Every day, millions of people open Vine to share memories in the moment. Today, Vine unlocks a new camera that gives you the freedom to create a Vine in any way you want. The new camera offers powerful ways to edit your videos as well as the ability to import existing videos on your phone and turn them into Vines. Simply put, this release gives you total creative freedom –– and it’s all within the app.

Here’s what’s new:

In addition to your phone’s front- and rear-facing cameras, you now have another source for your Vines: you can import existing videos from your phone. From the capture screen, you’ll see a new option in the bottom left corner that lets you import a video. You can select one video or mix together several — and yes, slow-motion videos are supported. 

Next, it’s now easier to get your Vine just the way you want it. Whether you’ve imported a past video or shot a new one within the Vine app, you can edit your Vines faster and with more precision. Simply tap the scissors from the preview screen to edit your Vine and try out new tools such as the duplicate button and mute button. My favorite new tool is the preview and undo button — with one tap, you can preview your last clip right from the capture screen, and if you don’t want to use it, you just tap the same button again to undo it. 

If you’re looking for even more ways to shoot great Vines, simply tap the wrench from the capture screen. This will let you access a second layer of camera tools: grid, plus a new level; the focus lock, which now works with the front-facing camera in addition to the rear-facing camera; ghost mode, which shows you the last frame of your previous shot (and is super helpful for lining up shots!); and a new torch feature, so you can now shoot in low-light settings.

When we introduced Vine, we wanted to make it easier for people to create, share and discover short, looping videos. Today, people enjoy Vines not only within our mobile apps, but also on vine.co, across the web through embedded Vines, and on services like Twitter and Facebook. In fact, every month more than 100 million people watch Vines across the web*, and there are more than 1 billion loops every day. As the community continues to grow and more and more people find and watch Vines every day, we are excited to provide people with more tools to express their creativity and make even more, and more awesome, Vines.

Today we’re releasing a few small updates to Vine for iOS that make it easier for you to keep up with your new activity, explore different parts of Vine, and more.  

First, we’ve heard feedback that you want more control over notifications and which you receive, both via push notifications and in the Activity tab. With today’s update, you can now customize notifications to your heart’s content by accessing the Notifications menu in Settings. Note that any changes you make will affect push notifications and what you see in the Activity tab. Additionally, you’ll notice a new app badge that shows the number of unread activity items, plus unread VMs, right from the app icon on your device’s screen.

Next, you can now choose to share a Vine publicly or as a message right from the share screen. This means you can create your video and then decide where you want to share it, rather than making the decision about where you want to share it first. We know that you sometimes change your mind at the last minute; we do too.

A new navigation bar at the bottom of the app makes it easy for you to move around the app more quickly –– you can switch between tabs with one tap instead of two. Plus, as you view Vines in your home feed or from another user’s profile, the top bar fades as you scroll, so you can focus on what matters most: the Vines.

Finally, with this release, we’ve introduced support for new languages — on Android as well as iOS. Now you can use both apps in Arabic, Hebrew or English (UK), and Vine for Android also supports Farsi.  Head over to Google Play if you want to use Vine in one of these new languages, or download the latest version of Vine from the App Store to try out these new features. Starting today, you’ll see loop counts on Vines in our iOS and Android mobile apps and on the web. Loop counts indicate how many times people have looped a video, including on Vine and in embeds across the web.

With this update, there’s now a new way for you to quickly get a sense of how popular and interesting a Vine may be –– based on how many times people watch a Vine loop. The number, which you can see in our mobile apps and on vine.co, updates in real time, so as you watch a video, you’ll know you’re watching with others at the same time. See for yourself:

Redesigned Home Feed

Additionally, the feeds in our Android and iPhone apps now feature a new design, offering you bigger edge-to-edge videos and a cleaner view of likes and comments.

Activity

Finally, we’ve revamped the Activity feed to make it easier to know what’s happening on your Vines. In addition to a new separation between New and Older Activity, you’ll also see a notification when your Vines surpass milestones (e.g., 25 or 100 likes).

A quick note: you may notice that some Vines show a “+” next to the loop count. We started tracking loop counts on April 3, 2014. For Vines created on or before this date, the number displayed only includes loops since then. The “+” sign indicates that the actual loop count is likely higher, as there were probably additional loops before April 3rd.

The World Cup starts tomorrow, and we’ve introduced a new channel for you to experience the event from a unique perspective — through the eyes of people who are on the ground and closest to the action. The World Cup channel will make it easy for you to keep up with action on the field, the world’s reactions and other key moments as they unfold.

This is a new type of Vine channel. It focuses on an event, rather than a topic, letting you experience what’s happening as it happens. For the World Cup, you’ll be able to see videos created on-location and great content from key sources in Brazil, and more. As events take place and new videos are created during the games over the next 32 days, the World Cup channel will offer you a one-stop video hub for the world’s biggest sporting event.

The World Cup channel is available today on our mobile apps, and on the Vine website. To be a part of the World Cup conversation on Vine, be sure to include #WorldCup with your videos. Transport yourself to Brazil with Vine!
