Part seven of a 15-part series of documentaries produced by the American Broadcasting Company on the 20th century and the rise of the United States as a superpower. When Japan bombed Pearl Harbor in December of 1941, America was a country steeped in isolationist policies and ill prepared for war. Within a matter of weeks, the country made an amazing turnover from a peacetime nation suffering the final throes of a depression to the most efficient and productive "arsenal for democracy" that the world had ever seen. This was accomplished by the unity and sheer willpower of the American people, who backed the war effort almost unanimously. Berlin 1945 [Película Completa]
La película de Yuri Raizman nos cuenta la batalla final del Ejercito Rojo contra el fascismo durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial: la toma de Berlín. Con imágenes de los archivos cinematográficos alemanes, también desvela los planes fascistas para dominar el mundo (aunque no dice nada, supongo que para no perturbar a los que entonces todavía eran sus aliados, sobre la financiación de estos por parte de las grandes corporaciones norteamericanas, francesas e inglesas). El documental narra la historia de la última batalla decisiva contra la Alemania fascista, la captura de Berlín y la rendición incondicional de las fuerzas armadas alemanas ante el Ejército Rojo y los trabajadores soviéticos. Fue realmente una pena que los soviéticos creyeran entonces que con la derrota del nazismo se había terminado con el fascismo, en vez de continuar la batalla hasta poner la bandera roja de los trabajadores sobre Lisboa, Madrid o Londres, para acabar así definitivamente con todo rastro de capitalismo en Europa (el agotamiento de la larga SGM y la determinacion de cumplir los acuerdos con las potencias occidentales, algo que estos nunca hubieran respetado -de hecho pactaron en 1934 en Munich con Hitler para intentar echar a los nazis contra la Union Sovietica- harían que con la bandera sobre el Reichtag se diera por zanjada la guerra contra el fascismo). Sin embargo, hoy está todavia más claro que entonces, para acabar con las serpientes fascistas hay que terminar también con el huevo del cual surgen, el capitalismo. A Time-Lapse Map of Every Nuclear Explosion Since 1945 - by Isao Hashimoto
Japanese artist Isao Hashimoto has created a beautiful, undeniably scary time-lapse map of the 2053 nuclear explosions which have taken place between 1945 and 1998, beginning with the Manhattan Project's "Trinity" test near Los Alamos and concluding with Pakistan's nuclear tests in May of 1998. This leaves out North Korea's two alleged nuclear tests in this past decade (the legitimacy of both of which is not 100% clear). Each nation gets a blip and a flashing dot on the map whenever they detonate a nuclear weapon, with a running tally kept on the top and bottom bars of the screen. Hashimoto, who began the project in 2003, says that he created it with the goal of showing"the fear and folly of nuclear weapons."
