Since independence, Botswana has had the highest average economic growth rate in the world, averaging about 9% per year from 1966 to 1999. Growth in private sector employment has averaged about 10% per annum over the first 30 years of independence. The relatively high quality of the country's statistics means that these figures are likely to be quite accurate. The government has consistently maintained budget surpluses and has extensive foreign exchange reserves.

Botswana's impressive economic record has been built on a foundation of diamond mining, prudent fiscal policies, international financial and technical assistance, and a cautious foreign policy. It is rated the least corrupt country in Africa, according to an international corruption watchdog, Transparency International. By one estimate, it has the fourth highest gross national income at purchasing power parity in Africa, giving it a standard of living around that of Mexico and Turkey.

Trade unions represent a minority of workers in the Botswana economy. In general they are loosely organized "in-house" unions, although the Botswana Federation of Trade Unions (BFTU) is consolidating its role as the sole national trade union centre in the country.

Botswana, officially the Republic of Botswana (Tswana: Lefatshe la Botswana), is a landlocked country located in Southern Africa. The citizens are properly referred to as "Batswana" (singular: Motswana), but many English-language sources use "Botswanan". Formerly the British protectorate of Bechuanaland, Botswana adopted its new name after becoming independent within the Commonwealth on 30 September 1966. It has held free and fair democratic elections since independence.

Botswana is flat, and up to 70% is covered by the Kalahari Desert. It is bordered by South Africa to the south and southeast, Namibia to the west and north, and Zimbabwe to the northeast. Its border with Zambia to the north near Kazungula, Zambia is poorly defined but at most is a few hundred meters long.

A mid-sized country of just over two million people, Botswana is one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world. Botswana was one of the poorest countries in Africa when it gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1966, with a GDP per capita of about US$70. Botswana has since transformed itself, becoming one of the fastest-growing economies in the world to a GDP (purchasing power parity) per capita of about $14,000. The country also has a strong tradition as a representative democracy.

Razia Khan (Bengali: রাজিয়া খান), (1936–2011) was a modern female Bangladeshi author known for her contributions as a novelist.

Her first creative impulses found expressions in rhymes, Brishti poriya jay/mushol dharay…….. She was only 8 then. By 15 she was writing full-fledged novels and at 18 she wrote Bot tolar Upannayash that created quite a stir when it was published in 1958. Her adolescence was spent reading Tagore, Sharat Chandra Chatterji, Gorky, Shaw, Galsworthy and Marx Engels.

A novelist, poet, playwright, essayist, short story writer Razia Khan has not written enormously, but whatever she has written will be treasured along with the immortal works of Bangla literature.

Though her first love was writing and literature she didn't limit herself just there. She took great interest in acting and performed on both the radio and the stage. She also earned fame for recitation and as a presenter on the radio. An exceptionally brilliant student of English literature, Razia Khan obtained first class first in both Honours and Masters degrees, went to the University of Birmingham, UK, on a scholarship from the British Council for higher studies. On her return she joined the editorial board of the then Pakistan Observer (renamed the Bangladesh Observer after the independence), but soon left to join the English Department of Dhaka University which set her career path. Among all these she has, however, continued with her first and ever-lasting love of writing.
