Woman Faked Quintuplet Pregnancy & Child Birth http://youtu.be/Q6D3swiljJk Full Story: On Tuesday, the cable company apologized to Ryan Block and his wife, Veronica Belmont, after the couple's attempts to cancel were stymied by a phone call with a customer service representative that Block called "straight up belligerent." The incident garnered attention because Block and Belmont posted a partial recording of the conversation on the Internet. In the eight-minute recording, the unnamed Comcast (CMCSA) employee badgered Block with questions such as "Why is it that you're not wanting to have the No. 1-rated Internet service, No. 1-rated television service available?" In the employee's defense, he explained one of the reasons for his questions: "If we don't know why our customers are leaving, how are we supposed to make it a better experience for you next time?" The recording went viral Tuesday morning, partly because the prominence of Block and Belmont. Block, a former editor of Engadget, works for AOL, and Belmont is a Web show host and writer. In a statement, Comcast said it was "very embarrassed by the way our employee spoke with Mr. Block and Ms. Belmont." The company said it was contacting them to "personally apologize." But the patience of two customers was seriously tested recently when they had the audacity to contact Comcast and make a simple request. There are few Comcast customer service calls that go well. But there are probably even fewer—we hope, anyway—that go this bad. Comcast customer Ryan Block had recently called up Comcast's customer service line to cancel his service, which is simple enough. Just not for the customer service rep Block reach on Comcast's end. We drop in at about 10 minutes into the call, according to Block description, and Comcast's rep is in full-breakdown mode. All of it, it seems, began with the question "Why is it that you don't want faster speed? Help me understand why you don't want faster internet." It is, in effect, the telecommunications version of the clingy ex-boyfriend, just begging you to not leave and make it all better. Block, for his part, remained steadfast. This recording picks up roughly 10 minutes into the call, whereby she and I have already played along and given a myriad of reasons and explanations as to why we are canceling (which is why I simply stopped answering the rep's repeated question — it was clear the only sufficient answer was "Okay, please don't disconnect our service after all.") Ultimately, Block perseveres through the Comcast rep's fusillade of questions to emerge victorious, canceling his service to switch over to Astound. Message along with the original posting: Please note: this conversation starts about 10 minutes in -- by this point my wife and I are both completely flustered by the oppressiveness of the rep. So! Last week my wife called to disconnect our service with Comcast after we switched to another provider (Astound). We were transferred to cancellations (aka "customer retention"). The representative (name redacted) continued aggressively repeating his questions, despite the answers given, to the point where my wife became so visibly upset she handed me the phone. Overhearing the conversation, I knew this would not be very fun. What I did not know is how oppressive this conversation would be. Within just a few minutes the representative had gotten so condescending and unhelpful I felt compelled to record the speakerphone conversation on my other phone. This recording picks up roughly 10 minutes into the call, whereby she and I have already played along and given a myriad of reasons and explanations as to why we are canceling (which is why I simply stopped answering the rep's repeated question -- it was clear the only sufficient answer was "Okay, please don't disconnect our service after all.").- published: 15 Jul 2014
