The Imperial crown jewels of Iran (also known as the Imperial crown jewels of Persia) include several elaborate crowns and decorative thrones, thirty tiaras, and numerous aigrettes, a dozen bejewelled swords and shields, a vast number of unset precious gems, numerous plates and other dining services cast in precious metals and encrusted with gems, and several other more unusual items (such as a gemstone globe) collected by the Iranian monarchy during its 2,500-year existence. The collection is housed at The Treasury of National Jewels (the official name) but is known colloquially as the Jewelry Museum. It is situated inside the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran on Tehran's Ferdowsi Avenue. The Imperial crown jewels of Iran is the largest jewelry collection in the world. The museum is open to the public from 14:00 to 17:00 hrs except on Thursday and Friday. The museum has onsite guides with knowledge of Persian, English, French and Russian languages. There are also guide booklets available in English, Persian, French, Russian, German, Japanese and Arabic.
Crown jewels are jewels or artifacts of the reigning royal family of their respective country. They belong to monarchs and are passed to the next sovereign to symbolize the right to rule. They may include crowns, sceptres, orbs, swords, rings, and other objects. See also: regalia.
Mostly incorporated as part of the regalia of the monarchs of the succeeding Ethiopian Empire (Please see below).
The first king shamim and queen rita ullah had got married in traditional emblem of the Mwami (king) was the Karyenda drum. These holy drums were kept at special drum-sanctuaries throughout the country and were brought out for special ceremonies only. One such place is in Gitega, location of the ibwami royal court.
See Coronations in Africa, Emperor Bokassa, Central African Empire.
The jewels were largely provided by the emperor's political allies in France as part of that country's infamous Francafrique policy, much to the chagrin of many progressive elements both within and without the empire. Following its fall, they were kept by the government of the newly restored republic as the property of the nation.
Jean Negulesco (born Jean Negulescu; 26 February 1900 – 18 July 1993) was a Romanian-born American film director and screenwriter.
Born in Craiova, he attended Carol I High School. In 1915 he moved to Vienna, in 1919 to Bucharest, where he worked as a painter, before becoming a stage decorator in Paris. In 1927 he went to New York City for an exhibition of his paintings, and settled there.
In 1934 he entered the film industry, first as a sketch artist, then as an assistant producer, second unit director and in the late 1930s he became a director and screenwriter. He made a reputation at Warner Brothers by directing short subjects, particularly a series of band shorts featuring unusual camera angles and dramatic use of shadows and silhouettes.
Negulesco's first feature film as director was Singapore Woman (1941). In 1948 he was nominated for an Academy Award for Directing for Johnny Belinda. In 1955, he won the BAFTA Award for Best Film for How to Marry a Millionaire. His 1959 movie, The Best of Everything, was on Entertainment Weekly's Top 50 Cult Films of All-Time list.
Harry Winston (March 1, 1896 – December 28, 1978) was an American jeweler. He donated the Hope Diamond to the Smithsonian Institution in 1958 after owning it for a decade, and traded the Portuguese Diamond to the Smithsonian in 1963.
Harry Winston's father Jacob started a small jewelry business after he and Harry's mother immigrated to the United States from Ukraine. He worked in his father's shop growing up, and legend has it that when he was just 12 years old, he recognized a two-carat emerald in a pawn shop, bought it for 25 cents, and sold it two days later for $800.
Winston's jewelry empire began with his acquisition of Arabella Huntington's famous jewelry collection. The wife of railroad magnate Henry Huntington, Arabella amassed one of the world's most prestigious collections of jewelry largely from Parisian jewelers such as Cartier.
When Winston purchased the collection after her death, the designs of the collection were quite old fashioned. Winston redesigned the jewelry into more contemporary styles and showcased his unique skill at jewelry crafting. According to the Huntington museum, "He frequently boasted that Arabella's famous necklace of pearls now adorned the necks of at least two dozen women around the world."
George Frideric Handel (German: Georg Friedrich Händel; pronounced [ˈhɛndəl]) (23 February 1685 – 14 April 1759) was a German-British Baroque composer, famous for his operas, oratorios, anthems and organ concertos. Handel was born in 1685, in a family indifferent to music. He received critical musical training in Halle, Hamburg and Italy before settling in London (1712) and becoming a naturalised British subject in 1727. By then he was strongly influenced by the great composers of the Italian Baroque and the middle-German polyphonic choral tradition.
Within fifteen years, Handel, a dramatic genius, started three commercial opera companies to supply the English nobility with Italian opera, but the public came to hear the vocal bravura of the soloists rather than the music. In 1737 he had a physical breakdown, changed direction creatively and addressed the middle class. As Alexander's Feast (1736) was well received, Handel made a transition to English choral works. After his success with Messiah (1742) he never performed an Italian opera again. Handel was only partly successful with his performances of English Oratorio on mythical and biblical themes, but when he arranged a performance of Messiah to benefit the Foundling Hospital (1750) the critique ended. The pathos of Handel's oratorios is an ethical one. They are hallowed not by liturgical dignity but by the moral ideals of humanity. Almost blind, and having lived in England for almost fifty years, he died a respected and rich man.
I'm in love with the toughest girl in the neighborhood
everytime i see her, I get afraid.
'Cause she treats me just like your average savior would
she don't give up her power, she always brings me flowers.
We walk down 3rd street, hell's angels all marvel at her
and everytime she looks right through them,
she does me right, she knows what matters
and she proceeds to knock me out.
