Plot
Marx Reloaded is a cultural documentary that examines the relevance of German socialist and philosopher Karl Marx's ideas for understanding the global economic and financial crisis of 2008-09. The crisis triggered the deepest global recession in 70 years and prompted the US government to spend more than 1 trillion dollars in order to rescue its banking system from collapse. Today the full implications of the crisis in Europe and around the world still remain unclear. Nevertheless, should we accept the crisis as an unfortunate side-effect of the free market? Or is there another explanation as to why it happened and its likely effects on our society, our economy and our whole way of life? Written and directed by Jason Barker - himself an experienced writer, lecturer, translator and doctor of philosophy - Marx Reloaded comprises interviews with the world's leading philosophers of Marxism, including those at the forefront of a popular revival in Marxist and communist ideas. The film also includes interviews with skeptics of this revival as well as light-hearted animation sequences which follow Marx's adventures through the matrix of his own ideas.

Plot

Plot
It is the year 3032AD and the United Earth Systems have been alerted to illegal worm-hole activities occurring on the Asteroid mining colony, Palermus IV. Chief Inspector Winnifred Whackerman and Lt. Julius Johnson are dispatched to investigate Commissar Lev Brownsteen who rules Palermus IV as a Communist dictatorship. As the investigation begins, Julius Johnson meets and becomes smitten with Natasha Pentupp, daughter of the wealthy Heiress and Matriarch of Palermus IV, Margaret Pentupp. Meanwhile, the Commissar prepares the colony for a guest speaker that he has acquired from the past.

Marx was a child of his time, the mid-nineteenth century, and Marxism was a characteristic nineteenth-century philosophy in that it claimed to be scientific. 'Scientific' was Marx's strongest expression of approval, which he habitually used to distinguish himself from his many enemies. He and his work were 'scientific'; they were not. He felt he had found a scientific explanation of human behaviour in history akin to Darwin's theory of evolution.

For a few years, in the 1860s and 1870s, he was again involved in revolutionary politics, running the International Working Men's Association. But most of his time in London, until his death on 14 March 1883 -- that is, thirty-four years -- was spent in the British Museum, finding material for a gigantic study of capital, and trying to get it into publishable shape. He saw one volume through the press (1867) but the second and third were compiled from his notes by his colleague Friedrich Engels and published after his death.
He began writing poetry as a boy, around two main themes: his love for the girl next door, Jenny von Westphalen, of Prussian -- Scotch descent, whom he married in 1841; and world destruction. He wrote a great deal of poetry, three manuscript volumes of which were sent to Jenny, were inherited by their daughter Laura and vanished after her death in 1911.
They were entitled 'Savage Songs', and savagery is a characteristic note of his verse, together with intense pessimism about the human condition, hatred, a fascination with corruption and violence, suicide pacts and pacts with the devil. 'We are chained, shattered, empty, frightened/ Eternally chained to this marble block of being,' wrote the young Marx , '... We are the apes of a cold God.' He has himself, in the person of God, say: 'I shall howl gigantic curses at mankind,' and below the surface of much of his poetry is the notion of a general world-crisis building up. 4 He was fond of quoting Mephistopheles' line from Goethe's Faust, 'Everything that exists deserves to perish';
He found it in his hatred of usury and moneylenders, a passionate feeling directly related (as we shall see) to his own money difficulties.

Marx was a child of his time, the mid-nineteenth century, and Marxism was a characteristic nineteenth-century philosophy in that it claimed to be scientific. 'Scientific' was Marx's strongest expression of approval, which he habitually used to distinguish himself from his many enemies. He and his work were 'scientific'; they were not. He felt he had found a scientific explanation of human behaviour in history akin to Darwin's theory of evolution.

