The Ducal Castle in Szczecin, Poland, was the seat of the dukes of Pomerania-Stettin of the House of Pomerania (Griffins), who ruled the Duchy of Pomerania from 1121 to 1637. Barnim the Great of Pomerania-Stettin erected the castle within Szczecin's walls against the will of the burghers in 1346. An older Pomeranian burgh had been leveled in 1249. In 1490 the castle was partially reconstructed for Bogusław X's wedding with Anna Jagiellonka (daughter of king Casimir IV Jagiellon). Between 1573−1582 the castle was rebuilt again, this time in the mannerist style for duke John Frederick by Italian stonemasons according to design by Wilhelm Zachariasz Italus. Two new wings were added to close the courtyard before the medieval southern and eastern wings. The main gate was adorned with ducal crest, the eastern wing was enhanced and the northern wing was intended for chapel. In 1648, due to the tenets of the Peace of Westphalia, the castle become a seat of Swedish governor. Before 1705 another reconstruction occurred to prepare the castle for Queen of Poland - Catherine Opalińska, who lived here with her daughters Anna and Marie Leszczyńska (future Queen of France) and a small court between 1705-1711. In 1711 king Stanisław Leszczyński, who sought refuge before chasing him Saxon and Russian forces, joined his wife and daughters at the castle. After the Great Northern War, in 1720, the city of Szczecin become a Prussian property and the castle was allocated to the garrison commander Christian August, Prince of Anhalt-Zerbst, whose daughter was Sophie Friederike Auguste (future Catherine II of Russia).[5] Under Prussian rule in the 19th century many renaissanse elements in the castle were devastated (arcades, attics, vaulting). Eventually about 60% of the castle was destroyed during World War II (August 1944).[5] Shortly after the war between 1958--1980, it was rebuilt with some modifications. The castle was restored to its original 16th century appearance according to 1653 engraving by Matthäus Merian (among others).

Podsumowując: sześciu uczestników, sześć rowerów, siedem dni, osiemnaście latarni, cztery gumy, dwie gleby i przejechanych prawie siedemset kilometrów. Dziękujemy za uwagę! :)

Footage taken in and around the Northern Polish City of Gdańsk on the Baltic Coast, in Pomerania in Poland. Gdańsk is Poland's principal seaport as well as the capital of the Pomeranian Voivodeship. It is also historically the largest city of the Kashubian region. The city is close to the former late medieval/modern boundary between West Slavic and Germanic lands and it has a complex political history with periods of Polish rule, periods of German rule, and extensive self-rule, with two spells as a free city. It has been part of modern Poland since 1945. Gdańsk is situated at the mouth of the Motława River, connected to the Leniwka, a branch in the delta of the nearby Vistula River, whose waterway system supplies 60% of the area of Poland and connects Gdańsk to the national capital in Warsaw. This gives the city a unique advantage as the center of Poland's sea trade. Together with the nearby port of Gdynia, Gdańsk is also an important industrial center. Historically an important seaport and shipbuilding center, Gdańsk was a member of the Hanseatic League. The city was the birthplace of the Solidarity movement which, under the leadership of political activist Lech Wałęsa, played a major role in bringing an end to Communist rule across Central Europe. This video includes aerial footage of the city of Gdańsk, as well s views from walks around the city centre and old town, including the main railway station and rivers. Identified locations include the following: Motława River, Długi Targ, Long Market, Gdańsk City Hall, Neptune Fountain, Golden Gate, the old Prison, Targ Węglowy, Elżbiatańska, Jan Sobieski III statue, Radunia River, Wały Jagiellońskie, Gdańsk Główny, Radunia Canal, Rybackie Pobrzeże, Swiętojańska, the wooden crane, Mariacka, St. Mary's Church and Piwna.

