Bob Dylan
Bob Dylan (born Robert Allen Zimmerman; May 24, 1941) is an American singer-songwriter and musician who has been a major figure in music for six decades. Much of his most celebrated work dates from the 1960s when he was at first an informal chronicler, and later an apparently reluctant figurehead of social unrest. A number of his songs such as "Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times They Are a-Changin'" became anthems for the American civil rights and anti-war movements. His early lyrics incorporated a variety of political, social and philosophical, as well as literary influences. They defied existing pop music conventions and appealed hugely to the then burgeoning counterculture. Initially inspired by the songs of Woody Guthrie, Robert Johnson, Hank Williams, and the performance style of Little Richard, Dylan has both amplified and personalized musical genres, exploring numerous distinct traditions in American song—from folk, blues and country to gospel, rock and roll, and rockabilly, to English, Scottish, and Irish folk music, embracing even jazz and swing.

Daniel Lanois (, Respell|lan-) (born September 19, 1951 in Hull, Quebec) is a Canadian record producer, guitarist, and singer-songwriter. He has released a number of albums of his own work and has produced albums for a wide variety of artists, including Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Peter Gabriel, Emmylou Harris, and Willie Nelson. Lanois is best known for producing, with Brian Eno, a number of albums for U2, including The Joshua Tree.

I'd heard of Jimmy a few years before I ever heard him sing. It wasn't until his 'Cimarron Manifesto' album that I had the pleasure. Dylan's song, 'Not Dark Yet', is from that fine recording, one that Jimmy produced. LaFave is originally from Texas, born in Wills Point, a town a half hour east of Dallas. Jimmy did some of his growing up in Oklahoma, where he went to high school, and has referred to his sound as 'red dirt music' because of the Oklahoma connection, which includes a Woody Guthrie connection (he was asked by Nora Guthrie to speak and perform at the induction of Woody Guthrie into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame). 'Cimarron Manifesto' came out in 2007 on Red House Records, and it climbed to the top of the Americana charts and stayed there quite a while. LaFave has a nice website - www.jimmylafave.com - and if you're new to his music, I'll hope you'll pay a visit. Jimmy's music has been a steady part of the playlist on my 'Better Days' radio show, for good reason. He's got something. If you listen, you'll hear it. DL
