BREAKING NEWS: Actress Lauren Bacall dead at age 89 - RIP
Hollywood icon Lauren Bacall has died. She was 89 years old.
A family member revealed to the gossip site TMZ that the actress passed away Tuesday morning from a massive stroke at her home.
Bacall is best known for her roles in films like Key Largo, and The Mirror Has to Faces.
Bacall\'s passing was first reported on Twitter by MSNBC presenter Thomas Roberts, who wrote that he got the news from a source connected to the actress\' friends and family.

In 1945, Bacall wed her one-time co-star Humphry Bogart, and the two remained married until the actor\'s passing in 1957.

Four years later, Bacall tied the knot with Jason Robards, but their marriage fell apart in 1969. Bacall is survived by her three children.
Lauren Bacall was born Betty Joan Perske on September 16, 1924, in New York City to Natalie Weinstein-Bacal, a Romanian Jewish immigrant, and William Perske, who was born in New Jersey.

Over the course of her successful acting career that spanned six decades, Bacall started in more than 70 films, beginning in 1944 when Howard Hawks cast her in the role of Marie \'Slim \'Browning in To Have and Have Not opposite Humphrey Bogart.

The sultry screen siren, whose striking face earned her the nickname The Look, also graced with her presence such films as The big Sleep, Designing Women, How to Marry a Millionaire and Blood Alley.

Later in life, Bacall conquered Broadway, winning a pair of Tony awards.

In 1996, Bacall\'s turn as Hannah in The Mirror Has Two Faces earned her an Oscar nod for Best Supporting Actress.

Bacall received a Lifetime Achievement Academy Award in 2009 when she was 85 years old.

Most recently, the 89-year-old did a lot of voice-over work, including in the cartoon TV show Family Guy and the animated feature Ernest and Celestine.

Over 1,000 people have died from the ongoing Ebola outbreak that began in West Africa in late 2013, prompting authorities to experiment with new, untested drugs. No proven vaccine exists to combat the deadly virus, but an untested drug made in San Diego may be able to save lives. Called ZMapp, the pharmaceutical had only been tested on animals when administered to two Americans infected with Ebola, and the patients have shown drastic improvements since receiving the treatment. RT’s Manila Chan takes a look at the drug and why the world’s leading medical authorities are willing to use the untested chemical cocktail.

Two small children have been orphaned while on vacation in Cabo da Roca, Portugal, after witnessing their parents’ accidental deaths. The family from Poland was visiting scenic Cabo da Roca on Saturday night.

The parents crossed a barrier to take a selfie together near the 140-meter-high edge.

But while their children looked on, they took one step too far back and went over the cliff.

A Spanish couple witnessed the accident and called emergency services. Bad weather prevented rescuers from recovering the couple’s bodies on Saturday. The couple’s bodies were eventually recovered on Sunday. Their children, aged 5 and 6, are in the care of Polish diplomats and receiving counseling.

ARIRANG NEWS 20:00 Pope Francis urges two Koreas to be patient with each other
ARIRANG NEWS 20:00 Pope Francis urges two Koreas to be patient with each other
  • Order:
  • Duration: 26:48
  • Updated: 14 Aug 2014
Pope Francis started his five-day visit to South Korea on this Thursday.... And in first meeting with President Park Geun-hye, the pope, known for his affection for the divided Koreas, called for more dialogue, patience and understanding between the two sides. Choi You-sun starts us off. On the first day of his much-publicized visit to South Korea, Pope Francis called on the two Koreas to put down their display of force... and be patient in trying to forgive and understand each other. "Peace is not simply the absence of war, but 'the work of justice.' And justice, as a virtue, calls for the discipline of forbearance." The pontiff, who has publicly prayed for peace and reconciliation on the divided Korean peninsula, added justice demands a will for mutually-beneficial goals and building foundations of mutual respect. Recognizing efforts for stability in the South, Pope Francis said such efforts were close to his heart as they affect the stability of the entire world. President Park, who back in March proposed increasing humanitarian aid to the North... and people-to-people exchanges between the two sides to better prepare for reunification,... said Pyongyang, for its part, should lay down its nuclear arms. "For Koreans on both sides to escape war and nuclear threats, enjoy happiness, and to reunite for world peace and prosperity, North Korea must first stop its nuclear weapons development, that can take away so many lives at once." She then asked the pope to continue praying for those in conflict to forgive, those divided to unite, and for Koreans to work towards a unified Korea. Pope Francis, who is dedicated to the society's marginalized and those in suffering, said not meeting their immediate needs, but assisting with their human and cultural advancement, should be the main goal. "With peace and reconciliation high on the minds of Koreans during the pope's visit, it will be interesting to see what message President Park has for North Korea and Japan Friday, which marks the peninsula's liberation from Japan's colonial rule. Choi You-sun, Arirang News."

Iraq crisis: France to deliver arms to Iraqi Kurds | BREAKING NEWS - 13 AUG 2014 For more Latest and Breaking News Headlines SUBSCRIBE to https://www.youtube.com/user/ZakWorldNEWS France will supply arms to Iraq's Kurds "in the coming hours", French President Francois Hollande has announced. France has received approval from authorities in Baghdad for the decision, French media reports say. Kurdish forces are fighting militants from the Islamic State (IS) group. Thousands of members of the Yazidi sect have fled the IS advance. UK Prime Minister David Cameron says an international plan is being drawn up to rescue the stranded Yazidis. He says the UK will play a role in the mission, the details of which "are now being put in place". A statement from Mr Hollande's office said the arms would be supplied "in response to the urgent need expressed by the regional authorities in Kurdistan". "For several days, France has had the necessary measures in place to support the operational capabilities of the forces fighting IS," the statement said. "The catastrophic situation faced by the population of Iraqi Kurdistan means the international community must step up its mobilisation," it went on. The US has also reportedly begun supplying weapons to the Kurdish forces, known as the Peshmerga. Earlier, the US announced it had sent 130 more military advisers to the Kurdish region. The marines and special operations forces will assess the humanitarian situation and will not be engaged in combat, a US defence official said. The US has been carrying out air strikes against IS fighters in northern Iraq. The political leader of Iraq's Kurds, Massoud Barzani, had on Sunday appealed for international military aid to help defeat the Islamist militants. The United Nations has said that tens of thousands of civilians, including members of the Yazidi sect, are trapped on Mount Sinjar by IS fighters and need "life-saving assistance". BREAKING NEWS: Actress Lauren Bacall dead at age 89 - RIP Hollywood icon Lauren Bacall has died. She was 89 years old. A family member revealed to the gossip site TMZ that the actress passed away Tuesday morning from a massive stroke at her home. Bacall is best known for her roles in films like Key Largo, and The Mirror Has to Faces. Bacall's passing was first reported on Twitter by MSNBC presenter Thomas Roberts, who wrote that he got the news from a source connected to the actress' friends and family. In 1945, Bacall wed her one-time co-star Humphry Bogart, and the two remained married until the actor's passing in 1957. Over the course of her successful acting career that spanned six decades, Bacall started in more than 70 films, beginning in 1944 when Howard Hawks cast her in the role of Marie 'Slim 'Browning in To Have and Have Not opposite Humphrey Bogart. The sultry screen siren, whose striking face earned her the nickname The Look, also graced with her presence such films as The big Sleep, Designing Women, How to Marry a Millionaire and Blood Alley. Later in life, Bacall conquered Broadway, winning a pair of Tony awards. In 1996, Bacall's turn as Hannah in The Mirror Has Two Faces earned her an Oscar nod for Best Supporting Actress. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets.
