Can You Pass the Acid Test? Membership Card 1960s Photo I.D.
http://www.postercentral.com An authentic, genuine Can You Pass the Acid Test? card dating from 1965-66. This Intrepid Trips ID card pictures Uncle Sam on the front, as a spoof on the U.S. Army's recruiting campaign of that era. The size of this Merry Pranksters ID card is that of a standard business card. Although it would've looked nice with some colors, this Acid Test wallet card was printed in straight B&W;, partly because color printing was so expensive back then. It was up to the participant to fill out the back of their Intrepid Trips card, and then sign it to make it official. Every cardholder was expected to paste in their own photo on the back of their Merry Pranksters card, perhaps using one of those 25-cent photo booths of the day. A lot of nascent hippies would fill out the back of their Acid Test ID card in satirical fashion. For example, "I was born" would be followed by "yes" or "naked and screaming," or they'd put "have TWO eyes"... things like that. As for the print run of this Intrepid Trips wallet card, it's not known how many were made. But since they're so small and easy to throw into the back of a drawer, hopefully a good number of them still survive. You can be sure a lot of fun was had around San Francisco and the Haight-Ashbury district, with local scenesters whipping out their Merry Pranksters wallet card when asked for identification. Wouldn't it be great to find an original Acid Test membership card from the likes of Ken Kesey, Jerry Garcia, Ken Babbs, Wavy Gravy, Allen Ginsberg or any of the famous early participants? The complete wording found on this Intrepid Trips membership card is as follows: (front) Can YOU Pass The Acid Test? (back) My Name is ________ I live at ________ I was born ________ I am ________ tall, have ________ eyes, ________ hair, and weigh ________ I am a member of INTREPID TRIPS, INC. and am doing nothing. ________________ Signature PASTE PHOTO HERE This vintage item of San Francisco psychedelic music-history memorabilia is enthusiastically discussed by collector Pete Howard (805-540-0020 or pete@postercentral.com). To see more remnants of the psychedelic era, in the form of concert advertising posters, just trip over to this page of my Web site: http://www.postercentral.com/psychedelic.htm- published: 10 Sep 2013

Beastie Boys Live At The I-Beam Club - San Francisco 1992
Very Rare Video Footage Of The Beastie Boys Live At The I-Beam Club In San Francisco - 2/13/92 18 Year Old Ben Escobedo Was In The Front Row ! Short Story ... This Show Was My First Beastie Boys Concert. I Can Still Remember That Day Like It Was Yesterday : It Was A Cold San Francisco Day & A Old Buddy Brad Bick & I Were Waiting In Front Of The I-Beam Club For A Chance To Meet The Beastie Boys As They Arrived At The Club. My Wishes Came True - I Was Able to Meet The Beastie Boys Before & After The Show. I Was Only 18 At The Time & It Was A 21 & Up Night Club. So Brad & I Came Up With A Great Idea. We Found Our Birth Certificates , Changed The Date Of Birth On Them , Went Down To Check Mart & Got ID Cards That Made Us 21 Years Old. The ID Cards Worked The Whole Way In As We Were Going Into The Club Through All The ID Checks. Then I Remember A Guy Stopped Us Right Before We Were Home Free , He Looked At the Fake Id's & Said What Is This - We Promised Him We Were Not There To Drink , But That I Was A Huge Beastie Boys Fan & Was Only There For The Show. He Waited A Second Then Let Us Go In. I Can Still Remember MCA Stage Diving Over Us ( As You Can See In The Video During " Shake Your Rump " ). I Also Remember Cypress Hill Opening The Show & One Of Them Getting Into A Fight In Front Of The Club. On A Side Note Brad Was Also With Me On A Ton Of Double Dates Back When I 1st Met My Wife Wendy , But That's A Whole Nother Story. I Want To Give a Huge Thanks To MCA , Mike D , Adrock & DJ Hurricane For Being So Cool To Us That Day. Ben Escobedo This Video Footage Was Taken From The Movie Ben Escobedo " Meeting The Beastie Boys " http://vimeo.com/porkys1982/meeting-the-beastie-boys ( 95 Min. SAN FRANCISCO PAROL STROLL
SAN FRANCISCO PAROL STROLL
Over the weekend, the Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco transformed into a Manila on Christmas day when a host of Filipino community groups gathered around carrying big and bright parol lanterns for an event called the Parol Stroll. On its 11th year, the Parol Stroll gathers Bay area Filipino groups to compete for the best designed parol lantern. Each contingent has to make its own parol to represent its group as well as the event's annual theme. This year, the theme is "Liwanag para sa tanan; Enlightenment for all", promoting immigration reform and gay rights. Participants include non-profits for seniors and veterans, after school programs for kids, Filipino theater and arts groups, environmental groups, and college cultural clubs. To select the winners, the judges chose three contingents with the best designed parol and best stage performance. Third place went to the Filipino Education Center, Galing Bata. Second place went to Canon Kip Senior Center. First place went to the Veterans Equity Center. Rappler San Francisco correspondent, Richgail Enriquez has the highlights of the Parol Stroll on the video above.- published: 22 Dec 2013
