The A54 road is a road in England linking Chester in Cheshire with Buxton in Derbyshire. Its route through both urban and steep rural areas presents a challenge to Cheshire County Council in maintaining the safety of the road.
Re-routing of the A54 away from the narrow cobbled streets of Congleton town centre was first proposed in 1935. Prior to this, at the point where the A34 now converges with the A54 an unusual 28 ft (8.5 m) lighthouse was erected in 1924 bearing the words "Dangerous hill - change to low gear", backlit at night, to reduce accidents at the sharp bend.
According to a 2007 report by the Road Safety Foundation for the European Road Assessment Programme (EuroRAP), the A54 is one of the most dangerous roads in the UK, second only to the A682 in Lancashire.
Again in 2008 the road was rated as one of the highest-risk roads in Great Britain by EuroRAP, with a risk rating of Medium to High on its most dangerous stretch between Buxton and Congleton. Eighteen fatal or serious-injury accidents occurred on this 24-kilometre (15 mi) stretch of single-carriageway road between 2003 and 2005, 26% of which were accidents at junctions.

The Peak District is an upland area in England, most of which lies in northern Derbyshire but also includes parts of Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Staffordshire and Yorkshire.
An area of great diversity, it is split into the northern Dark Peak, where most of the moorland is found and whose geology is gritstone, and the southern White Peak, where most of the population lives and whose geology is mainly limestone.
The Peak District National Park became the first national park in the United Kingdom in 1951. With its proximity to the cities of Manchester and Sheffield and easy access by road and rail, it attracts millions of visitors every year.
The Peak District forms the southern end of the Pennines and much of the area is uplands above 1,000 feet (300 m), with a high point on Kinder Scout of 2,087 feet (636 m). Despite its name, the landscape generally lacks sharp peaks, being characterised by rounded hills and gritstone escarpments (the "edges"). The area is surrounded by major conurbations, including Huddersfield, Manchester, Sheffield, Derby and Stoke-on-Trent.

A trip along the famous A537 and A54 Cat and Fiddle Road between Macclesfield and Buxton. The road is known for its frequent tight corners as it makes its way through some spectacular moorland scenery in the Cheshire and Derbyshire Peak District. At the road's highest point at 515m (1,690ft) stands the 2nd highest pub in England, the Cat and Fiddle. The tight bends and steep drops have, however, led to a number of accidents - and the road usually features in official statistics in the top 5 most dangerous roads in the UK. This video is just a bit of fun, if you do watch it at fullscreen then it may send your brain a bit funny due to the sheer speed of travel. 678mph is the average speed, at times it will be a lot faster of course. How have I worked out the speed?... Average Speed = Distance / Time So thats 60.3Miles / 5m 20s (the actual playing part of the drive)= 678.3750 mph This video was recorded on Friday 30th July 2010. The first frame was captured at 10:01am and the last image was captured at 2:24pm. There were three breaks in the journey, the first at Leek, the second at Maccesfield and the third at Stockport. Because of the very high speed of this timelapse video, the timecodes I have provided are only accurate to a second. Seeing as the video is being played at 25 frames per second, the dista...
