Terrence Mitchell Riley, (born June 24, 1935) is an American composer and performing musician intrinsically associated with the minimalist school of Western classical music and was a pioneer of the movement. His work has been deeply influenced by both jazz and Indian classical music.
Born in Colfax, California, Riley studied at Shasta College, San Francisco State University, and the San Francisco Conservatory before earning an MA in composition at the University of California, Berkeley, studying with Seymour Shifrin and Robert Erickson. He was involved in the experimental San Francisco Tape Music Center working with Morton Subotnick, Steve Reich, Pauline Oliveros, and Ramon Sender. His most influential teacher, however, was Pandit Pran Nath (1918–1996), a master of Indian classical voice, who also taught La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela. Riley made numerous trips to India over the course of their association to study and to accompany him on tabla, tambura, and voice. Throughout the 1960s he traveled frequently around Europe as well, taking in musical influences and supporting himself by playing in piano bars, until he joined the Mills College faculty in 1971 to teach Indian classical music. Riley was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Music at Chapman University in 2007.
Donald Stewart "Grapes" Cherry (commonly referred to as Don Cherry) (born February 5, 1934) is a Canadian ice hockey commentator for CBC Television. Cherry co-hosts the "Coach's Corner" intermission segment (with Ron MacLean) on the long-running Canadian sports program Hockey Night in Canada, and has also worked for ESPN in the United States as a commentator during the latter stages of the Stanley Cup playoffs. He is known for his outspoken manner, flamboyant dress, and staunch patriotism.
Prior to his broadcast career, Cherry was a professional hockey player and National Hockey League coach. He played one game with the Boston Bruins, and later coached them for 5 seasons, starting with Bobby Orr's final 93 games as a Bruin. He is also well known as an author, syndicated radio commentator for the Sportsnet Radio Network, creator of the Rock'em Sock'em Hockey video series, and celebrity endorser. Cherry was voted as the seventh greatest Canadian on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's television special, The Greatest Canadian. In March 2010, his life was dramatized in a two-part Canadian Broadcasting Corporation made-for-television movie, Keep Your Head Up, Kid: The Don Cherry Story, based on a script written by his son, Timothy Cherry. In March 2012 CBC aired a sequel, The Wrath of Grapes: The Don Cherry Story II.
Stuart Dempster (born July 7, 1936 in Berkeley, California) is a trombonist, didjeridu player, improvisor, and composer.
After Dempster completed his studies at San Francisco State College, he was appointed assistant professor at the California State College at Hayward, and instructor at the San Francisco Conservatory (1960–66). During this period he was also a member of the Performing Group at Mills College, and from 1962 to 1966 was first trombonist in the Oakland Symphony Orchestra. In 1967–68 he was a Creative Associate at the State University of New York at Buffalo under Lukas Foss. The following year he was appointed assistant professor at the University of Washington, in Seattle, where he was promoted to full professor in 1985. In 1971–72 he was a Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study at the University of Illinois, and in 1973 he was a senior Fulbright scholar to Australia (Tarr 2001). In 1979 the University of California Press published his book, The Modern Trombone: A Definition of Its Idioms. He received a Guggenheim Fellowship award in 1981.[citation needed]
John Davies Cale, OBE (born 9 March 1942) is a Welsh musician, composer, singer-songwriter and record producer who was a founding member of the experimental rock band The Velvet Underground.
Though best known for his work in rock music, Cale has worked in various genres including drone and classical. Since departing from the Velvet Underground in 1968 he has released approximately 30 albums. Of his solo work, Cale is perhaps best known for his album Paris 1919, and his cover version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", plus his mid-1970s Island Records trilogy of albums: Fear, Slow Dazzle, and Helen of Troy.
Cale has produced or collaborated with Lou Reed, Nico, La Monte Young, John Cage, Terry Riley, Cranes, Nick Drake, Mike Heron, Kevin Ayers, Brian Eno, Patti Smith, The Stooges, The Modern Lovers, Art Bergmann, Manic Street Preachers and frontman James Dean Bradfield, Marc Almond, Squeeze, Happy Mondays, LCD Soundsystem and Siouxsie and the Banshees.
John Cale was born 9 March 1942 in Garnant in the heavily industrial Amman Valley of Wales to Will Cale and Margaret Davies. His mother was a primary teacher and his father was a coal miner. Although Will only spoke English, Margaret brought John up to speak only Welsh. Being unable to speak the same language as his father naturally hindered their relationship. John finally began learning English around age seven at primary. Cale was molested by two different men during his childhood; one of the men was a priest, and the incident occurred in a church.

