This year’s duck adventure compared to last year is living hell for me, I hate carrying a gun around all the time plus I don’t get to actually enjoy the ducks all I’m doing is protecting them from the wrath of mother nature. The ducks seems to go into hyper drive half way up the creek going to the lake, this just started the last 4 or 5 days ago from what I can remember I’ve never seen the ducks so excited to go to the lake. The ducks are going further and further down the shore of the lake, they must have completely destroyed the mouth of the creek and there is nothing left there for them. I forget who asked for this but I filmed the chickens in the yard today while the ducks were at the lake, pretty much they do nothing except eat and free range around the lawn with the Muscovy ducks. 5;45 and still no sign of the ducks coming home from the lake, I got ready to go down to give them an armed escort home and Dug got really excited with his head up in the air smelling, something is down in the swamp tonight. Well I’m going down to escort the ducks home so if there is anything they are going to have to go through Dug and I first before they can get to the ducks. I turned off the Pivotheads while I was waiting in the swamp for the ducks to start up the creek and less than 5 minutes after turning them off and standing in the swamp with Dug waiting for the ducks a Coyote stuck his head out of the bulrushes right where the ducks always freak out going out in the morning. I got a shot off at him and I’m blown away I didn’t vaporize him, I saw the shot gun 12 gauge OO Buck pellets hit below and above him in the creek while he was in mid air jumping the creek, what are the chances of that right when I turned off the camera. Dug went pretty well nuts once he got the scent of the coyote I’m pretty sure it was a coyote he was grey not red like all the foxes I see here on the property. It was raining, cold, and dark and now I have to get the rest of the ducks off the lake and make sure the coyote doesn’t get anymore tonight. I lost a ton of footage because the Pivothead battery keep dying, so much footage lost of an adrenaline pumped cold stressful night. I tried to get the remaining ducks back from the lake but they were totally freaked out and wouldn’t come up the creek with me in the canoe, when Dug and I were down there Dug out of the blue went nuts and headed back to the property, the coyote was back in the yard while Dug and I were at the lake. I could hear the ducks in the pen freaking out, luckily I had the pen locked up and the electric fence on. About 20 minutes later in the dark the remaining ducks ran the gauntlet home and where back in the yard, I got all the ducks locked up in the pen and went down to the creek to put the canoe away. While Dug and I were down there 4 more coyotes came into the yard, all I could see was the silhouettes in the yard, Dug lost it and ran full speed up to the yard, the coyotes took off into the swamp before Dug made it to the yard.
