Entertainment and Sports Programming Network, commonly known as ESPN, is an American global cable television network focusing on sports-related programming including live and pre-taped event telecasts, sports talk shows, and other original programming.
Founded by Bill Rasmussen, his son Scott Rasmussen and Aetna insurance agent Ed Eagan, it launched on September 7, 1979, under the direction of Chet Simmons, the network's President and CEO (and later the United States Football League's first commissioner). The Getty Oil Company provided funding to begin the new venture via executive Stuart Evey. John Skipper is ESPN's current president, a position he has held since January 1, 2012.
ESPN's signature telecast, SportsCenter, debuted with the network and aired its 30,000th episode on February 11, 2007. ESPN broadcasts primarily from its studios in Bristol, Connecticut. The network also operates offices in Miami; New York City; Seattle; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Los Angeles. The Los Angeles office, from which the late-night edition of SportsCenter is now broadcast, opened at L.A. Live in early 2009.
Roger Federer (German pronunciation: [ˈfeːdəʁɐ]) (born 8 August 1981) is a Swiss professional tennis player who held the ATP No. 1 position for a record 237 consecutive weeks from 2 February 2004 to 18 August 2008. Federer has occupied the #1 ranking for 285 overall weeks, one week short of the record 286 weeks held by Pete Sampras. As of 28 May 2012, he is ranked World No. 3. Federer has won a men's record 16 Grand Slam singles titles. He is one of seven male players to capture the career Grand Slam and one of three (with Andre Agassi and Rafael Nadal) to do so on three different surfaces (clay, grass, and hard courts). He is the only male player in tennis history to have reached the title match of each Grand Slam tournament at least five times and also the final at each of the nine ATP Masters 1000 Tournaments. Many sports analysts, tennis critics, and former and current players consider Federer to be the greatest tennis player of all time.
Federer has appeared in an unprecedented 23 career Grand Slam tournament finals, including a men's record ten in a row, and appeared in 18 of 19 finals from the 2005 Wimbledon Championships through the 2010 Australian Open, the lone exception being the 2008 Australian Open. He holds the record of reaching the semifinals or better of 23 consecutive Grand Slam tournaments over five and a half years, from the 2004 Wimbledon Championships through the 2010 Australian Open. At the 2012 Australian Open, he reached a record 31st consecutive Grand Slam quarterfinal. During the course of his run at the 2012 French Open in Roland Garros, Federer eclipsed Jimmy Connors long standing record of 233 match wins in Grand Slam tournaments when he defeated Adrian Ungur in a second round match.
Richard Dominick Incognito, Jr. (born July 5, 1983 in Englewood, New Jersey is an American football guard for the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League. He was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft.[citation needed] He played college football at Nebraska.[citation needed]
Incognito has also played for the Buffalo Bills.[citation needed]
Incognito played offense and defense at Mountain Ridge High School in Glendale, Arizona, and served as a deep snapper, helping the team to an 8-4 record and the first round of the state playoffs in 2000. An All-America offensive lineman, Incognito was named to PrepStar’s 120-man Dream Team. He was a second-team honoree on the Long Beach Press-Telegram’s Best in the West list. Incognito was a finalist for the Arizona Player-of-the-Year Award, was named the Brian Murray Award winner, and earned the Frank Kush Award, given to the best offensive lineman in Arizona. He also earned First-team All-State honors on offense from the Arizona Republic.
Desmond Demond "Dez" Bryant (born November 4, 1988) is an American football wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Cowboys in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He played college football at Oklahoma State.
Bryant was born in Lufkin, Texas. He attended Lufkin High School. As a senior he was a member of the Texas Football Super Team first-team and was an All-state selection after recording 53 receptions for 1,207 yards with 21 touchdowns.
Regarded as a four-star recruit by Rivals.com, Bryant was listed as the No. 9 wide receiver prospect in the class of 2007.
Bryant chose to play college football at Oklahoma State over LSU, Nebraska, and Arkansas.
As a freshman in 2007 he finished second on the team with 43 receptions for 622 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games. In a game against Kansas he set an OSU record for receiving yards in a game by a freshman with 155. Bryant had a great performance in the 2007 Insight Bowl, recording nine receptions for 117 yards and two touchdowns in a 49-33 win against the Indiana Hoosiers.
Russell Wilson (born November 29, 1988) is an American football quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League. Wilson played for the University of Wisconsin, where he led the Wisconsin Badgers to the 2012 Rose Bowl and a Big Ten Title. Prior to his time at Wisconsin, Wilson played for the North Carolina State Wolfpack football and baseball teams. In 2008, Wilson was named the ACC Rookie of the Year in football and became the first ever freshman quarterback named First-team All-ACC. The Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball selected Wilson in the 2010 draft with the 140th pick. He played second base for the Asheville Tourists, the Rockies' Class A affiliate of the South Atlantic League in the summer of 2011. On April 27, 2012 he was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks with the 75th pick of the 2012 NFL Draft.
Wilson attended the Collegiate School, a preparatory school in Richmond, Virginia, US. As a junior there in 2005, he threw for 3,287 yards and 40 touchdowns. He also rushed for 634 yards and 15 touchdowns. He was named an all-district, all-region, and all-state player. Wilson was twice named the Richmond Times-Dispatch Player of the Year.
