Monkey Meat and the Ebola Outbreak in Liberia
Subscribe to VICE News here: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE-News West Africa is being plagued by a new outbreak of Ebola — a terrifying disease that causes its victims to bleed to death from the inside out. Ebola has no cure, and the latest epidemic is spreading fast. VICE News visited Liberia, where many feel the new outbreak began, borne from the bushmeat markets of Lofa. Western scientists feel that the consumption and preparation of meat from monkeys, fruit bats, and other forest animals is behind the transmission of Ebola, and possibly a new supervirus, which if left uncontrolled could kill a third of the world's population. An American doctor who has been working in Liberia since October 2013 for the North Carolina-based aid organization Samaritan's Purse is now receiving intensive medical treatment after he was infected with Ebola, according to a spokeswoman for the organization. A government official in Liberia said Sunday that one of that country's highest-profile doctors has died in what the World Health Organization (WHO) says is the largest recorded outbreak of the disease. Melissa Strickland said Dr. Kent Brantly, 33, was in stable condition, talking with his doctors and working on his computer while being treated. She cautioned that he is "not out of the woods yet." Strickland said patients have a better chance of survival if they receive treatment immediately after being infected, as Brantly did. Brantly, who is married with two children and is medical director for the Samaritan's Purse Ebola Consolidated Case Management Center in Monrovia, is being treated at a Samaritan's Purse isolation center at ELWA Hospital, according to Strickland. An Ebola outbreak in the West African nations of Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, the largest recorded epidemic of the disease, has caused more than 670 deaths and more than 1,000 infections, according to the WHO. Ebola is a severe, often fatal illness with a fatality rate of up to 90% and is one of the world's most virulent diseases, according to the WHO. It is transmitted by direct contact with the blood, body fluids and tissues of infected animals or people. The first Liberian doctor to die of the disease was identifeid as Dr. Samuel Brisbane . He was working as a consultant with the internal medicine unit at the country's largest hospital, the John F. Kennedy Memorial Medical Center in Monrovia. Brisbane, who once was a medical adviser to former Liberian President Charles Taylor, was taken to a treatment center on the outskirts of the capital after falling ill with Ebola, and died there, said Tolbert Nyenswah, an assistant health minister. He said another doctor who had been working in Liberia's central Bong County also was being treated for Ebola at the same center where Brisbane died. The situation "is getting more and more scary," Nyenswah said. An Ugandan doctor working in Liberia, where an Ebola outbreak has killed 129 people, died earlier this month. The current outbreak has claimed the lives of 319 in Guinea and 224 in Sierra Leone. Last week, the medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders announced that the chief doctor leading the fight against the Ebola epidemic in Sierra Leone, Sheik Umar Khan, had contracted the disease. Three nurses who worked in the same Ebola treatment Center as Khan, 39, are believed to have died from the disease. On Friday, the WHO announced that it was opening a Sub-Regional Outbreak Coordination Centre in Conakry, Guinea, in response to the outbreak. The center will "consolidate and harmonize the technical support being provided to West African countries" hit by the disease and help mobilize resources for the response, the WHO said. hot news 247,Ebola virus,Ebola, virus,Zaire Ebolavirus,Ebola virus kills doctor, infects US doctor, ebola outbreak 2014,ebola in liberia, ebola 2014,ebola in town, ebola virus 2014,ebola virus outbreak, ebola virus video, ebola virus in liberia,Ebola virus US doctor,Liberian Doctor Dies of Ebola,US doctor infected,Liberia outbreak,Texas doctor,Ebola outbreak,Nigeria on high alert,Lagos airport, news, hot news, world news, cnn, cnn news, latest news. On Sunday Breitbart covered a report produced by the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency stating that an increasing number of people apprehended on the border are infected with the Ebola virus. “At least 71 individuals from the three nations affected by the current Ebola outbreak have either turned themselves in or been caught attempting to illegally enter the U.S. by U.S. authorities between January 2014 and July 2014,” Breitbart reported. The report also noted a significant number of illegal immigrants caught crossing the border are from Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia, countries where Islamic terrorists are active. Texas Governor Rick Perry underscored this potential threat when he told CNN some illegal immigrants coming across the border are from countries with substantial terrorist ties. The mention of possible terrorist infiltration and Ebola sets the stage for a scary prospect — a biological attack on America. For the government this represents an opportunity to expand a terror narrative that has dominated domestic and foreign policy for over a decade. Weaponized Ebola In 2013 Global Policy, a journal produced by the London School of Economics, warned about the prospect of Ebola being used as a terrorist weapon. “The increase in natural outbreaks in [Africa], coupled with a possibility of a terrorist group recruiting experts to acquire the virus and to prepare it