Tripura achieves 94.65 percent literacy rate
Tripura achieves 94.65 percent literacy rate
Rigorous efforts of the Tripura government, led to much improvement in the literacy rate of the state. The state has now achieved 94.65 per cent literacy rate. Speaking at a function on the occasion of International Literacy Day, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said that the state had secured 12th position with 73.19 % in the 2001 census and elevated to the fourth position with 87.22 percent literacy rate in the 2011 census. He added that, census is conducted every ten years, but to determine if Tripura's literacy rate improved, a government survey was conducted by the eight district magistrates in August 2012. According to the survey, out of state's 37 lakh population, only 1.31 lakh, including those aged 50 and above, were illiterate. The survey shows that the state's literacy has now risen to 94.65 percent.- published: 09 Sep 2013

Literacy Rate for Ethnic Minority in Ratanakiri Improve to 58.28% in 2013
Organized by the Department of Education Youth and Sport through the support from NGO counterparts represented by Plan International Cambodia, the Sep. 6 celebration echoed the message from Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen to promote an additional of 50% literacy rate among adults by 2015. The report by Ratanakiri Department of Education Youth and Sport (DoEYS) indicates the province's latest literacy rate of 58.28% (approximately 180,604 population), compared to the national rate of 70.86%. "About 75% of our population are indigenous minorities. Geographical remoteness, poverty and language barrier are the challenges we face when eliminating illiteracy. And we are on the right track thanks to all concerned public officials and civil society organization," addressed H.E. Pao Ham Phan to 400 participants. Plan Cambodia's Phen Bunthoeun who was nominated to represent NGOs in occasion highlighted the need to provide development and education opportunities to the children since their early start in life.
