This film shows how Uruguayan people responded to Korean contemporary performance of Bereishit Dance. these interviews were taken with Uruguayan audiences during the interval of the performance at Solis theater. Gratefully, Uruguayan people allowed me to know about their honest feeling and impression of Korean dancing and how the performance moved their mind so clearly. Ivan Solarich, uruguayan recognizable actor who was impressed by this performance in Korea and finally invited the dance team to Uruguay for FIDAE festival, constantly was speaking higly of their performance that evening. Park Soon-ho, the choreographer of the performance,is one of the more acclaimed Korean creators, both nationally and internationally. Jose Mujica, Uruguay's president, had already made one trip to Montevideo's Carrasco International Airport, along with hundreds of other Uruguayans, with the intent of greeting Suarez and his family. But as the hours passed with no sign of Suarez's charter flight, the 79-year-old Mujica left the premises, only to return when the plane finally did land in the capital about 5:30 a.m. "We gave him a humble hug on behalf of the Uruguayan people and invited him to continue living, learning and fighting," Mujica said on Uruguayan radio later in the day, speaking of himself in the first person plural. "At 5:30, we were there with his family, greeting him on a cold morning, but all of us with warm hearts, united as a society. "Actually, more than going for ourselves, it was an attempt to symbolize the affection of the Uruguayan people, who, in these circumstances, do not judge, rather demonstrate affection, because everything else is the equivalent of hitting him while he's down. The Suarez case is perceived differently in his home country than in much of the world. That alternative view is a reflection of the people's elemental connection with soccer, which has brought the nation two World Cup titles and raised its international profile. It also reflects Uruguayans' deeper understanding of Suarez's life story and rise from modest beginnings.

Football fans in Uruguay defend Luis Suarez's antics after the football star appeared to bite an opponent in a World Cup game against Italy Uruguay's Luis Suarez could be banned from the World Cup for the second successive tournament after appeared to bite Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini on the shoulder during the South Americans' 1-0 win on Tuesday. Fifa is investigating the incident which has become a worldwide talking point, and Suarez, twice previously banned for biting, looks likely to be hit with another lengthy suspension despite escaping punishment during the match. Suarez and Chiellini clashed in the Italian penalty area 10 minutes from the end of the match which sealed Uruguay's progression and Italy's elimination from the tournament. Fifa charged Suarez for biting Italy defender Chiellini and said early on Wednesday that its disciplinary committee had opened proceedings against the forward. If the panel finds Suarez guilty of assaulting an opponent, Fifa rules call for a ban of at least two matches, up to a maximum of 24 months. Liverpool's Suarez was banned for 10 games last year after biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic in a Premier League match and in 2010 he was suspended for seven games for biting PSV Eindhoven's Otman Bakkal while playing for Ajax Amsterdam. BBC News Uruguay marijuana move ; illegal ; UN drugs watchdog

Uruguay's decision to legalise the production, sale and consumption of marijuana violates international law, the UN drugs watchdog says. The International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) warned that the move would endanger young people and "contribute to the earlier onset of addiction". The new law will allow registered Uruguayans over 18 to buy up to 40g (1.4oz) of the drug a month. The government hopes it will help tackle drug cartels. INCB chief Raymond Yans said he was "surprised" that the government in Montevideo had "knowingly decided to break the universally agreed and internationally endorsed treaty".In a statement, Mr Yans said claims the law would help reduce crime relied on "rather precarious and unsubstantiated assumptions". The INCB is an independent body of experts established by the United Nations to monitor countries' compliance with international drug treaties. After nearly 12 hours of debate on Tuesday, senators gave the government-sponsored bill their final approval, making Uruguay the first country in the world to legalise the production and sale of marijuana. Dozens of supporters of the bill proposed by the left-wing President Jose Mujica gathered outside the Congress in Montevideo to follow the vote. Presenting the bill to fellow senators, Roberto Conde said it was an unavoidable response to reality, given that the "war" against drugs had failed. "We have the duty as the state to give a specific answer to an open territory, small and non-producing," Mr Conde said, adding that Uruguay's borders were used by cartels to smuggle drugs into neighbouring countries. But many senators also spoke out against the bill, before it was passed by 16 votes to 13. Opposition lawmaker Alfredo Solari said Uruguay should not "experiment" on its people. Debate continues The project had already been approved by Uruguay's lower house in July.A Uruguayan woman on the government's plans: "This president is doing what needs to be done" The historic approval comes amid growing debate over drug legalisation in Latin America. A group of former presidents and influential social figures, including Brazil's Fernando Henrique Cardoso, Mexico's Ernesto Zedillo and Colombian ex-leader Cesar Gaviria, have called for marijuana to be legalised and regulated. But President Mujica recently asked during an interview why the former leaders only spoke out about the legalisation of marijuana after they had left office.

Earlier this week, Uruguay became the first country in the world to legalize both the sale and production of marijuana. INCB chief Raymond Yans has slammed the "surprising" move, accusing the South American state of legalizing the drug without first discussing it with the UN organization. Uruguay's president, Jose Mujica, rejected the criticism on Friday, saying that he's ready to discuss the law with anyone. "Tell that old man to stop lying," Mujica said in an interview with Uruguay's Canal 4. "Let him come to Uruguay and meet me whenever he wishes... Anybody can meet and talk to me, and whoever says he couldn't meet with me tells lies, blatant lies." "Because he sits in a comfortable international platform, he believes he can say whatever nonsense," he added. (AFP Photo / Pablo Porciuncula) Yans has accused Uruguay of "pirate attitudes" for knowingly violating the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, which the South American country is part of. But Mujica reminded that Yans did not say a word about the US states of Colorado and Washington, which also legalized marijuana. "Does he have different rules: one for Uruguay and other for the world's strong countries?" he asked. First lady Lucia Topolansky, a member of the Uruguayan Senate, has fully backed her husband on the issue. "Who is this fellow who likes to call names to countries?" she said of Yans. "I think he's crossed the line, but anyhow I believe that he has had problems with other countries, Sweden, Denmark, Holland and they will be meeting him sometime in March." "But to be honest, marijuana is not the heart of life or earthly issues," Topolansky added. The law, which allows for a government-controlled marijuana market, was passed by the Uruguayan Senate on Monday. According to the legislation, those wishing to smoke cannabis recreationally need to register with the authorities and limit their consumption to 40 grams per month. President Mujica and his supporters argue that regulating marijuana consumption and production will remove profits from criminals and allow less money to be spent on soldiers and police, who are ultimately unable to prevent Uruguayan citizens from using the drug.