to use as a bioweapon, should lead policymakers to consider the risk of a deliberate outbreak,” Amanda M. Teckman wrote for the journal. Despite repeated assurances that the Ebola virus cannot be transmitted via airborne particles, the CDC is concerned about that very outcome and has directed airline staff to take steps to prevent the spread of “infectious material through the air.” While Ebola is highly contagious, the risk of a full blown pandemic has been downplayed by health authorities because, according to our current understanding of the virus, Ebola, “is not airborne and is transmitted through contact with bodily fluids, including sweat and blood.” However, with concerns rising that the current strain of the virus, which is the worst in history and has killed 887 people, could in fact be airborne, the Centers For Disease Control has implemented steps to prevent its spread via international air travel. After Customs and Border Protection reported that its agents caught nearly 1,000 illegals from Ebola-struck countries this year, meaning many more have not been apprehended, the question remains whether President Barack Obama will secure the border and stop shipping illegals across the U.S. to prevent a major pandemic from killing Americans. ebola emergency virus outbreak "ebola virus" "ebola outbreak" control population challenge development africa liberia health "health insurance" healthcare illness healthy germs clean flu border charity "aid worker" "charity work" government fema u.s. usa america "united states" campaign hospital "donate blood" "healthcare work" 2014 2015 elite "new world order" humanity life logistics "elite nwo agenda" corruption george soros bioweapons lab obama executive order ron paul alex jones gerald celente rant coast to coast am louis farrakhan david icke georgia guidestones mh17 ww3 false flag exposed emory Ebola, an incurable disease which can kill up to 90% of those it affects, is spreading throughout West Africa, hitting the countries of Nigeria, Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone the hardest, and right now citizens from these countries are flooding across America’s wide open border, according to a secret CBP report obtained by Breitbart. What would a global pandemic look like for a disease that has no cure and that kills more than half of the people that it infects? Let’s hope that we don’t get to find out, but what we do know is that more than 100 health workers that were on the front lines of fighting this disease have ended up getting it themselves. The top health officials in the entire world are sounding the alarm and the phrase “out of control” is constantly being thrown around by professionals with decades of experience. So should average Americans be concerned about Ebola? If so, how bad could an Ebola outbreak in the U.S. potentially become? The following are 25 critical facts about this Ebola outbreak that every American needs to know… Despite the fact that doctors in Africa cannot keep Ebola from spreading, United States officials brought an affected patient into the country only days after President Obama signed an executive order mandating the detention of Americans who show signs of “respiratory illness.”- published: 05 Aug 2014

VOA news for Thursday, July 31st, 2014
Thanks to http://gandalf.ddo.jp/ for audio and text Thursday, July 31st, 2014 From Washington, this is VOA news. Coming up, U.N. school in Gaza gets direct artillery hit. Concerns mounting about Ebola outbreak in West Africa. Hello everyone, I'm Steve Norman. The United Nations says all indicators are that Israeli artillery hit a U.N. school in northern Gaza Wednesday, killing at least 15 people who were sheltering there. Some of those were children. VOA's Margaret Besheer reports. U.N. Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson was emotional as he spoke about the attack which also injured more than 100 people. "Sometimes you run out of words." He said U.N. officials received the news of the attack with "shock and dismay.” The elementary school in Jabaliya is the fifth U.N. school sheltering Palestinian families to be attacked since hostilities began. "They were there under U.N. protection, under our protection, and after warnings from the Israeli Defense Forces who had numerous times been informed about the presence of over 3,000 civilians at this location.” Speaking in Costa Rica on Wednesday, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon strongly condemned the attack, saying "Nothing is more shameful than attacking sleeping children.” Margaret Besheer, VOA news, the United Nations. Israel says it was responding to mortar fire from near the school. It has consistently condemned Hamas for using civilians, including infants, as human shields by launching attacks from civilian areas. The White House condemned Wednesday's shelling but did not blame anyone for it. Israeli shells also killed 16 at a Gaza market. Two U.S. Peace Corps volunteers in Liberia have been isolated after suspected exposure to Ebola although neither one is showing symptoms of the deadly virus. As a precautionary measure, the U.S. Peace Corps is temporarily removing its volunteers from Liberia, as well as Sierra Leone and Guinea due to the increasing spread of the Ebola virus. In Sierra Leone, Anja Wolz of Doctors Without Borders, also known by its French acronym MSF, said her medical crew is confined to its field hospital as the disease spreads. "In a moment, as MSF only has capacity to work in the case management centers. We don't have a capacity to go outside. The situation is quite difficult. I would say we are on the top of an iceberg in a moment