For a few years, in the 1860s and 1870s, he was again involved in revolutionary politics, running the International Working Men's Association. But most of his time in London, until his death on 14 March 1883 -- that is, thirty-four years -- was spent in the British Museum, finding material for a gigantic study of capital, and trying to get it into publishable shape. He saw one volume through the press (1867) but the second and third were compiled from his notes by his colleague Friedrich Engels and published after his death.
He began writing poetry as a boy, around two main themes: his love for the girl next door, Jenny von Westphalen, of Prussian -- Scotch descent, whom he married in 1841; and world destruction. He wrote a great deal of poetry, three manuscript volumes of which were sent to Jenny, were inherited by their daughter Laura and vanished after her death in 1911.
They were entitled 'Savage Songs', and savagery is a characteristic note of his verse, together with intense pessimism about the human condition, hatred, a fascination with corruption and violence, suicide pacts and pacts with the devil. 'We are chained, shattered, empty, frightened/ Eternally chained to this marble block of being,' wrote the young Marx , '... We are the apes of a cold God.' He has himself, in the person of God, say: 'I shall howl gigantic curses at mankind,' and below the surface of much of his poetry is the notion of a general world-crisis building up. 4 He was fond of quoting Mephistopheles' line from Goethe's Faust, 'Everything that exists deserves to perish';
He found it in his hatred of usury and moneylenders, a passionate feeling directly related (as we shall see) to his own money difficulties.

It is hard to think of many who have had as much influence in the creation of the modern world. Trained as a philosopher, Marx turned away from philosophy in his mid-twenties, towards economics and politics. However, in addition to his overtly philosophical early work, his later writings have many points of contact with contemporary philosophical debates, especially in the philosophy of history and the social sciences, and in moral and political philosophy. Historical materialism — Marx's theory of history — is centered around the idea that forms of society rise and fall as they further and then impede the development of human productive power. Marx sees the historical process as proceeding through a necessary series of modes of production, characterized by class struggle, culminating in communism. Marx's economic analysis of capitalism is based on his version of the labour theory of value, and includes the analysis of capitalist profit as the extraction of surplus value from the exploited proletariat. The analysis of history and economics come together in Marx's prediction of the inevitable economic breakdown of capitalism, to be replaced by communism. However Marx refused to speculate in detail about the nature of communism, arguing that it would arise through historical processes, and was not the realisation of a pre-determined moral ideal.

