submarines in preserved condition remaining in the world. A Royal Air Force bomber sank her on 5 May 1945 in the Kattegat 20 kilometers northeast of the Danish island of Anholt.

Video description: During World war 2, Submarines are very valuable attack vehicles. They were basically surface ships that could sail underwater for a brief time. Apart from armament and other advanced features let’s see which submarine class can dive deep enough into the sea. This video presents the top 10 deepest diving submarines of WW2 by class. This list is probably based on test depth which is the maximum depth at which a submarine is permitted to operate under normal peacetime circumstances.
