adidas Y-3 Spring/Summer 2012 Campaign
The new Y-3 Spring/Summer 2012 campaign by Collier Schorr takes its cue from the experimental city of Brasilia. Portraits are collaged with xeroxes of archival Brasilia, to suggest a delicate balance between the body and the many ways it is contained.
'The Precipice', Schorr's fictitious travelogue, leads us further into Brasilia's dramatic landscape of 20th century modernist architecture. In the campaign concrete structures that loom all around Brasilia read like excavated ruins from a future civilization.
Brasilia, 1960, was a city of uncertainty. A new social experience installed by a government anxious to establish its reputation as a democracy. At the heart of this planned utopia was the pursuit of newness. Collier Schorr's images for Y-3 are a meditation on the sense of otherness that evolves out of this progress, the unnerving bond between human beings and their environment.
In the accompanying mood film, the female narrator remarks "If it is a shore it has long ago been emptied of what lies past its edge.” She speaks to us of the warmth of surfaces, along with her fears and desires to connect with her surroundings; a yearning so real that the city appears no longer as just a collection of concrete buildings, tunnels and roadways, but a living body. 'The Precipice' is a film of layers: from the opening act that introduces us to a story-within-a story to the projected landscape planted both behind and directly over its actors. The film's soundtrack, itself a densely woven tapestry, is cobbled together from various sources; field recordings, old sci-fi films, and excerpts from The Disintegration Loops by William Basinski.
“I was inspired by the androgyny of Yohji Yamanoto’s designs to translate the clothing’s dualities onto screen and image. I was playing with a multitude of influences for the S/S 2012 campaign, inspired by the modernist literature and architecture that is in itself a fusion of political and architectural mantras, both dreamy and concrete.” Collier Schorr, January 201
The result is an over-arching communication campaign that translates into still images and a short mood film, followed by an updated brand website design, all released globally February 2012.

Videonovela - teaser
The villainess. The sensual woman. The mad one. The naïf. Between 2007 and 2008, I worked as a soap opera's scriptwriter for Portuguese television. "Videonovela" is the result of an attempt to dissect and disjoin the stage directions and dialogues of the screenplays I wrote during that period. Constituting a reflection about identity and feminine stereotypes in contemporary pop culture, "Videonovela" combines a self-referential mise en scène of scenes from real soap opera’s screenplays with the manipulation of broadcasted footage, and a sound counterpoint composed with fragments and quotations from modernist literature and cinema.

ST. HALLVARD: "HUNGER" (ENGLISH VERSION)
FOR THE MAN WHO KNOWS HUNGER
St.Hallvard is a Norwegian clothing brand created by two bartenders with a background in Oslo's rock-scene. The pique-shirts and jackets are made with a knowing nod to iconic British brands Fred Perry and Ben Sherman, brands that for more than half a century have been an important part of subcultures like mods and punk.
Adopting Oslo's coat of arms as their brand logo, St.Hallvard have marketed themselves as THE brand for Oslo's rock-scene, made for men who live a bit hard but always dress sharp.
How could we make a film for St.Hallvard that would both celebrate this hard living image and also be a punkesque love letter to Oslo? Who is the ultimate hard living character with an Oslo-identity?
The answer was the main character in Knut Hamsun's 1890 novel Hunger, a piece of early-modernist, anarchic literature which is dearly beloved by generations of Norwegian musicians and artists. When telling the story of Mr.Hunger we create a new mythology for St.Hallvard: They are and "always have been" the choice of dress for Oslo's anti-heroes.

‘Scattered all over the Zone’: Pynchon’s Nomadology
In Anti-Oedipus Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari ask, ‘Isn’t the destiny of American literature that of crossing limits and frontiers, causing deterritorialized flows of desire to circulate, but also always making these flows transport fascisizing, moralizing, Puritan and familialist territories?’ Nowhere are these twin poles more evident than in the fiction of Thomas Pynchon, whose works stage just such an encounter between a paranoiac, despotic territoriality and oppositional or nomadic individuals breaking for the periphery along various lines of flight.
In this paper I propose to sketch a schizoanalysis of Pynchon’s novel, Gravity’s Rainbow. In keeping with Deleuze’s most keen insights into the pre-subjective flows and intensities that underlie the world of representation and identity, in this novel both the monolithic structure of power and its schizoid escapees seem powered by inhuman forces and energies. Power in the novel is represented in the third person plural, as ‘Them’: its human agents appear to be no more than masks or simulacra behind which something inhuman is at work. More promisingly, perhaps, those on lines of flight away from Them find their identity splitting or fragmenting in rhizomatic relations with machines and rockets, being more accurately mapped by statistical distributions, particle fields and projectile physics, than by recognition in terms of stable identity.
Tracing the nomadic trajectory of the novel’s key figures in the Zone of post-war Europe, this paper aims to show the affinities between a Deleuzian quasi-logic of lines of flight and the textual economy of Pynchon’s novel.
