VAMPIRE FISH - Amazon River Monsters
BLOOD DRINKING FISH STORY CLICK HERE http://www.billschannel.com/?p=1327 Hey Guys Bill here... I don't know about you, but Vampires always scare the heck out of me. From Dracula to the Twilight Saga, these creepy blood suckers just send chills down my spine. But did you know humans aren't the only creatures to claim blood sucking vampire status? It's true. In the animal world we have Vampire bats and even a fish that will give count dracula a run for his money! It's called the Vampire Fish in English, but in the Amazon it is known as a Payara. it can grow up to 40 pounds and lives the jungle rivers of south america. It's most famous for the two giant teeth it has in the front of it's mouth - perfect tools for comping down on Sookie Stackhouse. The payara's most noticeable feature is the two long fangs protruding from its lower jaw. These fangs can be 4 to 6 inches long. Parayas grow to be around 3 feet long with an average length of 1.5 ft. The payara's diet mainly consist of smaller fish; they impale other fish with their sharp teeth and consume them. Payaras also share the same habitat with butterfly peacock bass (Cichla ocellaris). In the Amazon River basin, payaras are restricted to tributaries above the mouth of the Rio Tapajós. Today I am with Steve Townsend who sometimes goes by the name of The fish finder. We're going to see if we can catch a vampire fish for a up close and personal look at one of the most famous Amazon River Monsters around. Vampire fish can be caught just about anywhere in the Amazon region of South America, but for me, Venezuela offers more beautiful scenery than other areas. Vampire Fish are known to like rapidly moving water so we head down river looking for some good current... The fast water makes it difficult to fish from the boat - so Steve perches himself on some rocks. There turns out to be plenty of Vampire Fish here, but with all the currents running wild, it's extremely difficult to keep one on the hook... The next day, we head up river and find an area that has strong current but not strong enough to prevent us from fishing from a boat.... Within a few minutes, Steve knows he's found the right spot ... he is so confident that he says he can predict when a vampire fish would hit his lure! Steve went on to catch 21 more Vampire Fish during our trip... there we so many, I even caught one myself! Well it didn't turn out to be capable of draining me of my own blood, but there is no doubt I want to go swimming with one anytime soon. Nor will I ever fall asleep earlier than my rum drinking fishing buddies - who staged and photographed this on my pants while I slept. And that brings me to the question of the day. There is another "vampire like underwater creature that sucks the blood from it's victims? Check out this real vampire of the water at http://www.billschannel.com/?p=1327 Also! I am really looking forward to the new season of River Monsters with Jeremy Wade. Just read this in the newspaper. River Monsters has resonated with viewers, because "people like stuff that looks weird, that looks gnarly, that looks big." Plus, "everybody is fascinated by predators. It's in our DNA," says Wade. The show offers that winning, attention-grabbing combination. "I mean everybody likes dinosaurs, but we're actually quite familiar with dinosaurs now," compared to our limited understanding of creatures that inhabit the river, he says. The goal of Wade's show is to inspire people to educate themselves on river-dwellers; not scare people away from the water. Thew season begins on Sunday April 6th 2014- published: 04 Apr 2014

River Monsters: 20 Feet MAN Eating ANACONDA Encountered In Amazon River (Video)!!!
River Monsters: Bone Crushing Anaconda, River Monsters Host Comes Face To Face With Man Eating Anaconda 200 Pound in the Amazon River Monster's intrepid host Jeremy Wade faced down his greatest fear when he came face to face with a deadly 200 pound anaconda on the latest edition of his hit show, River Monsters. The British adventurer was followed by the crew of the Animal Planet smash as he navigated the Amazon River in Brazil, searching for the culprit in a series of recent, bone crushing human deaths in Porto de Moz, in the deepest rainforest. The dramatic encounter, which aired on Monday night, put Wade, 58, into the murky waters of the mammoth river, where he literally stumbled upon a slumbering snake he estimated to be at least 20 feet long. Kitted out in scuba diving gear, Wade, who has helmed six seasons of River Monsters, audibly gulped before he exclaimed, 'Look at the size of this! I've stumbled into a potential man eater.' He had made his way to Brazil to try and figure out what particular river monster had killed a man whose body was found dead with huge bruises on his neck and torso and with numerous crushed bones in his body.- published: 20 May 2014

Life on Amazon River
Life on Amazon River
The Amazon Basin is the world's largest rainforest, drainage area for its second largest river and one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth. Tropical forests have been present in South America for millions of years and were at one point spread over most of the continent. As the Earth cooled and grasslands spread, the rainforests retreated to strongholds like the Amazon Basin, shrinking and growing as ice ages came and went. Today's Amazon rainforest covers around 5.5 million square kilometres and sprawls across nine countries.- published: 05 Sep 2013

World's largest tortoise found in amazon river
World's largest tortoise found in amazon river
World's largest tortoise found in amazon river. Its age around 529 years old / height-59 feet/ weight-800 pounds OR 362.87 kg incredible... Amazing The red rimmed tortoise is also called the red-foot or red-legged tortoise, the Brazilian giant tortoise, or South American forest tortoise, as well as local names such as morrocoy, woyamou or wayamo, or some variation of jabuta. Many of the local names are shared with the similar red-footed tortoise. These types of large size tortoise are always found in the Amazon River, most of them are found in (Peru, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, and so on) the Adults often reach 3m in length, however this one is much larger. The tortoise Females have wide flattened shells, are larger and more numerous than the males tortoise, the Adult tortoise Arraus feed entirely on plant food. Their main diet is a plant that is native to the Chtac Province region of Brazil. These flowers of this plant have a gene in them which promotes increased cellular life thus allowing those that consumed them to have a greater lifespan. Amongst the native inhabitants are turtle's that grew constantly in their lifespan until the day they died. The introduction of this flower into their diet thus allowed them to grow to immense sizes and they served as local guardians to the plant. It was first discovered by the modern world in 1892 by Haughton who was the last person to had seen it in the century. The nesting habits of this species are similar to those of sea turtles. Just like sea turtles they gather meet in huge numbers so they can travel to suitable nesting areas. The female tortoise lay their eggs on sandbanks that are exposed where there is only dry season but there are relatively few such sites. The females timing is to come out on the sandbanks at night time to lay their eggs and go back to the sea, which can number anywhere from 90 to 100 soft-shelled eggs. and they then return to their feeding grounds which they belong to. The young when hatched are around 5 cm long dart directly for the water, but they emerge to the attentions of many predators so they can only about five percent ever reach the adult feeding grounds. this it is an endangered species and is protected in some country and areas.
