The electrical signals they send control whether a dot in the image glows in red, green or blue. The transistor consists of a large number of thin films. Some of these are made from molybdenum. Plansee supplies the raw material in the form of sputtering targets. These must be especially pure to make sure that the molybdenum film has good conductive properties. Only then will be the image be sharp and free from smearing. Even the tiniest particles of impurities in the film interfere with the functioning of a transistor. Whole pixels can disappear. The resolutions of modern displays are increasing all the time. Ultra-high resolution screens have four times more pixels per unit area than conventional HD screens. The molybdenum conductor strips are correspondingly tiny. In comparison, any extraneous particle is enormous. The purity of the molybdenum film is therefore becoming ever more important. But there's no cause for alarm. Plansee molybdenum sputtering targets have a guaranteed purity of 99.97 percent -- and in most cases even higher. That means that no impurities enter the glass melt. Our powder metallurgical manufacturing methods guarantee extremely uniform material properties. And we use special forming processes to compact our materials to an extremely high density and give them their creep resistance. But aggressive refining agents such as antimony oxide or sulfate represent a challenge even for our electrodes. To cope with these particularly aggressive glass melts, we have developed a special material: Molybdenum-Zirconium Oxide. Small quantities of zirconium oxide, combined with specially developed forming methods, give the material its unbeatable toughness and corrosion resistance.