Nun, das System ist der Kapitalismus und den Systemfehler benannte Karl Marx so: „Der letzte Grund aller wirklicher Krisen bleibt immer die Armut und Konsumtionsbeschränkung der Massen gegenüber dem Trieb der kapitalistischen Produktion, die Produktivkräfte so zu entwickeln, als ob nur die absolute Konsumtionsfähigkeit der Gesellschaft ihre Grenze bildet."
Die Unternehmen werden immer mehr produzieren (zumal unter den Bedingungen eines globalisierten Weltmarktes) als wir jemals kaufen und verbrauchen (d.h. konsumieren) können -- genau darin besteht der Systemfehler, das ist die Kernaussage von Marx. Weil die Gesundbeter diesen Zusammenhang nicht verstehen oder nicht zugeben wollen/können, taugen auch ihre Rezepte zur Krisenbewältigung nichts. Deshalb, weil der Fehler im System angelegt ist, nicht durch Managerfehler oder nur die ungerechte Verteilung von Reichtum entsteht, wird aus einer Überproduktion bei gleichzeitiger zu geringer Konsumtion periodisch, regelmäßig alle paar Jahre wieder, eine Wirtschaftskrise. Weil dies keine Krise ist, die von den böswilligen Konsumenten verursacht wird, gab ihr Marx den Namen „Überproduktionskrise". Die seit Herbst 2008 ausgebrochene Krise beinhaltet auch Elemente einer Überproduktionskrise (sogen. Krise der Realwirtschaft), hat aber ganz eigene, zum Teil neuartige Ursachen, weshalb sie zu Recht als Finanzkrise bezeichnet wird.
Was passiert, wenn jemand auf die "raffgierige" Idee kommt, mit diesen Zahlungsversprechen selbst zu handeln? Also sie zu verkaufen, sie zu beleihen, sie zu horten etc., um davon noch mehr Zinsen zu bekommen? Dann sind wir in der modernen Kreditwirtschaft und nun wird es gefährlich, wie uns Marx wissen lässt: "Mit der Entwicklung des zinstragenden Kapitals und des Kreditsystems scheint sich alles Kapital zu verdoppeln und stellenweise zu verdreifachen, durch die verschiedene Weise, worin dasselbe Kapital oder auch nur dieselbe Schuldforderung in verschiedenen Händen unter verschiednen Formen erscheint. Der größte Teil dieses „Geldkapitals" ist rein fiktiv."
Wenn sich der Handel mit diesen verdoppelten und verdreifachten Zahlungsversprechen spekulativ ausweitet, entsteht ein immer größeres fiktives Kapital. Da aber letztendlich gilt, daß die Summe aller (Geld-)Werte mit der Summe aller Waren gleich sein muss, (was bedeutet, dass man zu jeder Zeit jedes Geld in eine Ware (Dienstleistung) umtauschen können muss), ist dieses fiktive Kapital eine tickende Zeitbombe. Es geht alles solange gut, wie keiner ernsthaft nachfragt (ernsthaft bedeutet in diesem Zusammenhang, dass jemand seine Papierschnipsel in irgend etwas Reales eintauschen will). Wenn das nämlich zu Viele gleichzeitig machen (wie z.B. am Beginn einer zyklischen Überproduktionskrise, wo alle Angst um ihren Besitz bekommen und in Panik alles verkaufen, um in reale Werte wie Gold oder Grund zu investieren, oder weil sie schlicht Geld brauchen), dann wird es kritisch. Dann zeigt sich, wie im Märchen, das der Kaiser nackt ist, das fiktive tatsächlich eine Fiktion war, oder neudeutsch die "Blase platzt", weil tatsächlich das verdoppelte und verdreifachte eigentlich nur einmal da war!