Dear lie
You suck
You said you could fix anything
Instead I'm fucked
You made things even worse for me
If I had balls I'd tell you get away from me
Guess I'm not smart
I let you unnerve me
I let you control me
Afraid the truth would hurt me
When it's you that hurts me more
Get outta my mouth
Get outta my head
Get outta my mind
Stop puttin' words in my head
Get outta my mouth
You're nothing but trouble
Get outta my life
Get out of me
Out of me (out of me)
Out of me
Out of me lie
Lie lie lie lie
Dear lie
You're dumb
You think you've got the best of me
You think you won
Misread my vulnerability
I've got your walls
Now get the hell away from me
I've learned your art
Won't let you unnerve me
Won't let you control me
The truth will only free me
And your lies won't hurt no
No more

Clannad - Magical Ring (1983)
Lookin' round and round again
That's me, oh that's me
Far away on my own again
A day goes by in Tower Hill
Silence sweet
Is there someone at the door?
Light is on, lit fire round
It's me, you're home
Blue and grey, and seas apart
Another night at Tower Hill
Silence sweet
Is there someone at the door?
Silence sweet
Silence sweet
Is there someone at the door?
Sit inline and count to ten
Still near, right here
Movin' round this empty room
I'm sorry now, at Tower Hill
Silence sweet
Is there someone at the door?
~~~
Tower Hill (the Bad Transcript version)
----------
Looking around and around again [no ";uh"; sounds!]
That's mean, oh that's mean [what exactly would be ";mean";?]
Far away on my own again
At Gagans Rye(?) and Tower Hill [you're kidding... ";Gagans Rye";?]
Silence sweet
Is there someone out there too? [in addition to who?]
Lies on on the twilight [Clannad does NOT use double-words]
It's me, you're home
Blue and grey, in season art [oh yeah, that's close... where's the ";P";?]
Another night at tower hill
Silence sweet
Is there someone out there too?
Silence sweet
Silence sweet
Is there someone out there too?
Stay in line and count to ten
Still here, right here
Moving round the center [center- what? center ";oom";? NO!]
I'm sorry now, at Tower Hill
Silence sweet
Is there someone out there too?
Lie Lie Lie Lie
Lie Lie
Paar kalte Winter nach dem Ende
paar lange Jahre mit leerem Bauch
und wie ein Phönix aus der Asche
hochgestiegen, aus dem Trümmerrauch
Ganz von vorne angefangen
alles geteilt was man besaß
und kräftig auf den Tisch gehaun
an dem man lange nicht mehr saß
Immer hungrig, auf der Suche
wie ein Panther, der auf der Lauer lag
bei deinem naiven Nachkriegscharme
wußte man noch, warum man dich mag
Du warst die Frau unserer Träume
als die Preise noch in Ordnung warn
hast ehrlich deine Haut getragen
doch jede Haut schabt ab nach Jahrn
Deutschland, ein Wintermärchen
du hast es weitgebracht
du hast die Liebe zu dir
unmodern gemacht
Hast deine Seele für Geld verkauft
im Stillen über den Deal gelacht
so kriegt man hungrige Herzen nicht satt
so kommt die Wahrheit in Verdacht
Bist weder verlorn, noch gerettet
willst immer Liebe um jeden Preis
um deine Haut lohnt nicht zu wetten
gibst nicht zu, was jeder weiß
Lebst weiter, wie man weiterlebt
wenn man nicht mehr zu retten ist
du bist so einsam, daß es donnert
hör auf zu sein, was du nicht mehr bist
Liebe ist was alle wollen
aber nicht mehr geboten kriegn
erlöse uns von diesem Übel
wir setzen neu und alles auf Grün
Deutschland, ein Wintermärchen
du hast es weitgebracht
du hast die Liebe zu dir
unmodern gemacht
Der Löwe schläft heut' Nacht
Wer hat dir da nur Angst gemacht ?
Pelikan und Nashorn schlafen schon ganz fest
Die Schlange hat sich eingerollt
Wüßt' nicht was sie sonst machen sollt'
Selbst der Alligator macht die Augen zu
All' die kleinen Käferchen
Halten brav ihr Schläferchen
Denn morgen gibt's so viel zu tun:
Gut' Nacht !
