The power of the Psalter - Chanted by Valaam monks in Church Slavonic
The Psalter is an exceedingly powerful weapon against satan. When you read the Psalter by day continually, all your problems will vanish like snow before the sun. "Greensleeves" on Bowed Psaltery
In 1973, I got my first Bowed Psaltery and played this tune in a week, I was so excited! Dave Lucas, "Dave's Psalteries" built me this Bowed Psaltery. The most ancient stringed musical instrument was one single string tuned to a note, the Monochord. Where and when a monochord was first played upon by dragging a rosined stick or horse hair bow across it is lost in the mists of time. Any early version of the Bowed Psaltery would probably have had a scale of strings available to be plucked as well as bowed. In Europe in the 1800's it developed into the Violin-Zither which has chordally arranged strum strings as well as individually bowed strings. The modern chromatic Bowed Psaltery using modern metal strings is gaining in popularity around the world. "Psaltery Strings" is the web site for th...

The power of the Psalter - Chanted by Valaam monks in Church Slavonic
The Psalter is an exceedingly powerful weapon against satan. When you read the Psalter by day continually, all your problems will vanish like snow before the sun. When you read the Psalter at night, you can help your deceased loved ones, if they are not in Heaven, to climb up to Heaven, and eventually be in Heaven, through your Psalter readings.
And of course, do all the other basic things an Orthodox Christian is supposed to do. Such as: go to church every Sunday and every Feast day, pray in the morning, and before going to bed, pray before eating, or any other activity, confess, take the Holy communion, etc.
Being an Orthodox Christian is not a formality, meaning that you don't have to do all the listed things above, but it is the fastest way to grow spiritually. Orthodox Christianity is not a competition. It is a way of life because you have the need to, not because you are forced. That would be very wrong. You should do it, because of the love you have for Christ and don't want to see Him sad because of your sin.
Saint Bishop Nikolai Velimirovich said that the Psalter is the book of consolation. So if you are sad for whatever reason, read the Psalter and God will give you peace and consolation.
Also an important note: It is not necessary to understand the Psalter at first. Even if you think it's boring, or that you have no time, make time and read it, or listen to it in this video in Church Slavonic. If you don't understand the words it is not important, because your soul will recognize the power and love of God our Creator through this chanting.
Church Slavonic is an immensely powerful language because it is an ancient language that was used only in the Orthodox Christian Church (by Slavic nations), and still is. Which means it is the language of glorifying God. The language has no swear words. It is an exceptionally strong language not only for the Slavic people but for the whole world, because of the meekness, love, and glory to God it shows through the words.
Church Slavonic is still used in Orthodox Christian (Slavic) Churches, but not out of the Church. Church Slavonic is not taught in schools, so the Slavic people actually don't fully understand the language at first (if they don't go to church from an early age). You can only learn it by reading an ancient Bible, the Psalter, and ancient scriptures of the Holy Fathers in Church Slavonic, or by listening to it repeatedly what the nuns and monks chant.
To this day, a lot of people don't know this secret or don't believe in it, but when they get in trouble... Let's say someone gets possessed by a demon. The fastest way (not the only way) to cast him out is through the prayers in Church Slavonic, because the language is concentrated on glorifying God the Almighty and doesn't have swear words, which means a lot. That way the Psalter is burning the devil and he cannot take it, so he disappears. At the same time, you draw the attention of God and all his angels, and saints and you can feel His love and presence even if you can't see Him. It is really a magical feeling of unconditional love, consolation, and peace at the same time.
So I highly recommend reading the Psalter or listening to the Chants of the Psalter in Church Slavonic. May God bless you.

"Psaltery Strings" is the web site for the world wide Bowed Psaltery community.
