For most of its history, the hotel was owned by the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway and its successors, including the CSX Corporation. Before its most recent purchase and sale, the hotel was operated by CSX Hotels, Inc., a subsidiary of the CSX Corporation.
Following a year of heavy losses, CSX placed the hotel into bankruptcy in 2009. Justice Family Group, LLC, a company owned by local entrepreneur Jim Justice, subsequently bought the property and guaranteed all debts, resulting in dismissal of the bankruptcy. Justice has promised to return the hotel to its former status as a five-star resort and to introduce "tasteful" gambling for guests as a revenue enhancer. The Greenbrier Hotel Corp. today operates as a subsidiary of Justice's company.
The last U.S. President to stay at The Greenbrier during presidency was Dwight Eisenhower. A total of 26 Presidents, both former and current, have stayed at The Greenbrier.
Eldrick Tont "Tiger" Woods (born December 30, 1975) is an American professional golfer whose achievements to date rank him among the most successful golfers of all time. Formerly the World No. 1, he is the highest-paid professional athlete in the world, having earned an estimated US$90.5 million from winnings and endorsements in 2010.
Woods turned professional in 1996, and by April 1997 he had already won his first major, the 1997 Masters. He first reached the number one position in the world rankings in June 1997. Through the 2000s, Woods was the dominant force in golf, spending 264 weeks from August 1999 to September 2004 and 281 weeks from June 2005 to October 2010 as world number one. From December 2009 to early April 2010, Woods took leave from professional golf to focus on his marriage after he admitted infidelity. His multiple infidelities were revealed by several different women, through many worldwide media sources. This was followed by a loss of form, and his ranking gradually fell to a low of #58 in November 2011. He snapped a career-long winless streak of 107 weeks when he captured the Chevron World Challenge in December 2011. As of April 8, 2012, he is ranked #8.

Tiger Woods’ magical mystery comeback tour rolls into the Greenbrier Classic
Perhaps Tiger Woods ought to take advantage of the world-renowned mineral spa at The Greenbrier Resort as his bid to rebound from a season of "worst evers" continues at this week’s Greenbrier Classic.
Certainly, "taking the waters" in White Sulphur Springs, W. Va., couldn’t hurt the struggling superstar, who may want to try something new to revive his sputtering career after he posted the highest 36-hole score of his career at Chambers Bay and missed his first U.S. Open cut since 2006.

Tiger Woods round 1-2 highlights at 2015 The Greenbrier Classic
Tiger Woods' 69 keeps him within striking range at Greenbrier
Tiger Woods didn't have his best in Friday's second round of The Greenbrier Classic on the Old White TPC in White Sulphur Springs, W.V.
However, that meant shooting 69 instead of 79.
In another sign of progress this week, Woods wasn't completely derailed by frustrating play that was a staple in all but one of his previous six starts this year. Under cloudy skies and in intermittent rain, Woods didn't battle his swing most of the day, but he did struggle with distance control and accuracy into the greens with his approach shots.
While his tempo, rhythm and body language have looked better this week than at any time this year, Woods needed 32 putts and had to overcome one stubbed chip shot, one drive that landed out of bounds but luckily bounced back into play and another drive into a water hazard on his back nine.
Still, Woods managed to finish with four birdies and three bogeys and sits in the middle of the pack at 5 under through 36 holes. He is four shots behind leaders Scott Langley (69) and Jhonattan Vegas, who hit all 18 greens in regulation in a round of 65.
Woods looked like the Woods of old on the par-5 12th, when he smoothly ripped a 325-yard drive and then a 227-yard 5-iron to 12 feet. From there, he lipped out his eagle putt and settled for birdie. And on 18, he rifled an 8-iron to draw to 8 feet for a closing birdie. He also had two bounce-back birdies.
But Woods also looked like the Woods of old (circa 2015) when he stubbed a chip on the 11th and hit drives on 13 and 17 that were 30 and 50 yards off line.
Perhaps it was those memories that led to Woods declining to talk with the media after the round, a rare occurrence during his long career.
Words or no words, Woods has to be happy that he now has more rounds in the 60s (4) than the 80s (3) this year. And his 66-69 marks just the second time he's signed for back-to-back round in the 60s; in the Masters he shot 69-68 in his second and third rounds.
Woods, who said Thursday that he's close to getting his act together inside the ropes as the swing changes take root, hit 14 greens in regulation, a day after he hit 15.
But while he hit 10 of 14 fairways in his opening 18, he hit just 7 of 14 on Friday. His 32 putts were five more than he needed on Thursday, but this was more indicative of his inability to hit the ball close to the hole with his approaches, be they from the rough or the fairway.
He will watch a July 4 fireworks show at The Greenbrier, but he'll need to produce his own pyrotechnics before that if he's to get within striking range in Sunday's final round. With the course softened by overnight rains and plenty more drops on Friday, it is ripe for scoring. For everyone.
Woods has more than two dozen players between himself and the leaders. A 66-66 weekend might not be good enough. But at least Woods, who last won in 2013 at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, the last of five wins that season that earned him player of the year honors for a record 11th time, has a chance.
And if his play through two rounds holds, and he continues to get closer and closer to putting everything together after his latest swing change, those 80s will be a thing of the recent past. He once again could be a force – and not a farce – going forward.