Nun, das System ist der Kapitalismus und den Systemfehler benannte Karl Marx so: „Der letzte Grund aller wirklicher Krisen bleibt immer die Armut und Konsumtionsbeschränkung der Massen gegenüber dem Trieb der kapitalistischen Produktion, die Produktivkräfte so zu entwickeln, als ob nur die absolute Konsumtionsfähigkeit der Gesellschaft ihre Grenze bildet."
Die Unternehmen werden immer mehr produzieren (zumal unter den Bedingungen eines globalisierten Weltmarktes) als wir jemals kaufen und verbrauchen (d.h. konsumieren) können -- genau darin besteht der Systemfehler, das ist die Kernaussage von Marx. Weil die Gesundbeter diesen Zusammenhang nicht verstehen oder nicht zugeben wollen/können, taugen auch ihre Rezepte zur Krisenbewältigung nichts. Deshalb, weil der Fehler im System angelegt ist, nicht durch Managerfehler oder nur die ungerechte Verteilung von Reichtum entsteht, wird aus einer Überproduktion bei gleichzeitiger zu geringer Konsumtion periodisch, regelmäßig alle paar Jahre wieder, eine Wirtschaftskrise. Weil dies keine Krise ist, die von den böswilligen Konsumenten verursacht wird, gab ihr Marx den Namen „Überproduktionskrise". Die seit Herbst 2008 ausgebrochene Krise beinhaltet auch Elemente einer Überproduktionskrise (sogen. Krise der Realwirtschaft), hat aber ganz eigene, zum Teil neuartige Ursachen, weshalb sie zu Recht als Finanzkrise bezeichnet wird.
Was passiert, wenn jemand auf die "raffgierige" Idee kommt, mit diesen Zahlungsversprechen selbst zu handeln? Also sie zu verkaufen, sie zu beleihen, sie zu horten etc., um davon noch mehr Zinsen zu bekommen? Dann sind wir in der modernen Kreditwirtschaft und nun wird es gefährlich, wie uns Marx wissen lässt: "Mit der Entwicklung des zinstragenden Kapitals und des Kreditsystems scheint sich alles Kapital zu verdoppeln und stellenweise zu verdreifachen, durch die verschiedene Weise, worin dasselbe Kapital oder auch nur dieselbe Schuldforderung in verschiedenen Händen unter verschiednen Formen erscheint. Der größte Teil dieses „Geldkapitals" ist rein fiktiv."
Wenn sich der Handel mit diesen verdoppelten und verdreifachten Zahlungsversprechen spekulativ ausweitet, entsteht ein immer größeres fiktives Kapital. Da aber letztendlich gilt, daß die Summe aller (Geld-)Werte mit der Summe aller Waren gleich sein muss, (was bedeutet, dass man zu jeder Zeit jedes Geld in eine Ware (Dienstleistung) umtauschen können muss), ist dieses fiktive Kapital eine tickende Zeitbombe. Es geht alles solange gut, wie keiner ernsthaft nachfragt (ernsthaft bedeutet in diesem Zusammenhang, dass jemand seine Papierschnipsel in irgend etwas Reales eintauschen will). Wenn das nämlich zu Viele gleichzeitig machen (wie z.B. am Beginn einer zyklischen Überproduktionskrise, wo alle Angst um ihren Besitz bekommen und in Panik alles verkaufen, um in reale Werte wie Gold oder Grund zu investieren, oder weil sie schlicht Geld brauchen), dann wird es kritisch. Dann zeigt sich, wie im Märchen, das der Kaiser nackt ist, das fiktive tatsächlich eine Fiktion war, oder neudeutsch die "Blase platzt", weil tatsächlich das verdoppelte und verdreifachte eigentlich nur einmal da war!

