The Florida House of Representatives is the lower house of the Florida Legislature, the state legislature of the US state of Florida. The House is composed of 120 members representing an equal number of districts, with each district having an average population of 156,677.

The House convenes at the State Capitol in Tallahassee. Representatives serve two-year terms, and are restricted by term limits, confining them to four two-year terms (eight years).

Representatives are elected to two-year terms during even-numbered years. A representative must be at least 21 years of age, a resident of the district in which he or she will serve, and a resident of Florida for at least two years before being qualified to run for election. Once elected, representatives are limited to four consecutive terms but can run again after sitting out one election.

The entire Florida Legislature meets every year in a session beginning on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in March and lasting 50 calendar days. Special sessions may be called either by the Governor or by the leaders of both chambers acting jointly. The Speaker of the House is elected by the representatives for a two-year term. The Speaker has the power to preside over the chamber during a session, to appoint committee members and chairs of committees, to influence the placement of bills on the calendar, and to rule on procedural motions. The Speaker pro tempore presides if the Speaker leaves the Chair or if there is a vacancy.

Florida (ⁱ/ˈflɒrɪdə/) is a state in the southeastern United States, bordered to the west by the Gulf of Mexico, to the north by Alabama and Georgia and to the east by the Atlantic Ocean. Florida is the 22nd most extensive, the 4th most populous, and the 8th most densely populated of the 50 United States. Florida has the longest coastline in the contiguous United States, encompassing approximately 1,350 miles (2,170 km), and is the only state to border both the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. Much of the state is at or near sea level and its terrain is characterized by sedimentary soils. The climate varies from subtropical in the north to tropical in the south. Its symbolic animals like the American alligator, Florida panther and the manatee, can be found in the Everglades, one of the most famous national parks in the world.

Under apartheid, the House of Representatives was the house for South Africa's mixed race 'Coloured' community, in the Tricameral Parliament of 1984 to 1994.

Alan John Williams (born 14 October 1930) is a British Labour Party politician, who was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Swansea West from 1964 to 2010.

Williams was educated at Cardiff High School for Boys (a state grammar school) then Cardiff College of Technology and Commerce when he gained a BSc in economics in 1954 (awarded by the University of London). At University College, Oxford he studied PPE. He became an economics lecturer at the Welsh College of Advanced Technology then a broadcaster and journalist.

He contested Poole in 1959.

Williams served under Harold Wilson as Under-Secretary of State for Economic Affairs from 1967 until 1969 and then as a Parliamentary Secretary at the Ministry of Technology until 1970 when Labour lost power. When Labour were returned to power at the February 1974 general election, Williams was made Minister of State at the Department of Prices and Consumer Protection, serving until Wilson left office in 1976. The new Prime Minister, James Callaghan, then appointed him as Minister of State at the Department of Industry in which post he served until Labour lost power to the Conservatives under Margaret Thatcher in the 1979 general election.

Ari Abraham Porth (September 25, 1970, Washington, D.C.) is a prosecutor, attorney and a Democratic Party representative in the Florida House of Representatives. Porth serves District 96, which represents parts of Coral Springs, Tamarac, Lauderhill, Sunrise, and North Lauderdale in Broward County, Florida.

After attending public schools in both Florida and Michigan, Porth graduated from Northeastern University and went to work for Senator Bob Graham as a legislative aide in Washington, D.C. While working for the Senator, he focused on issues related to veterans, the war on drugs and AIDS.

Porth moved back home to South Florida where he received his law degree from Nova Southeastern University and since 1995, has served as an Assistant State Attorney for Broward County where he tries juveniles and adults for crimes against property and person. Porth currently heads the Truancy Division, working to improve school attendance in partnership with law enforcement, schools, children, parents, and the courts.
