The school year in Gaza began this morning, three weeks late
September 14, 2014. Approximately half a million students began the school year today, which had been postponed following the devastation caused during Operation Protective Edge. The 26 schools destroyed during the hostilities this summer add to the pre-existing shortage of some 200 schools.

Some easings in access, while the school year will begin almost three weeks late

Palestinian sources report changes to quotas for access of businesspeople via Erez Crossing as well as to the permitted age of children accompanying their parents traveling through the crossing. Twenty six schools sustained heavy damage in the course of hostilities while 122 others should be repaired in time for school year.

Initial assessments: 360 factories damaged during Operation Protective Edge
August 18, 2014. The Palestinian Federation of Industries in Gaza estimates that approximately 360 factories and workshops were damaged during Operation Protective Edge. The head of the Palestinian Contractors’ Union estimates that Gaza needs 3.5 million tons of construction materials to rebuild.

Electricity outages lead to bread shortages
