Robertson attended Wichita State University and was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the fifth round of the 1999 Major League Baseball Draft. Robertson underwent Tommy John surgery in 1998 while a sophomore at Wichita State. Robertson pitched for the Low-A Utica Blue Sox and Single-A Kane County Cougars; with the latter he was 6–1 with a 2.29 ERA in eight starts. Robertson returned to Kane County for the 2000 season but spent most of the year on the disabled list battling tendinitis in his left elbow. Florida moved him up to the High-A Brevard County Manatees, where he went 11–4 as a starter. Robertson's rise continued in 2002, as Florida promoted him to the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs of the Eastern League. At Portland Robertson amassed a 10–9 record with a 3.42 ERA, sufficient that Florida summoned him to the major league club in early September.

The Bad Twin
2008, role: actor
, character name: Danny
Famous quotes by Nate Robertson:
"I respect every bit who Trammell is and what he stands for, ... and I hope that respect is always given by the people of Detroit. There's times we didn't win and people started to turn a little bit, but you always judge a man by his character."
"You have to ask yourself what's at stake,"
"This year, coming up so short of what we wanted to be, it's kind of a deflated feeling, ... You're in disbelief of how the season has come to this point. I know I am. If you had told me I'd have 15 losses at the end of the year before the season starts, I'd laugh at you."
"I thought I pitched well today, except for the home runs."
"I thought I had pitched well enough to win some of those games, ... Tonight, I made pitches when I needed them, and the defense made the plays."
"It's been a rough stretch. Myself, I can't accept the outcome of this year for this team."
"The most frustrating part is we have the potential to be such a good ballclub, and we're not achieving what we need to achieve. It's so frustrating. We've been so close."
"I think I had life on my pitches -- I wasn't throwing beach balls up there, ... I don't think I'm tired."
"I threw three straight changeups to Boone, then a fastball inside and he turned on it. That club is doing all the things right, right now."
"He comes off the field after another homer, and there's no emotion on his face,"
