'Crowning the Priest' - Zechariah 6

Chapter 6 is the conclusion of the vision Zechariah receives from the Lord. It can be divided into two sections. The first section is best understood by reviewing the first scene of the vision Zechariah received which is recorded for us in Zechariah 1. The second section is tied to Zechariah 3. God was doing a "new" thing in Israel. Zechariah was told to "crown" Joshua the high priest. In the Levitical priesthood this was not done. But God was going to establish a new priesthood - after the order of Melchizedek. In this order, priest and king belong together. Joshua's crowning was symbolic of what would come to pass in Jesus of Nazareth - the man called The Branch. But we learn in this message that not only is Jesus priest and king after the order of Melchizedek - believers in Jesus are as well by virtue of the fact that we belong to Jesus our Head. Since the Head is priest and king after the order of Melchizedek, so also would be his Body.

Zechariah is shown a vision of Joshua the high priest in a courtroom before the Angel of the Lord. He is dressed in filthy clothes. This fact allows the accuser to accuse him before God. The accuser is quickly rebuked and told that Joshua is a "burning stick pluck from a fire." We are also told that Jerusalem has been chosen by God as His own. What we learn in this text and from others like it is this: much of what goes on in the throne room of God is carried out in a manner more like that of a courtroom where verdicts/judgments are rendered. The challenge we have is in understanding the protocol of God's courtroom. Agkistrodon piscivorus is a venomous snake, a species of pit viper, found in the eastern United States. The snake is a strong swimmer and will even enter the sea, successfully colonizing islands off both the Atlantic and Gulf coasts. The common names for the species include variants on water, swamp or black 'moccasin', 'viper', 'cottonmouth', and 'rattler'.[2] Many of the common names refer to the threat display, where this species will often stand its ground and gape at an intruder, exposing the white lining of its mouth. The diet consists mainly of fish and frogs, but is otherwise highly varied and, uniquely, has even been reported to include carrion. The specific name is derived from the Latin words piscis and voro, which mean "fish" and "to eat".[3] Three subspecies are currently recognized, including the nominate subspecies described here.[4]