Die Sonne sagt: Auf Wiederseh'n
Auch im Urwald muß sie untergeh'n
Weil sonst der Mond nicht scheint
Und am Ende weint
Die Sterne funkeln blitzeblank
Am Himmel ohne Streit und Zank
Man sagt es war schon lang nicht so
Friedlich wie heut' Nacht
Die Blume macht die Blüte zu
Sie schläft schon
Nun schlaf' auch du
Denn morgen gibt's so viel zu tun:
Gut' Nacht
Der Löwe schläft heut' nacht,
wer hat Dir da nur Angst gemacht,
Pelikan und Nashorn, schlafen schon ganz fest,
die Schlange hat sich eingerollt,
wüsst' nicht was sie sonst machen sollt,
selbst der Alligator macht die Augen zu,
all die kleinen Käferchen halten brav ihr Schläferchen,
denn morgen gibts noch viel zu zun, gut' nacht
Die Sonne sagt "Auf wiedersehen", auch im Urwald muss sie untergeh'n,
weil sonst der Mond nicht scheint, und am Ende weint.
Die Sterne funkeln blitzeblank am Himmel ohne Streit und Zank,
man sagt es war schon lang' nicht so friedlich wie heute Nacht.
Die Blume macht die Blüte zu,
sie schläft schon, nun schlaf auch du,
denn morgen gibts so viel zu tun gut nacht
Der große Geist steigt aus den Fluten
von allen Seiten eingekreist
ein leises Zischen in der Luft
die Spitze bohrt sich in das Fleisch
Der Körper hebt sich aus dem Wasser
erst Kopf
dann Rumpf
dann taucht er ab
bald muß er hoch um Luft zu holen
er fühlt sich tausend Tonnen schwer
und schrecklich müde und so matt
Das Blut von innen ausgeblasen
wie roter Nebel auf dem Meer
die Kiefer schlagen aufeinander
als ob er brüllt: Ich kann nicht mehr
Schon viel zu schwach um abzutauchen
so schwimmt er schließlich nur im Kreis
erbricht den Tintenfisch
in großen Stücken
und wälzt sich langsam hin und her
weil er nicht mehr weiter weiß
Der sanfte Riese liegt im Sterben
das Blut versiegt und bald darauf
legt er sich langsam auf die Seite
und eine Flosse zeigt hinauf
Ich gäb was drum
wenn ich es wüßte
wenn ich bloß wüßte
was du spürst
wir haben uns noch nie gesehen
und doch weiß ich
was du mit deinem Schmerz
und deinem Tod
Dear Ella
Our Special First Lady of Song
You gave your best for so long
This is true
Dear Ella we're all so glad
you answered the call
For it is certain that your music
will always stand tall
your blessing to all
Dear Ella
The soul in your songs
and heart we can feel
such feeling, emotion
such beauty of phrase
each time
You brought joy to so many
with sounds of the music sublime
You started so early and
made it so fun
with hard work and talent
You became number one
With your bearing so regal
Your voice strong and true
You gave us a standard
met only by a few
Dear Ella
We'll always remember
your love and good will
We treasure the place
in our hearts that you fill
We love you
We thank you
for all that you are
Ella...in our hearts
You are a true
Shining star...
Dear Holly, have you seen the rain?
I am a ghost town, with seven empty lakes
And the times they are strange, they show no signs of change
I am cast down like the belly of a snake
No harvest, no kingdom come
One promise, again to never flood
Calm as the sea, on a day with no breeze
My tears have turned to blood
Backs folding, beneath all the lies
We need water to grow, and wine to die
And the reasons they are few, All my dreams came untrue
And my desire could not be satisfied
Time driftin', across seven blue seas
For strong winds, blow as they please
Under God's great sky, we ask for reasons why
We are all bound to have days like these
Dear Holly, can you feel the rain?
Or the soft breeze, gently to your face
Oh the times they are strange, they are bound to change
[Chorus 1:]
I'm gonna do Your will,
I'm gonna do Your will.
Gonna do what You say,
gonna do it Your way,
I'm gonna do Your will.
[Chorus 2:]
I'm gonna give You praise,
my hands I'll raise.
I'm gonna do what You say,
gonna do it Your way;
I'm gonna do Your will.
[Verse:]
Somebody said hush, but I couldn't hush.
They said sit down, but I couldn't sit down.
You see, it's just like fire shut up in my bone,
even if I tried, ya'll, it just would leave me alone.
Oh, no, because in my bones...
[Chorus 1]
[Verse]