He formally established the academic discipline and, with Karl Marx and Max Weber, is commonly cited as the principal architect of modern social science and father of sociology.

'Scientific' was Marx's strongest expression of approval, which he habitually used to distinguish himself from his many enemies. He and his work were 'scientific'; they were not. He felt he had found a scientific explanation of human behaviour in history akin to Darwin's theory of evolution. For a few years, in the 1860s and 1870s, he was again involved in revolutionary politics, running the International Working Men's Association. But most of his time in London, until his death on 14 March 1883 -- that is, thirty-four years -- was spent in the British Museum, finding material for a gigantic study of capital, and trying to get it into publishable shape. He saw one volume through the press (1867) but the second and third were compiled from his notes by his colleague Friedrich Engels and published after his death. He began writing poetry as a boy, around two main themes: his love for the girl next door, Jenny von Westphalen, of Prussian -- Scotch descent, whom he married in 1841; and world destruction. He wrote a great deal of poetry, three manuscript volumes of which were sent to Jenny, were inherited by their daughter Laura and vanished after her death in 1911. They were entitled 'Savage Songs', and savagery is a characteristic note of his verse, together with intense pessimism about the human condition, hatred, a fascination with corruption and violence, suicide pacts and pacts with the devil. 'We are chained, shattered, empty, frightened/ Eternally chained to this marble block of being,' wrote the young Marx , '... We are the apes of a cold God.' He has himself, in the person of God, say: 'I shall howl gigantic curses at mankind,' and below the surface of much of his poetry is the notion of a general world-crisis building up. 4 He was fond of quoting Mephistopheles' line from Goethe's Faust, 'Everything that exists deserves to perish'; He found it in his hatred of usury and moneylenders, a passionate feeling directly related (as we shall see) to his own money difficulties. Hegel's followers were all in varying degrees anti-Semitic, and in 1843 Bruno Bauer, the anti-Semitic leader of the Hegelian left, published an essay demanding that the Jews abandon Judaism completely. Marx's essays were a reply to this. He did not object to Bauer's anti-Semitism; indeed he shared it, endorsed it and quoted it with approval. But he disagreed with Bauer's solution. Marx rejected Bauer's belief that the anti-social nature of the Jew was religious in origin and could be remedied by tearing the Jew away from his faith. In Marx's opinion, the evil was social and economic. He wrote: 'Let us consider the real Jew. Not the Sabbath Jew ... but the everyday Jew.' What , he asked, was 'the profane basis of Judaism? Practical need, self-interest. What is the worldly cult of the Jew? Huckstering. What is his worldly god? Money.' Kommentatoren, Politiker aller Richtungen, sogar der Chefwirtschafts"weise" des Münchener ifo-Instituts sprachen im Zusammenhang mit der gegenwärtigen Krise davon, das es sich eventuell nicht um die Folgen des fehlerhaften Wirkens Einzelner, z.B. von (gierigen) Managern handelt, sondern um einen „Fehler im System"; neulich sagte ein angesehener bayerischer Prof. für Staatsphilosophie im Fernsehen sogar, es sei nicht ausgeschlossen, dass „das System als Ganzes abschmiert". Nun, das System ist der Kapitalismus und den Systemfehler benannte Karl Marx so: „Der letzte Grund aller wirklicher Krisen bleibt immer die Armut und Konsumtionsbeschränkung der Massen gegenüber dem Trieb der kapitalistischen Produktion, die Produktivkräfte so zu entwickeln, als ob nur die absolute Konsumtionsfähigkeit der Gesellschaft ihre Grenze bildet." Die Unternehmen werden immer mehr produzieren (zumal unter den Bedingungen eines globalisierten Weltmarktes) als wir jemals kaufen und verbrauchen (d.h. konsumieren) können -- genau darin besteht der Systemfehler, das ist die Kernaussage von Marx. Weil die Gesundbeter diesen Zusammenhang nicht verstehen oder nicht zugeben wollen/können, taugen auch ihre Rezepte zur Krisenbewältigung nichts. Deshalb, weil der Fehler im System angelegt ist, nicht durch Managerfehler oder nur die ungerechte Verteilung von Reichtum entsteht, wird aus einer Überproduktion bei gleichzeitiger zu geringer Konsumtion periodisch, regelmäßig alle paar Jahre wieder, eine Wirtschaftskrise. Weil dies keine Krise ist, die von den böswilligen Konsumenten verursacht wird, gab ihr Marx den Namen „Überproduktionskrise". Die seit Herbst 2008 ausgebrochene Krise beinhaltet auch Elemente einer Überproduktionskrise (sogen. Krise der Realwirtschaft), hat aber ganz eigene, zum Teil neuartige Ursachen, weshalb sie zu Recht als Finanzkrise bezeichnet wird. Was passiert, wenn jemand auf die "raffgierige" Idee kommt, mit diesen Zahlungsversprechen selbst zu handeln? Also sie zu verkaufen, sie zu beleihen, sie zu horten etc., um davon noch mehr Zinsen zu bekommen? Dann sind wir in der modernen Kreditwirtschaft und nun wird es gefährlich, wie uns Marx wissen lässt: "Mit der Entwicklung des zinstragenden Kapitals und des Kreditsystems scheint sich alles Kapital zu verdoppeln und stellenweise zu verdreifachen, durch die verschiedene Weise, worin dasselbe Kapital oder auch nur dieselbe Schuldforderung in verschiedenen Händen unter verschiednen Formen erscheint. Der größte Teil dieses „Geldkapitals" ist rein fiktiv." Wenn sich der Handel mit diesen verdoppelten und verdreifachten Zahlungsversprechen spekulativ ausweitet, entsteht ein immer größeres fiktives Kapital. Da aber letztendlich gilt, daß die Summe aller (Geld-)Werte mit der Summe aller Waren gleich sein muss, (was bedeutet, dass man zu jeder Zeit jedes Geld in eine Ware (Dienstleistung) umtauschen können muss), ist dieses fiktive Kapital eine tickende Zeitbombe. Es geht alles solange gut, wie keiner ernsthaft nachfragt (ernsthaft bedeutet in diesem Zusammenhang, dass jemand seine Papierschnipsel in irgend etwas Reales eintauschen will). Wenn das nämlich zu Viele gleichzeitig machen (wie z.B. am Beginn einer zyklischen Überproduktionskrise, wo alle Angst um ihren Besitz bekommen und in Panik alles verkaufen, um in reale Werte wie Gold oder Grund zu investieren, oder weil sie schlicht Geld brauchen), dann wird es kritisch. Dann zeigt sich, wie im Märchen, das der Kaiser nackt ist, das fiktive tatsächlich eine Fiktion war, oder neudeutsch die "Blase platzt", weil tatsächlich das verdoppelte und verdreifachte eigentlich nur einmal da war!- published: 30 Nov 2013

