Primarily a small forward, Rioli also spends time in the midfield, being 1.77 m (5 ft 10 in) tall and weighing 80 kilograms (180 lb).
Born to a bloodline of acclaimed professional footballers, which includes uncles Michael Long and Maurice Rioli, the first eight years of Rioli's life were spent in the Tiwi Islands. He moved to Darwin and began playing for the St Marys Football Club and then at age 14, moved to Melbourne to pursue a career in the AFL—boarding at and playing for Scotch College. Rioli emerged as a standout performer in the 2007 AFL national under 18 championships, earning himself selection in the U/18 All-Australian team. On the back of this success, Rioli was selected at pick number 12 in the 2007 AFL Draft by the Hawthorn Hawks.
Rioli made his AFL debut in Hawthorn's defeat of the Melbourne Football Club at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in round one 2008. He built a reputation around his ability to chase and pressure the opposition as they attempted to rebound from the forward line. In round six, he was nominated for the AFL Rising Star Award, after his display against Richmond, in which he received a nomination for Goal of the Year. Rioli appeared in every game in his debut season, including an inspirational performance in Hawthorn's defeat of Geelong in the 2008 AFL Grand Final. He was rewarded for his impressive debut season with a sixth place finish in Hawthorn's Peter Crimmins Medal (Best and fairest award) and second overall in the AFL Rising Star Award.
Luke Hodge (born 15 June 1984) is a professional Australian rules footballer with the Hawthorn Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Hodge is the current captain of the club after Sam Mitchell handed over the captaincy prior to the 2010 Peter Crimmins Medal count.
In 2011, Hodge competed in the third season of the Channel Seven television series Australia's Greatest Athlete.
Luke Hodge was born in the Victorian town of Colac.

He was the number one draft choice of Hawthorn Football Club (taken from Fremantle for Trent Croad and Luke McPharlin). He was named in the 2008 All-Australian team and in International Rules team for Australia. Hodge was named sole vice-captain of the Hawthorn Football Club in October 2007.
Wayne Carey (born 27 May 1971) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with the North Melbourne and Adelaide Football Clubs in the Australian Football League (AFL).
A dual Premiership Captain at North Melbourne, four time North Melbourne Best & Fairest and seven time All-Australian, Carey, nicknamed "The King", is generally considered to be one of the greatest players to have ever played Australian Football. In 2001 he was named as centre half-forward and captain of North Melbourne's Team of the Century and in 2008 was named as Australian football's greatest ever player as part of a list of the top 50 players of all time, published in the book The Australian Game of Football, which was released by the League to celebrate 150 years of Australian rules football.
Carey has received significant media attention for his off-field scandals, both as a player and after retirement. He is an AFL commentator on Triple M in Melbourne.
Carey grew up in Wagga Wagga, regarded as the frontier dividing "Aussie rules" territory with that of rugby league. Carey played rugby league as a junior but began playing Australian Football at age eight and, in his early teens, moved to Adelaide, where he attended The Heights School, Modbury Heights and continued playing junior football for North Adelaide.