because a contact race isn't really functioning And this is 1 of the major issues that we have because to find the patients as soon as possible and to to encasements. And it's the basic for an Ebola outbreak.” The World Health Organization reports almost 700 people have died from Ebola in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone during the current outbreak. It began back in February. There is no vaccine nor cure for the disease. Russia banned imports of fresh produce from Poland Wednesday, a day after the European Union and the United States hit Moscow with tough new sanctions for its role in the Ukrainian crisis. Moscow also warned it could extend the import ban to the entire 28-member EU. Russian ban comes just 2 days after Poland demanded new Western sanctions to punish the Kremlin for supplying Ukrainian rebels with missiles that downed a Malaysian airliner on July the 17th. Earlier on Wednesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry called the EU-U.S. sanctions, which target Moscow's energy, defense, technology and finance sectors, destructive and shortsighted. Pakistan says it's repulsed an attack on a military outpost by Afghanistan-based militants, killing at least 7 attackers. That story now from Ayaz Gul. Pakistan's Foreign Ministry summoned a senior Afghan diplomat to lodge a strong protest about what it called "another attack launched by terrorists from across the Afghan border." It urged the Kabul government to take effective steps to stop what it said was the use of Afghan soil for repeated cross-border fire and physical aggression against Pakistan. The incident comes while Pakistani troops are conducting counterinsurgency operations in another border area farther south, the tribal region of North Waziristan. Afghanistan has long asserted that the area serves as a training and recruiting ground for the Afghan Taliban insurgency. Ayaz Gul, for VOA news, Islamabad. North Korea has fired 4 more short-range projectiles into the sea, the latest in a series of missile and artillery tests. The South Korean Defense Ministry says the North fired 2 Wednesday morning and 2 more later in the day from an area northeast of Pyongyang. The type of projectile used is not yet known. That's the latest world news from VOA.- published: 31 Jul 2014

Health officials say fear and mistrust of health workers in Sierra Leone, where many have more faith in traditional medicine, are hindering efforts to contain an Ebola outbreak that has killed more than 450 people in the country. In recent days crowds gathered outside clinics and hospitals to protest against what they see as a conspiracy, in some cases clashing with police as they threatened to burn down the buildings and remove the patients. Amadu Sisi, a senior doctor at King Harman hospital in the capital Freetown, from which the patient was taken, said on Saturday that police found her in the house of a healer. http://youtu.be/3Wy7aakEKMY http://www.undergroundworldnews.com Amadu Sisi, a senior doctor at King Harman hospital in the capital Freetown, from which the patient was taken, said on Saturday that police found her in the house of a healer. Her family refused to hand her over and a struggle ensued with police, who finally retrieved her and sent her to hospital, he said. "She died in the ambulance on the way to another hospital," Sisi said. And while the US public has been generally unaware of the severity of the breakout, this may soon change following news that a 33-year-old US doctor working for relief organization Samaritan's Purse in Liberia was the latest to test positive for the disease on Saturday. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-07... Ebola virus: Guinea shuts Liberia and Sierra Leone borders
Ebola virus: Guinea shuts Liberia and Sierra Leone borders Guinea has closed its borders with Liberia and Sierra Leone to contain the spread of Ebola, which has killed 959 people in the three countries. The latest outbreak is thought to have begun in Guinea, but Liberia and Sierra Leone are currently facing the highest frequency of new cases. The World Health Organization said on Friday the spread of the virus was a global health emergency. The Ebola virus is transmitted between humans through bodily fluids. Animals such as fruit bats carry the virus, which can be transmitted to humans through contact with blood or consumption of bushmeat. In recent weeks, countries around the world have advised their citizens not to travel to the affected countries. The infections have spread to Nigeria, which has recorded two deaths and several more cases. The total number of cases in the current outbreak stands at 1779, the World Health Organization said on Friday. The most recent figures from 5 and 6 August showed 68 new cases and 29 deaths. They included 26 new cases in Sierra Leone and 38 in Liberia, but no new cases in Guinea, where the outbreak began. Guinea said it was closing its borders in order to stop people from entering the country. "We have provisionally closed the frontier between Guinea and Sierra Leone because of all the news that we have received from there recently," Health Minister Remy Lamah told a news conference. He added that Guinea had also closed its border with Liberia. Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia have already declared varying levels of emergency over the spread of the virus. The most intense outbreak in Guinea was located in the region along the border with Liberia and Sierra Leone. The World Health Organization had said the worst affected area, which straddles the borders between the three countries, would be isolated and treated as a "unified zone".