Con "Il marxismo militante di Raniero Panzieri", appena pubblicato dal Centro di Documentazione di Pistoia, il torinese Cesare Pianciola, studioso di Karl Marx e di Norberto Bobbio, di Hannah Arendt e dell'esistenzialismo, fa riemergere opportunamente il pensiero del fondatore della rivista "Quaderni rossi", che fu una delle fucine della nuova sinistra degli anni Sessanta. Il libro su Panzieri, scomparso prematuramente cinquant'anni fa, a soli 43 anni, ripropone in un'epoca di desolazione culturale e politica come la nostra la figura di un intellettuale in cui teoria e prassi, alla luce di un Marx liberato dallo stalinismo e dalla socialdemocrazia, e riletto soprattutto in una chiave sociologica di classe, si fondevano nella lotta per un socialismo molto diverso da quello autoritario che si era affermato in Urss e nell'Est Europa. Émile Durkheim
David Émile Durkheim (French: [emil dyʁkɛm] or [dyʁkajm]; April 15, 1858 – November 15, 1917) was a French sociologist, social psychologist and philosopher. He formally established the academic discipline and, with Karl Marx and Max Weber, is commonly cited as the principal architect of modern social science and father of sociology. Much of Durkheim's work was concerned with how societies could maintain their integrity and coherence in modernity; an era in which traditional social and religious ties are no longer assumed, and in which new social institutions have come into being. His first major sociological work was The Division of Labour in Society (1893). In 1895, he published The Rules of Sociological Method and set up the first European department of sociology, becoming France's first professor of sociology. In 1898, he established the journal L'Année Sociologique. Durkheim's seminal monograph, Suicide (1897), a study of suicide rates in Catholic and Protestant populations, pioneered modern social research and served to distinguish social science from psychology and political philosophy. Karl Marx meaning and pronunciation
Karl Marx was a German philosopher, political economist, historian, political theorist, sociologist, communist, and revolutionary whose ideas are credited as the foundation of modern communism. Marx summarized his approach in the first line of chapter one of The Communist Manifesto, published in 1848: “The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles.” He believed that the roots of human misery lay in class conflict, the exploitation of workers by those who own the means of production. Social change, in the form of the overthrow of the capitalists by the workers (proletariat), was inevitable from Marx’s outlook. Although Marx did not consider himself as a sociologist, his ideas have influenced many sociologists today, especially conflict theorists. A deadly amoeba that can destroy brain tissue has been found in the water supply of several towns in southeast Louisiana. One takeaway is that I have too little time for reading and reflection ... Karl Heinrich Marx (5 May 1818 – 14 March 1883) was a German philosopher, economist, sociologist, historian, journalist, and revolutionary socialist. His ideas played a significant role in the development of social science and the socialist political movement. He published various books during his lifetime, with the most notable being The Communist Manifesto (1848) and Capital (1867–1894); some of his works were co-written with his friend and fellow German revolutionary socialist, Friedrich Engels.
Born into a wealthy middle class family in Trier, formerly in Prussian Rhineland now called Rhineland-Palatinate, Marx studied at both the University of Bonn and the University of Berlin, where he became interested in the philosophical ideas of the Young Hegelians. In 1836, he became engaged to Jenny von Westphalen, marrying her in 1843. After his studies, he wrote for a radical newspaper in Cologne, and began to work out his theory of dialectical materialism. Moving to Paris in 1843, he began writing for other radical newspapers. He met Engels in Paris, and the two men worked together on a series of books. Exiled to Brussels, he became a leading figure of the Communist League, before moving back to Cologne, where he founded his own newspaper. In 1849 he was exiled again and moved to London together with his wife and children. In London, where the family was reduced to poverty, Marx continued writing and formulating his theories about the nature of society and how he believed it could be improved, and also campaigned for socialism—he became a significant figure in the International Workingmen's Association.

