How to Remove Anything from a Photo in Photoshop
How to Remove Anything from a Photo in Photoshop
The Importance of Removing Objects We have all taken photos that were close to perfect except for some object in the background. If given the chance it is always better to remove that object in person, it will take much less time than doing it in Photoshop and will look more natural. Sometimes however that is not an option, either you didn't see it or were not able to move it. That is where Photoshop comes in. In this episode we show you how to remove objects from your photos to make your subject stand out more. Selections Are the Key to Removing Objects Often times the objects you want to remove are behind other objects. In this episode we remove a trashcan and a street sign, both of which are behind a lamp post and a stone seat. In order to remove the objects from the background we have to make a selection that keeps the lamp post and stone seat from being affected. To make this selection we use the Pen Tool. It is one of the more complicated tools to use in Photoshop but it is well worth learning because of how powerful it is. If you want to learn more about compositing and using the Pen Tool be sure to check out our Your Friend, the Clone Stamp Tool After your selection is made it is time to use any tools available to build the background. If you are lucky there will be plenty of area to sample from that looks like the area you need to cover. Start out using the Clone Stamp Tool, it will duplicate a sampled area and can do most of the job for you providing you have an area to sample. Sometimes you will have to remove and object and that means creating something "behind" that object from scratch. This is where the brush tool comes in. When All Else Fails, Use the Brush Tool The brush tool is incredibly powerful and shouldn't be overlooked when creating a new background. it may not have as much detail as the Clone Stamp Tool but you are not limited to sampling areas. With the brush tool you can "paint" anything you can think of, including the background over top of an object you want to remove. This may sound really hard but using color samples from the surrounding image and a little creativity you would be amazed at what you can do. In this example we completely remove a trash can from the image and paint the building and the sidewalk in behind it. The purpose of the video is to encourage "mandatory disclaimers" in advertising which state that a model has had her body digitally manipulated in the hope of discouraging the practice of airbrushing. The creators believe that the "perfect" body types depicted in mass media, which are digitally enhanced, have a profound negative impact on self-esteem of young girls and are extremely misleading. PHAN WEEK: Create a Vintage Photo in Photoshop
PHAN WEEK: Create a Vintage Photo in Photoshop
How to Make a Vintage Photo in Photoshop There are many things that go into making an image appear vintage in Photoshop, and this episode highlights all the techniques you may need to make your photos look aged. Vintage Coloring Vintage photos tend to lose a bit of their color over time and take on a brown or sepia tone. We have found the best way to re-create this color is through a gradient map in Photoshop. We show you how to set your white point and black point to variations of brown. By placing this layer above all other layers in Photoshop, it will color your entire photo. Adding Texture to a Photo in Photoshop In this episode we add texture over our image to make it look distressed and old. When using textures over your images be sure to try different layer blending modes. We use a screen blend mode to make the darks disappear and the lights show. You can also adjust your texture levels, making darks even darker or lights lighter. Depending on your changes your texture will either become more or less visible. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for watching our free Phlearn Tutorials! How to Master the Clone Stamp Tool in Photoshop
How to Master the Clone Stamp Tool in Photoshop
The Importance of the Clone Stamp Tool The Clone Stamp Tool is one of the most important tools that Photoshop has to offer. It allows you to copy areas of an image and i very useful for getting rid of distractions or skin blemishes. In this episode we focus on getting the most out of the Clone Stamp Tool. You will learn how to navigate the settings and preferences for the tool. We also show you how we use the tool through several examples. Using the Clone Source Dialog The Clone Source Dialog is available by going to Window > Clone Source. Here you will see options for Clone Source, Transformation options, as well as overlay options. We go through each of these options and show you how we set up our Clone Stamp tool. Photoshop has the "Show Overlay" option checked by default however we prefer to keep it unchecked. The overlay can get in the way and is always available by hitting OPTN+SHIFT. Adjusting Clone Stamp Selections After using the Clone Stamp Tool to cover the lapel microphone there are still some adjustments that need to be made. It is best to use the Clone Stamp tool on new layers so you can transform the selection afterwards. To do this hit CMD+T then right click on the layer. You will be able to rotate, skew, transform and warp the selection so it fits with the image better. After getting the Clone Stamp selection in place we use a great technique to blend exposures. Some areas of this layer need to be lighter and some need to be darker and we accomplish this using a combination of a brush tool set to blending mode "Soft Light" and the "Lock Transparency" Option in the layer dialog; This will allow you to only paint over non-transparent pixels. We then paint black and white over the layer to brighten or darken it accordingly. Use Clone Stamp with Different Brushes Many people think that you are limited to a soft round brush when it comes to the Clone Stamp tool. The Clone Stamp tool can use any custom brush the regular Brush Tool can use. Try adjusting your brush shape or creating your own custom brush to best complete your project.