Come with me on a journey to find the best beaches in Florianopolis! See http://www.tourist2townie.com for a map of all the beaches and a detailed Florianopolis Travel Guide. - FOLLOW ALL THE ADVENTURES - Web - http://www.tourist2townie.com Instagram - http://www.instagram.com/tourist2townie Twitter - http://www.twitter.com/tourist2townie Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/tourist2townie I spent 48 hours on the beautiful island of Floripa and made it my mission to experience as many of the 42 beaches as possible. Thanks to the guidance and advice of local friends, I can definitely say, without reservation, that I found paradise. Best Beaches of Florianopolis: Campeche Beach - One of the widest and longest stretching beaches in Florianopolis. Joaquina Beach - Famous for its big sand dunes and surfing breaks, Joaquina has long been the most popular beach in Floripa. Mole Beach - In recent years, Mole beach is taking over Joaquina's thrown as the ultimate hot spot for the young, cool crowd. Come here to surf or hangout and stay for the beautiful women of Floripa! Jureré / Jureré Internacional - This part of the island is dedicated to the rich and famous. Huge homes, beautiful beach and lots of money to go around. There is also a really cool fort close to Jureré Internacional that you should check out while you're in the area. Santinho Beach - Off the beaten path and a little bit of a task getting there, Santinho is a great spot to escape the crowds. Although there's a big resort on one end of the beach, if you time it right you'll have more than enough space to enjoy the beauty of rolling green hills crashing down into the ocean. Lagoinha do Leste - Absolute paradise. As you saw from the video, it takes a little while to get there, but that makes it all the better. Come during high season and you'll have to share the space with surfers... a small price to pay for perfection. - MUSIC - "Somewhere Over The Rainbow (Thomas Jack Remix)" - Soundcloud.cm/thomasjackmusic "Bad" - David Guetta ft. One thing I love about European travel is discovering places I never knew existed and had never even considered visiting after a lifetime of exploring Europe. Malbork Castle in Pomerania (north of Warsaw in Poland) is a good example. This biggest brick castle in the world and the largest castle of the Gothic period is one of Europe’s most imposing fortresses. We include it in the Poland section of our Eastern Europe guidebook, and I enjoyed visiting with my local guide to update the material for next year’s edition. Here’s a quick little video clip on a huge and historic heap of Polish bricks. More information about travel to Poland: https://www.ricksteves.com/europe/poland

Warsaw is Poland's largest city and an economic, political, and cultural centre. It's a bustling metropolis harbouring an unforgettable history and today offers parkland as well as a city full of culture - you will find historic palaces and churches amongst modern architecture, while cosy cafes compete with fashionable clubs. The city's history itself is believed to have begun with the creation and development of Old Warsaw (Stara Warszawa), which was set on what is today known as the Old Town (Stare Miasto). Mazovian Prince Bolesław II brought prosperous traders to the Old Town, and his headquarters were based there. Warsaw is also known for its famous musical resident, Fryderyk Chopin, who for the first half of his 39 years, was associated with Warsaw. It was in Warsaw that he studied music, where he was formally educated, and where his heart found its final resting place. The last time Chopin played a concert in Warsaw was in October of 1830, at the National Theatre. He died on October 17, 1849 and was buried at the Père Lachaise cemetery in Paris. His heart, however, came back to Warsaw -- it was his most fervent desire to have his heart buried in Warsaw -- and it now lies in the Holy Cross Church (kościół św. Krzyża) on Krakowskie Przedmieście Street. Poland Tourism http://www.poland.travel/en-gb/ When visiting Warsaw, check out the following places: Łazienki Królewskie Park-Palace Complex: The park and palace complex at Łazienki is one of the most beautiful of this type in Europe. Established in the 17th century, the landscape gardens feature many interesting architectural monuments, especially the Palace on the Island built for King Stanislaw August Poniatowski -- Poland's last monarch. It served as his summer residence and was famous for the Thursday dinners. Wilanów Park-Palace Complex: The summer residence of King Jan III Sobieski and then Augustus II as well as subsequent aristocratic families. It stands as an excellent representation of European Baroque at its height and a homage to the former greatness of the Republic. The palace is surrounded by a grandiose, two level Baroque Italian garden and a romantic park in an English style. Wilanów is the venue of important cultural