Tiger Woods expectations at The Greenbrier Classic 2015
Tiger Woods expectations at The Greenbrier Classic 2015
Despite a spectacular swoon that has dropped him from No. 1 in the world last May to his current 220th ranking -- thanks largely to a second-round 82 and missed cut in Phoenix, a first-round withdrawal at Torrey Pines and an opening-round 10-over 80 in Washington state -- Woods remains the marquee attraction for this and every week’s PGA Tour stop.
"We’ve got to have Tiger," Jim Justice, owner of the Greenbrier, said after Woods committed to playing at his tournament for the first time since 2012, according to Roanoke.com. "Tiger is one of the biggest stars in all of sport, and he brings significant attention to any event he enters."
With newly crowned 2015 Travelers champ Bubba Watson, 2010 British Open champ and 2015 U.S. Open runner-up Louis Oosthuizen, and fan favorite John Daly just some of the high-profile names also making starts at the Greenbrier, any other player who shot 80-76 and missed his national championship cut by a whopping 11 shots would be filler at a golf event rather than the headliner. But until that guy loses his spot as the main man on the tour website’s "Players" page and stops putting fannies in the seats at home and on the course, every tournament director echoes Justice’s sentiments.
By now, the most casual of golf fans know the drill. Woods has gone from being the best player in the world who went a tour-record 142 starts between 1997 and 2005 without missing a cut, to his lowest standing on the tour since his rookie year. Once on a trajectory to pass Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 major wins, Woods has many wondering if he’ll ever add No. 80 to his career total of 79 PGA Tour wins.
Until this season, Woods had only one career score of 80 or higher, and that came at the 2002 British Open when he carded an 81 in what observers described as the most horrific weather ever to hit an Open Championship. After shooting a then-career-worst 82 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open to miss the cut, a currently worst-ever 85 in the third round of the Memorial to finish last among those who made the cut, and the opening 80 at Chambers Bay, Woods now has four scores higher than 79 on his resume.
Unfortunately for the scuffling former ace, even tracks he used to dominate (eight wins each at Torrey and Bay Hill, five at Muirfield Village) are unmasking each and every error in the flawed game of the 14-time major champion. It is stunning to realize, and shockingly sad to watch, the golfer who as recently as 2013 won five tour events fail to crack the top-15 in the last two seasons.
How to fix what ails Woods is the topic du jour whether Tiger’s playing on a particular week or not, and if there is a golf pundit in the world who has not weighed in with a cure-all, just wait. Opinions on the mysterious ills that plague Woods range from the seemingly simple (take more time off/play more golf, ditch fourth swing coach Chris Como/go back to Butch Harmon) to the more complex (hire a mental coach to rekindle his confidence) to the extreme (retire).
For now, Woods chooses to get more reps in competition and the Greenbrier will serve as his tuneup for the British Open two weeks later. He’ll take a week off after his start at St. Andrews, where he won in 2000 and 2005, then play his foundation’s Quicken Loans National event.
Though the PGA Championship is not on Woods’ schedule, it is difficult to imagine he would pass up another opportunity to nab that elusive 15th major -- or 16th, if the world turns upside down and he prevails at The Old Course. Only the top 60 in the world qualify for the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational the week before the PGA, and it’s highly unlikely he would opt to play in the opposite tour event, the Barracuda Championship in Reno, while the big boys are teeing it up at Firestone.
Also improbable -- barring a complete turn-around in his overall game -- is Woods making it to the FedEx Cup playoffs. The top 125 golfers are eligible for the first leg, The Barclays.
The Aug. 27 start at Plainfield Country Club is only two months away and Woods has to start somewhere. The Greenbrier Classic, where he scored 71-69 and missed the cut by a stroke in his only previous appearance, is his next best shot at rebounding from a slump that, just two years ago, nobody saw coming.

Shaq’s opening tee shot at the Greenbrier Classic Pro-Am didn’t go so well. But you have to hand it to him, because he generated some major clubhead speed here. If would have actually made contact with the ball, this thing would have gone like 400 yards.

Metro 911 has confirmed police have arrested a second suspect in the shooting of two Lewisburg City Police Officers.
Greenbrier 911 said the two officers were shot when responding to a hit on a stolen vehicle with matching tags.

Tiger Woods round 1-2 highlights at 2015 The Greenbrier Classic
