HERO for BOTSWANA Mission 2013
HERO for BOTSWANA Mission 2013
# HERO for BOTSWANA# The impact of the HIV epidemic in a society is heavily influenced by the social, political, demographic, and economic circumstances in which people live. The case of Botswana In Sub-Saharan Africa, Botswana is well known on two counts; first as a fast growing economy due to the vast reserve of diamonds discovered in the 1960's as well as a country with one of the highest prevalence of HIV/AIDS estimated at 17.6 % in 2009. This therefore makes HIV arguably the biggest challenge facing this emerging economy , in the 21st century. With the concerted effort of the international community and donors, Botswana is trying hard to reduce the high prevalence rate of HIV and AIDS, recorded at 17.6 % making an approximate (1 in 5 people infected in the country) and has made great enroads in the fight agaisnst HIV, however it is not out of the woods yet. The primary cause of HIV, and indeed many other sexual transmitted infection, as noted all over the world, is that many people are still having casual unprotected sexual intercourse. Condoms can be very expensive, unaffordable and therefore inaccessble to many particularly in developing economies. This is counterecative to the fight against many sexual transmitted disease including HIV. Hero Condoms is trying to aid in reduce the incidents and hence the prevalence of HIV and AIDS in Botswana by availing free high quality using condoms. Hero stands as a socially responsible company with a moral obligation to give back where it matters the most, availing high quality , internationally acclaimed condoms to orninary Batswana at no cost. "This is an absolute great initiative and idea. We are definitely interested in what Hero condoms can do to help the fight against HIV" it adds to the concert effort in helping to achieve our goal of " no new infections by year 2016 " Dr Lebelonyane, The Director for HIV care and Prevention, Ministry of health Botswana. This company has chosen to go where no one else has been. Not only giving out condoms for free but rather supporting and finding ways to be target specific, helping making it possible for the product to reach the intended cohort. By having great initiatives like Bus campaigns, availing hero condoms in bar and bottle stores, shabeens , street barber shops free of charge , as well as having packages that impart knowledge and sensitize people to the issue of HIV , Hero condoms helps to keep the likely hood of acquiring HIV in people's minds and thus encouraging them to take precautions. "I'm very excited about the potential of what Hero Condoms will do In these country, we welcome you with open arms ... Dr Tebogo Madidimalo WHO -- Botswana "We are very thankful for great initiatives like this one represented by Hero condoms" Ambassador of Botswana to Australia H.E Molosiwa Selepeng , keep up the good work....