Adam Smith (baptised 16 June 1723 – 17 July 1790 [OS: 5 June 1723 – 17 July 1790]) was a Scottish social philosopher and a pioneer of political economy. One of the key figures of the Scottish Enlightenment, Smith is the author of The Principles Which Lead and Direct Philosophical Enquiries, Illustrated by the History of Astronomy, prior to 1758, The Theory of Moral Sentiments, 1759, and An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations, 1776. The latter, usually abbreviated as The Wealth of Nations, is considered his magnum opus and the first modern work of economics. It earned him an enormous reputation and would become one of the most influential works ever published. Smith is widely cited as the father of modern economics and capitalism and is still among the most influential thinkers in the field of economics today. In 2009, Smith was named among the 'Greatest Scots' of all time, in a vote run by Scottish television channel STV.
Smith studied social philosophy at the University of Glasgow and at Balliol College in the University of Oxford, where he was one of the first students to benefit from scholarships set up by his fellow Glaswegian John Snell. After graduating, he delivered a successful series of public lectures at Edinburgh, leading him to collaborate with David Hume during the Scottish Enlightenment. Smith obtained a professorship at Glasgow teaching moral philosophy, and during this time he wrote and published The Theory of Moral Sentiments. In his later life, he took a tutoring position that allowed him to travel throughout Europe, where he met other intellectual leaders of his day. Smith then returned home and spent the next ten years writing The Wealth of Nations, publishing it in 1776. He died in 1790 at the age of 67.

Friedrich Engels (German pronunciation: [ˈfʁiːdʁɪç ˈɛŋəls]; 28 November 1820 – 5 August 1895) was a German-English industrialist, social scientist, author, political theorist, philosopher, and father of Marxist theory, alongside Karl Marx. In 1845 he published The Condition of the Working Class in England, based on personal observations and research. In 1848 he co-authored The Communist Manifesto with Karl Marx, and later he supported Marx financially to do research and write Das Kapital. After Marx's death Engels edited the second and third volumes. Additionally, Engels organized Marx's notes on the "Theories of Surplus Value" and this was later published as the "fourth volume" of Capital.
Friedrich (Frederick) Engels was born on November 28, 1820 in Barmen, Prussia (now Wuppertal, Germany). At the time, Barmen was an expanding industrial metropole and Frederick was the eldest son of a wealthy German cotton manufacturer. As his father, Friederich Sr., was a Methodist. Accordingly, Fredrick was raised Christian Pietist. As he grew up, his relationship with his parents became strained because of his atheist beliefs. Parental disapproval of his revolutionary activities is recorded in an October, 1848 letter from his mother, Elizabeth Engels. In this letter his mother berates him for having "really gone too far" and "begged" him "to proceed no further.". "You have paid more heed to other people, to strangers, and have taken no account of your mother's pleas. God alone knows what I have felt and suffered of late. I was trembling when I picked up the newspaper and saw therein that a warrant was out for my son's arrest." At the point this letter was written Frederick Engels was in hiding in Brussels, Belgium and was soon to make his way to Switzerland and then in 1849 make his way back into Germany to participate in the revolutionary uprising in Baden and Palatinate.

Herman, an analysis articulating the propaganda model theory for examining the media.
According to the Arts and Humanities Citation Index in 1992, Chomsky was cited as a source more often than any other living scholar from 1980 to 1992, and was the eighth most cited source overall. Chomsky is the author of over 100 books. He is credited as the creator or co-creator of the Chomsky hierarchy, the universal grammar theory, and the Chomsky–Schützenberger theorem.
