Lochaber (Scottish Gaelic Loch Abar) is one of the 16 ward management areas of the Highland Council of Scotland and one of eight former local government districts of the two-tier Highland region. There are also earlier senses of Lochaber as a district, and Parish, within the county of Inverness (Inverness-shire), and the county of Argyll - north of Loch Eil - and as simply a district of Scotland. All senses of Lochaber refer to an area in the west of the Scottish Highlands

The ward management area is one of five comprising the Highland Council's Ross, Skye and Lochaber corporate management area, which is one of three Highland Council corporate management areas. The Ross, Skye and Lochaber area consists of six out of the 22 wards of the council area and the Lochaber area consists of two wards, the Caol and Mallaig ward, which elects three councillors, and the Fort William and Ardnamurchan ward, which elects four councillors. Each of the other wards of the corporate area is a separate ward management area.

Robert Getchell (born 1936) is an American screenwriter. He is probably best known for writing Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore and creating the Sitcom Alice.

Francesco Barsanti (1690–1772) was an Italian flautist, oboist and composer. He was born in the Tuscan city of Lucca but spent most of his career in London.

In 1708 Barsanti travelled to Padova intending to pursue an education in science; after having attended a number of concerts in that city he decided to dedicate himself to music.

Several years later Barsanti completed his studies in Padova and ventured to London, where he intended to be hired by an orchestra. This is where the composer would spend the majority of his life.

Briefly in 1717 and once again in 1718, Barsanti returned to his native city of Lucca to perform at the Santa Croce Holy Festival (an annual event organised by affluent Luccan statesmen, as a means to uphold the city musical notoriety).

In 1735 Barsanti decided to leave London, the city which had provided him with so much prosperity, and marry a woman of the Scottish aristocracy—the society of whom would eventually aid him in the publication of a modest repertoire. At length he returned to London once again, but this time he performed as a violist. He performed for many years in diverse London theatres. Impoverished and destitute, Barsanti died suddenly in 1772.

Jeremiah McDade (born 1977, Edmonton, Alberta) is a Canadian musician.

McDade is a talented multi-instrumentalist and composer, playing Irish whistle, saxophone, fiddle and flute. His career began with The McDade Family Band at the age of five, and he has subsequently performed with a wide variety of groups both live and in the recording studio.

He has been featured on numerous soundtracks such as the 2001 World Athletics Championships, Biography Entertainment Channel, The Banff Film Festival and The National Film Board of Canada.

He graduated with High Distinction from the Jazz Performance Program at McGill University in Montreal, the Performance Program at Grant MacEwan College in Edmonton and has been an Artist in Residence at The Banff Centre. He is a co-leader of the group The McDades, along with his siblings Shannon Johnson and Solon McDade

Fred Morrison is one of the world's leading pipers and is a globally renowned composer of music for the bagpipes.

Morrison is known for his unique, powerfully exuberant, virtuosic and highly improvisational style which combines the Gaelic piping tradition of South Uist with contemporary and eclectic influences. One of the few pipers to have achieved success in both the competitive piping and folk music scenes, Morrison is a virtuoso of the Great Highland Bagpipes, the bellows-blown reel pipes, the Irish Uilleann pipes, and the low whistle.

Fred Morrison was born in 1963 near Bishopton, Renfrewshire, Scotland where he grew up, regularly visiting his paternal family home in Geirinis, South Uist. Taught piping by his late father - also named Fred - from the age of nine, Fred Morrison Junior became immersed in the rounded-out, driving piping style of the Outer Hebrides. His father taught him through the traditional method of canntaireachd, the sung vocables used to convey pipe music before notation came on the scene, and Morrison attributes much of his approach to that. "I hear that singing in my head every time I play," he told one interviewer.
