Profiles Rt Hon Sadiq Khan MP Sadiq Khan is the Member of Parliament for Tooting, where he has lived all his life. He was first elected as MP for Tooting on 5th May 2005 and was re-elected on 6th May 2010. In June 2009 Sadiq was appointed to the Privy Council and was asked to attend Cabinet meetings, becoming both the first Asian and the first Muslim to do so. He is Shadow Lord Chancellor and Shadow Secretary of State for Justice (with responsibility for political and constitutional reform), having been elected to the Shadow Cabinet on October 7th 2010. In January 2013 Sadiq was appointed as Shadow Minister for London. Previously the Shadow Secretary of State for Transport, Sadiq was the first ever BAME politician to be elected to the Labour Party's Shadow Cabinet, and was the youngest member of Ed Miliband's cabinet. He served in a number of ministerial posts during the last Labour Government. He is a member of the Labour Party's National Executive Committee (NEC), the Labour Party's governing and policy-making body. Shabana Mahmood MP Shabana Mahmood was elected Member of Parliament for Birmingham Ladywood constituency on 6 May 2010, with a majority of 10,105. She made history in becoming one of the first Muslim women, and one of the first Asian women, to be elected to Parliament. In 2010, Shabana was promoted to the Shadow Home Office Team as a Junior Minister and in 2011 became Shadow Minister for Higher Education. From January 2013 she has taken in responsibility for covering science and research and so is now Shadow Minister for Universities & Science. After graduating from the University of University, Shabana completed the Bar Vocational Course at the Inns Of Court School of Law, having been awarded a scholarship by Gray's Inn. She completed her pupillage at 12 King's Bench Walk chambers in London, after which she practised as an Employed Barrister, specialising in professional indemnity litigation. Shabana is an experienced litigator and has acted in several high value and complex cases. Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP Keith Vaz is the first elected Asian Member of Parliament since Shapurji Saklatvala in the 1920s and remains the longest-standing Asian MP. Vaz was first elected Member of Parliament for Leicester East in June 1987 and was re-elected in June 2010. He has held a number of parliamentary posts, including being a member of the Home Affairs Select Committee, of which he has been the Chair since July 2007; he has previously been Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Attorney General and Solicitor General; and formerly the Minister for Europe, Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Other positions currently held include as an elected member of the National Executive Committee and as the Vice-Chair of Women, Race and Equality Committee of the Labour Party. He has held both of these positions since March 2007. Since 2000, he has been a patron of the Labour Party Race Action Group and in 2006 he was appointed the Chairman of the Ethnic Minority Taskforce.
