President Xi Jinping visits Chinese-owned Volvo car plant in Belgium - economy
China's President Xi Jinping ended his visit to Europe with a look round the Chinese-owned Volvo car factory in Ghent, Belgium, accompanied by the Belgian king and queen. China's biggest independent car company, Geely, bought Swedish-based Volvo from Ford nearly four years ago. Since then production at the Ghent facility has increased steadily and President Xi unveiled the 300,000th car made at the plant. Volvo's chairman Li Shufu said it is aiming for annual sales of 800,000 vehicles by 2020... The government of Prime Minister Elio di Rupo has to raise money to cut its debt below 100 percent of annual economic output, as agreed with the European Commission. The country's stake in France's biggest bank is worth around 6.3 billion-euros. It is a legacy of the bailout of Belgian financial group Fortis, which was taken over by BNP as part of a state-backed rescue. If it sold the shares now it would suffer a loss as they are trading at around 50 euros, below the 68 euro purchase price. That is despite a rebound in European bank stocks, in which BNP Paribas's shares have risen almost threefold from their 2011 lows. "At current market levels the loss for the Belgian state would be acceptable ... It is plausible that they are really looking for a way to sell this stake," said Yohan Salleron, fund manager at Mandarine Gestion, which owns BNP shares. "A logical outcome would be for BNP to buy back the shares ... That would be the best thing for the shareholders." The Belgian prime minister's office declined to comment and BNP Paribas declined to comment. Dr. Paul Craig Roberts: Fed Laundering Treasury Bonds in Belgium, Real GDP was Negative & More
http://usawatchdog.com/fed-laundering-treasury-purchases-in-belgium-to-disguise-whats-happening-paul-craig-roberts/ - On the steep drop in GDP growth of a paltry .1% in the first quarter, Dr. Paul Craig Roberts says, "What I find most amusing about this is they had to claim some real growth in the first quarter; so, they eked out .1%. Now we know they got that by rigging the inflation number they used to deflate the gross domestic product (GDP). The real GDP in the first quarter, properly deflated, was negative and probably also in the fourth quarter. Most likely, this coming quarter, they are not going to be able to hide the fact that it is negative. . . . I am convinced the first quarter was negative, and I don't see how it could possibly go positive in the second quarter." On Fed Head Janet Yellen's rosy outlook on the economy, Dr. Roberts, who holds a PhD in economics, debates, "I don't see how she can see that the economy is going to start growing. What is going to make it grow? Why should investors invest money when consumers don't have any money? There are not retail sales. I think it is just part of the rah, rah talk. Everywhere else in the world is going down the tube. So, what's going to push the American economy up?--Nothing that I know of." Subscribe : http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=arirang Title: President Park to focus on creative economy and finance in Europe President Park Geun-hye will embark on a week-long European tour on Saturday which will take her to France, Britain and Belgium. Our presidential office correspondent Eoh Jin-joo has more on the president's last overseas trip for this year. The focus of President Park's trip to Europe will be strengthening cooperation with European countries in the areas of the creative economy and finance. Korea sees Britain as having the most potential for cooperative projects, given its strong financial sector. Senior presidential secretary for economic affairs Cho Won-dong told reporters that a large number of MOUs are currently being discussed with Britain, including one on setting up a Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in Korea and another on cooperation between the financial watchdogs of the two nations. In addition, the Korea Development Bank and a British venture capital company are expected to sign an MOU during President Park's state visit to Britain, opening the doors for Korean venture firms to garner investment from that country. President Park also aims to pave the way for Korean companies seeking to participate in joint projects with France when entering third markets such as Africa and Russia. The presidential office of Cheong Wa Dae said that Korea and France will discuss ways to work together to lay a foundation for a creative economy in Korea based on the European country's advanced technology and cultural content. They will also discuss cooperation on a series of mega energy projects. During her eight-day trip to France, Britain and Belgium,, President Park is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with French President Francois Hollande, British Prime Minister David Cameron, Belgian Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo and the presidents of the EU Commission and European Council. She will also meet with Queen Elizabeth the Second and Belgium's King Philippe. "In addition to reprising her 'sales diplomacy' approach to her talks with European leaders, President Park is expected to engage in 'soft diplomacy' to connect with the European people. She will be attending Korean drama and film events during her trip and will tour a university in London. Eoh Jin-joo, Arirang News."- published: 01 Nov 2013
