Watford 4-0 Blackburn Rovers The Championship 2012/13
Troy Deeney's double helped Watford to a comfortable win over struggling Blackburn as Gianfranco Zola's men closed to within four points of Hull in the race for automatic promotion. The striker scored his 17th and 18th goals of the campaign within the space of nine second-half minutes while Almen Abdi and Matthew Briggs added further goals as the Hornets recorded a first win in four attempts, and consigned Rovers - who had Leon Best sent-off in stoppage-time - to a fifth consecutive away league defeat.- published: 29 Jul 2013

Manchester City vs Watford 4-2, FA Cup Fourth Round 2013-14 highlights
Sergio Aguero was the hero for Manchester City as his second-half hat-trick helped Manuel Pellegrini's men avoid an FA Cup upset against Watford. The Championship side had deservedly taken a two-goal lead into the break through Fernando Forestieri and Troy Deeney. But City came out all guns blazing in the second half to earn what at one stage appeared an unlikely victory -- with Aguero the catalyst for the comeback. The Argentinian volleyed home the first from close range, before levelling matters on 78 with a sweetly-struck left-foot effort from the edge of the area. With just three minutes remaining, Watford goalkeeper Jonathan Bond spilled Aleksandar Kolarov's low shot from range and Aguero completed the comeback, and his treble, in added time. Watford deserve a great deal of credit for their performance, particularly in the first half, but an Aguero-inspired City move into Round Five and are still in the hunt in four separate competitions. The Hornets started the tie brightly, as Deeney and Cristian Battocchio both fired efforts just over the top of Costel Pantilimon's bar in the opening four minutes. It took City a while to get going and their first sight at goal came from a Jesus Navas corner. The ball found its way to the back post but Joleon Lescott could only blaze over from just a few yards out. However, this chance failed to lift a sluggish City from their slumber and it was no surprise when Watford took the lead on 21 minutes. Gabriele Angella found Deeney from the right and a weighted flick from the skipper played in Forestieri, who was bursting through. The Italian took the ball in his stride and coolly beat Pantilimon with a low shot into the far corner. And things got even better for the visitors just before the 30-minute mark as Deeney deservedly doubled their advantage. A poor pass from Martin Demichelis was pounced upon by Sean Murray, who linked up with Ikechi Anya to set up a counter-attack. Anya fed Deeney and the big No9 did the rest, calmly slipping the ball underneath Pantilimon at the near post to send the travelling fans into dreamland. Seeing the need to shore up his backline, Manuel Pellegrini made two changes at the break. Pablo Zabaleta replaced Micah Richards at right-back while club captain Vincent Kompany came on for Jack Rodwell, with Demichelis moving into midfield. The hosts improved in the second half and took the game to Watford straight from the restart. Edin Dzeko found himself with a yard of space inside the box but got the ball stuck under his feet and failed to trouble Bond. The tide was turning, though, and City gradually increased the pressure on their Championship opponents - substitute Stevan Jovetic, on for Marcos Lopes, couldn't quite connect with Zabaleta's cross as Pellegrini's men sought a route back into the contest. The pressure eventually told, though, as Aguero smashed home Kolarov's ball from the left on 59 minutes. This goal gave City the impetus and they set about finding an equaliser, with Dzeko again unable to find a way past Bond with a low shot. Watford were required to defend stoutly for the remainder of the game, with Deeney their sole outlet upfront. But the free-scoring Premier League side levelled matters with just 12 minutes remaining as Aguero curled home a wonderful left-foot effort from the edge of the box. With a replay looking likely, Kolarov tried his luck from distance with just three minutes left on the clock and the ball squirmed through Bond's fingers and crept over the line to edge City ahead late on. And Aguero completed the comeback two minutes into added time, tapping home a deep cross at the back post.- published: 26 Jan 2014

We started at Croxley green. Which is no more than just stairs and track. Then moved on to Watford west. The finally came to Watford stadium, until we came across an active line. In July 1860 Lord Ebury obtained powers to construct a 4.5 mile single track line between Watford and Rickmansworth which opened in October 1862. The Rickmansworth terminus was located opposite the church to the south of the town where interchange sidings were provided with the nearby Grand Union Canal. The line had two other stations at Watford Junction and Watford High Street and its depot was situated on Wiggenhall Road in Watford. A further Parliamentary authorisation was obtained a year later to construct an extension from Rickmansworth to Uxbridge to connect with the Great Western Railway's Uxbridge branch, but this was never realised. Despite hopes that the railway would bring further economic development to Rickmansworth and would serve the small factories and warehouses which had developed along the Grand Union Canal, it was Watford which actually grew at a faster pace and drew business from Rickmansworth. The construction of the railway was dogged with financial problems and a further Act of Parliament had to be passed in 1863 to authorise the issue of further shares to the value of £30,000 (£40,000 worth of shares had already been issued) The initial daily service consisted of five trains each way from Rickmansworth to Watford. The line was worked from the outset by the London and North Western Railway (LNWR) who paid the WRR 50% of the gross earnings of the line. The railway was never particularly financially successful and the Official Receiver was called in only four years after opening. Attempts had been made to remedy their financial problems by opening several freight branches, the most notable being to the Croxley printers and to the Grand Union Canal at Croxley Green. The company was eventually absorbed in 1881 by the burgeoning LNWR whose station it shared at Watford Junction. Farting Cactus 2013- published: 28 Jul 2013