events and concerts. The former stables house the Poster Museum. Palace of Culture and Science: Completed in 1955 as a 'gift from the Soviet people', the building is the embodiment of Socialist Realist architecture. It is still the tallest building in Poland and fulfils the role of a cultural centre accommodating theatres, museums, a cinema and a concert hall. The highest viewing platform in Warsaw, on the 30th foor, offers an excellent panoramic view of the city. Warsaw Rising Museum: Opened in 2004, on the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising, the museum pays tribute to all those who fought and died for their country's independence. Housed in a former tramway power station, the modern museum guides visitors through interactive displays, video footage and photographs. National Museum: The museum contains a rich collection of exhibits from antiquity to modern times. The building originates from the inter-war period. During the World War II it secretly stored some of the Royal Castle treasures. It organizes numerous temporary exhibitions presenting art from all over the world. The Vistula-side building wing is the Museum of the Polish Army presenting the history of Polish military featuring an interesting outdoor exhibition. Warsaw Zoological Garden: Established in 1928, the garden is now inhabited by several thousand animals, yet the real personalities of the Warsaw Zoo are the brown bears whose area is located outside the garden, near Solidarności Avenue, and can be viewed by passers-by. University of Warsaw Library: The facade of the building, which resembles a line of open books, is one of the most interesting examples of contemporary architecture in Warsaw. The roof garden is open to the public. Places related to Fryderyk Chopin: Fryderyk Chopin is undoubtedly the best known resident of Warsaw. He spent the first 20 years of his life in the city. Here he studied music, learned the manners of society and gave his first concerts. Walking the streets of Warsaw you will pass buildings where he stayed or which he visited. There are many places which are a homage paid to his talent and Warsaw boasts the world's largest Chopin memorabilia collection. Pomerania - Polish: Pomorze, Kashubian: Pòmòrze or Pòmòrskô, (German: Pommern, Latin: Pomerania or Pomorania) is a historical region on the south shore of the Baltic Sea. Divided between Germany and Poland, it stretches roughly from the Recknitz River near Stralsund in the West, via the Oder River delta near Szczecin, to the mouth of the Vistula River near Gdańsk in the East. Pomerania was strongly affected by 20th century, post-World War I and II border and population shifts.
Pomerania belongs to the lowlands of the North European Plain. Outside its few urban centers − most notably the Szczecin and Tricity metropolitan areas − the poor soil is mostly used as farmland, dotted with numerous lakes, forests, and small towns. Agriculture primarily consists of raising livestock, forestry, fishery and the cultivation of cereals, sugar beets, and potatoes. Since the late 19th century, tourism has become an important sector of the economy, primarily in the numerous seaside resorts along the coast. Of the limited industrial zones, the most important products are ships, metal products, refined sugar, and paper.
Swedish Pomerania (Swedish: Svenska Pommern; German: Schwedisch-Pommern) was a Dominion under the Swedish Crown from 1630 to 1815, situated on what is now the Baltic coast of Germany and Poland. Following the Polish War and the Thirty Years' War, Sweden held extensive control over the lands on the southern Baltic coast, including Pomerania and parts of Livonia and Prussia (dominium maris baltici).
Sweden, present in Pomerania with a garrison at Stralsund since 1628, had gained effective control of the Duchy of Pomerania with the Treaty of Stettin in 1630. At the Peace of Westphalia in 1648 and the Treaty of Stettin in 1653, Sweden received Western Pomerania, or Vorpommern with the islands of Rügen, Usedom, and Wolin, and a strip of Eastern Pomerania, or Hinterpommern. The peace treaties were negotiated while the Swedish queen Christina was a minor, and the Swedish Empire was governed by members of the high aristocracy. As a consequence, Pomerania was not annexed to Sweden like the French war gains, which would have meant abolition of serfdom which since the Pomeranian peasant laws of 1616 was practiced there in its most severe form. Instead, it remained part of the Holy Roman Empire, making the Swedish rulers Reichsfürsten (imperial princes) and leaving the nobility in full charge of the rural areas and its inhabitants. While the Swedish Pomeranian nobles were subjected to reduction when the late 17th century kings regained political power, the provisions of the peace of Westphalia continued to prevent the pursuit of the uniformity policy in Pomerania until the Holy Roman empire was dissolved in 1806.
