And since Rouhani's election — and I stress this — this vast and feverish effort has continued unabated. Netanyahu landed in New York early today and will visit the White House tomorrow. The Israeli leaders spoke after the historic call between Rouhani and Obama, the highest-level USA Iranian encounter since before Iran's Islamic revolution of 1979. Netanyahu has expressed skepticism about the motives behind Rouhani's initiative and suggested Iran is trying to buy time to develop the capability to make a nuclear weapon. Iran says its nuclear program is for civilian needs such as electricity. "Every attempt to enforce UN resolutions on Iran to show transparency and offer proof that they have no plans for a nuclear arms program has failed until now," said Tzachi Hanegbi, head of the Israeli parliament's House committee and a member of Netanyahu's Likud party. "The Iranian nuclear program is at a critical point," he said, calling for tougher sanctions. "We don't want the Americans to waste this critical year with worthless talk." Atomic Weapons Netanyahu has laid out four specific conditions Iran must agree to before the U.S. and Europe lift sanctions: halting all uranium enrichment, removing all enriched material, closing the reactor at Fordo, near the city of Qom, and stopping plutonium production. "Rouhani's assault of reconciliation is only another deceitful trick," Avigdor Liberman, former foreign minister and head of parliament's foreign affairs and defense committee, said in comments posted on his Facebook page. The gunmen fired a rocket-propelled grenade at two Israeli military jeeps on patrol, starting a battle that killed two Israeli officers and one of the militants, according to the military. The rest then retreated underground, back to Gaza. Hours later, the military says, two more militants entered Israel either through a tunnel or by breaching the border fence. The Israelis reported the men were carrying tranquilizers and handcuffs; one militant was fatally shot and the other died when the explosive belt he was wearing detonated, a military spokesman said. And Saturday night, in yet another incursion, a militant slipped through a different tunnel into Israeli territory and, according to the military, fired on troops who killed him. The infiltrations came even as the Israeli military pressed deeper into Gaza, killing 62 Palestinians in an intensifying ground war it says is focused both on destroying a labyrinth of tunnels before they can be used for launching attacks and on quelling rocket fire from the Palestinian enclave. The morning clash was the first time in the current war that the militants killed soldiers inside Israel. It came just three days after 13 Hamas gunmen poured from another tunnel into Israel in an attempted assault. Israeli officials framed the encounters as successes in thwarting attacks on Israel. But they were also an indication that Hamas could strike even during the invasion through a tunnel network that Israeli officials just revealed they had been studying for a year to plan a way to destroy them. However, not only has President Obama refused to take such action, his administration is going in the opposite direction. The White House is resisting tougher economic sanctions. It is lauding the emergence of a "moderate" like Hassan Rouhani as Iran's new president. It is offering an olive branch to Rouhani, actively opening the door to many more months of diplomatic negotiations. It is doing so even though the Ayatollah Khamenei -- the true power in Iran -- has shown no sign he is willing to back down from pursuing The Bomb, and even though Rouhani's claim to fame was that as Iran's chief nuclear negotiator, he fooled the world into believing that Iran was not advancing its nuclear program from 2003 to 2005 when the truth was Iran was, in fact, aggressively building its nuclear capacities. "We are ready to engage in serious and substantial talks without wasting time," Rouhani said Wednesday, urging the West to focus on "talks, not threats." Netanyahu, however, is not buying it. He is making the case that only intense and immediate pressure -- much harsher economic sanctions, plus clear evidence of a serious and looming military option -- has even the remotest hope of persuading Iran that the time for diplomatic games is over. Iran deal alienate Israel - New Current News Like Subscribe & Share For More Videos Subscribe To - New Current News http://goo.gl/EEEmnj - Iran deal alienate Israel SUBSCRIBE to New Current News might see israel defy the united states? well, ink it's ultimately clear that in the conversation about iran israel and the united states are clearly on the same side. we both agree that the issue at hand is the prevention of iran's nuclear program rather than its containment. so at the end of the day israel and the united states have worked closely and will continue to work closely on this issue together with the international community. we do have our opinion about the interim opinion that was signed four days ago. we think that this agreement is insufficient simply because of the fact that it does not address the core issue of iran's motivation of the very nature of this regime. i think it would be appropriate to compare this to a situation where you take a pyromaniac and you limit his or her access to fire by 80%, but they can still inflict harm with the remaining 20%, an hopefully the permanent agreement that will be negotiated soon will deprive iran of the remainder of the remaining 20%. i'm not sure i agree with you when you say israel and the u.s. are on the same page in terms of prevention. i get the sense from this administration that they are thinking about containment. here is the difference. we believe that preventing iran from making one bomb or enriching enough uranium to produce one bomb is not enough. we believe that what needs to be done is for the entire international community to recognize that the problem is very capability of iran to enrich uranium, albeit at a lower level. this is what the interim agreement does. the interim agreement is allowing iran. right. iran will have enough uranium to produce one bomb. the problem is the very capability, the very technology that allows them to enrich uranium. it doesn't matter which level. The Obama administration is pressuring Israeli generals to stop publicly voicing their concerns about the administration's security proposals in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations and instead endorse the administration's plans, according to Israeli media reports. The administration is seeking a complete or partial IDF withdrawal from the Jordan Valley, where the border between Israel and Jordan lies at the eastern edge of Judea and Samaria, also called the West Bank. The Palestinian Authority has long sought control of the valley. However, Israel and Jordan are opposed to an IDF withdrawal, which they fear would enable the transit of terrorists and arms through Jordan into the West Bank. After a prominent retired Israeli general spoke out against IDF withdrawal from the Jordan Valley, Israeli media reported that the Obama administration's head envoy to the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, Martin Indyk, convened a meeting of Israeli security officials.
