NASA | Measuring Elevation Changes on the Greenland Ice Sheet
Since the late 1970's, NASA has been monitoring changes in the Greenland Ice Sheet. Recent analysis of data from both the ICESat satellite and an ongoing airborne mission called Operation IceBridge show us how the surface elevation of the ice sheet has changed. This animation portrays the changes occurring in the surface elevation of the ice sheet since 2003 in three drainage regions: the southeast, the northeast and the Jakobshavn regions. In each region, the time advances to show the accumulated change in elevation from 2003 through 2012. For more information, visit nasa.gov/icebridge. **If the ocean looks brown instead of blue, we recommend you check and make sure you are viewing the page with the most recent version of your Internet browser and any relevant plug-ins or extensions. Greenland's business boom
Greenland's business boom
Despite being one of the remotest and most inaccessible corners of the planet, Greenland is on the cusp of a vast boom in oil and minerals that may change life for its 60,000 people forever, says Colin Freeman. It covers an area the size of Western Europe, but has less than the population of an small English town. All but five per cent of its land mass is covered by snow and ice, and there is no road or rail network at all. Yet despite being one of the remotest and most inaccessible corners of the planet, Greenland is on the cusp of a vast boom in oil and minerals that may change life for its 60,000 people forever. From oil and gas, through to precious stones and rare metals that are used in everything from iPhones through to wind-turbines, the land on the top of the world is shaping to become the globe's final frontier. Here, Sunday Telegraph chief foreign correspondent Colin Freeman and cameraman Julian Simmonds report from the capital, Nuuk - the tiny town of 15,000 that is on the verge of an unprecedented boom. Climate Change 2013: Greenland Ice Sheet & Northern Polar Jet Stream - Peter Sinclair
New climate change science explained by Peter Sinclair, just back from a scientific expedition to the Greenland Ice Sheet. Sinclair explains the feedback effects of melting ice, and the impacts on the northern polar jet stream and mean sea level. Sinclair leads educators on climate science and created the Climate Denial Crock of the Week video series, which tackles myths about global warming, the greenhouse effect, and carbon dioxide pollution. Sinclair proposes moving towards wind and solar as the key to jobs and future energy needs. Recorded, edited, and published by Aaron Wissner of LocalFuture.org- published: 23 Jul 2013

In Greenland, Melting Ice Caps May Actually Be a Good Thing
Greenland Goes Green (2007): How the melting of Arctic ice is spurring an agricultural resurgence in Greenland (but reindeer herding is now more complicated than before the melt) For downloads and more information visit http://journeyman.tv/57542/short-films/greenland-goes-green.html Greenland's ice caps are melting faster than predicted -- and local farmers couldn't be happier. Thanks to rising temperatures, they can now grow new crops and raise cattle. "I really like my cattle. They've very gentle", boasts farmer Sofus Frederiksen. For the first time since the Vikings, farmers can now raise cattle. Warmer seas are bringing huge catches of cod and growing seasons are up to a month longer. "A little bit of extra warmth is good for us", states agricultural consultant Kenneth Hoegh. "We're growing things we would have hesitated to grow in the past". But not all farmers are happy. With so little snow, Stefan Magnusson finds it hard to herd his reindeer. Previously, he used a snowmobile but now he has to do it by helicopter.