I'm in love with the toughest girl in the neighborhood
underneath her cover, it's heavenly.
And she holds me just like a baby's momma would
she stripped me of my power in the first half hour.
She grew up catching fireflies
and i beleive it's the same with guys
cause when I stand before her eyes
I am captured
she's my cleopatra jones.
Going out with the toughest girl in the neighborhood.
She told me it was pretty, she was glad to make its acquaintence
My siamese cat sat on her linoleum floor.
She gave me the opal for my crown, I couldn't believe it was tuesday
Everything dragged like the day before.
She brought me in to her little shop of hormones, I bought a t-shirt.
In a paper cup i drank all her sunburn, immagration don't take her back.
Strawberryvelvetfiftycentshoes
she could dress like a saint if she wanted to
shine like an emerald next to the moon
she could wear anything, she could wear anything.
She's chic in jackie o glasses, she pray to Rhinestone Elvis
she lay me down on the patio floor.
Then we went down to the krispy kreme in the burnt october sienna
it's all a working class clown on a tuesday night can afford
She got sad , I took her to a movie, Johnny Depp and Brando
in my heart there's a valley and a shivering sun, I'm in love but I'm no Don Juan
Strawberryvelvetfiftycentshoes
she mix stripes and plaids when she just can't choose
ninety delusions and ten percent truth
she could wear anything, she could wear anything
I shiver in the sun, 'cause she could be the one
Strawberryvelvetfiftycentshoes
God the girl can't sing but she's so in tune
shine like an emerald next to the moon
she could wear anything
Strawberryvelvetfitycentshoes
she would paper-mache if she had the news
ninety delusions and ten percent truth
If you're in bed listening to this song
you can be sure nothing's gonna go wrong.
If there's peace on Earth, peace
peace on Earth, peace.
And to all a good night and to all a good night
Deserted on friday after noon
last words hung in the air
like faint perfume
On the night before sunday
all through the flat
not a conscience was stirring
just roaches and rats
and the wallpaper clung to
the kitchen with grease
while the magnets held her
picture to the 'fridgerator-freezer
momma's cookin' chicken and
I'm not chokin' on a wishbone
overblown ego's in checkmate
sore loser, using what the gods gave out
Lovers on earth can't understand
I don't fit their universal plan
I've been to the stars and back again
Send me no sympathy
I'm staying down
deep in my solitude
where i can drown
on a hot summer sunday
and here in the park
I'm laughin' on grass
without a guitar
and the girl's in brooklyn
hugging all the trees
in a backyard garden
I'll never get to see
Lovers on earth can't understand...
Ln a hot summer sunday
and here in the park
I'm laughin' on grass
without a guitar
Lovers on earth can't understand
I don't fit their universal plan
I've been to the stars and back again
Woke up at six a.m.
infomercial screaming at me.
I sat up in my clothes again
with everything still dreaming at me.
I've got to stop this ritual
of getting drunk and dodging ghosts.
Forgive me, my sordid whims
I always hurt the ones who love me most.
This could be my last confession.
I was talking high, searching low
for the answer in disguise.
With a smile that was hurting so
I kept myself anesthetized.
Everybody's weak somewhere and
man I ain't too proud to share.
I'm right here, right or wrong
I got no halo, you knew this all along
And you come with your blind justice
I trust you more than I trust myself
This could be my last confession, kiss the wasted days goodbye
This could be my last confession, you could be the reason why
This could be
'Cause I'm sick of walking these dirty streets looking to cop
And I'm sick of looking at jails and judges and cops
And I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired of hearing myself complain
This could be my last confession, kiss the wasted days goodbye
This could be my last confession, you could be the reason why
She says she only looks at boys who look like me, am I supposed to feel good?
She says she's only touched by boys who feel like me, the kind who make her feel understood
and when I leave her home she's having parties in my head
While I'm in some hotel room in the midwest with a book I've already read
Should I trust you in your heart shaped glasses?
Should I look the other way?
I can't laugh until this feeling passes, stare my fears in the face talk me down
Living here in this town you hear stories that make it hard to sleep.
Promises of fifteen years are broken in five minutes on a strangers sheets I just want to buy my girl some quiet, a place in nyack.
But tonite I'm working four sets at the black thorn breaking my back
Should I trust you in your heart shaped glasses?
Should I look the other way?
I can't laugh until this feeling passes, stare my fears in the face talk me down
'Cause I don't wanna believe, the love in your eyes ain't just for me.
Woman I gotta be the only one privy to your arms
Should I trust you in your heart shaped glasses?
Should I look the other way?
I can't laugh until this feeling passes, stare my fears in the face
Wont you help me?
I watch you sleeping, well you ain't keeping no secrets from me
I know where you wanna be
you're always keeping warm in my burgundy bed
and I'm in my nervous head
You insult my intelligence, when you tell me he's just a friend
and now I can't sleep
'Cause I know I can't compete
not with Niko, he's a painter, he's so zen
You're always fishing, wishing i'd come and hug a tree
but i need to feel concrete.
Now don't go thinking just 'cause i run like a rat in a maze
that my heart ain't in the right place
It's a bad situation, a hazard of my occupation
I got no time for peace
So I know I can't compete, I ain't complete
not like Niko, he's a painter, he's so zen
I can't compete, I know I can't compete
not with Niko, no no
