Talks in Cairo aimed at securing a fresh ceasefire in Gaza are under renewed strain, with both sides in the conflict issuing warnings.
Palestinian negotiators said they would leave on Sunday if Israel did not attend without preconditions.
Israel insists it will not return until militant rocket fire ends.
Britain, France and Germany issued a statement calling on Israel and Hamas to agree a new truce, after last week\'s 72-hour ceasefire was not renewed.
That ceasefire ended on Friday morning. At least eight Palestinians were killed on Saturday as Israel launched 50 airstrikes, health officials said.
Israeli authorities said 25 rockets were fired from Gaza towards southern Israel on Saturday. A further two were fired on Sunday morning.
At least 1,960 people have died since violence erupted in Gaza in early July.
More than 1,900 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed, according to the UN.
Sixty-seven people have died on the Israeli side, including three civilians.
\'Crucial 24 hours\'
Israeli negotiators have already left Egypt and said they would not return to the indirect negotiations until rocket fire from Gaza stopped.
The Jerusalem Post quoted senior Israeli officials as saying that if rocket fire continued, \

Unthinkable just a few years ago, Selahattin Demirtas' bid for Turkey's highest office underscores how Kurdish politics has entered the mainstream even as Kurds in neighboring Syria and Iraq push for more autonomy. Peace talks between Turkey and Kurdish rebels, overseen by Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan to try to end a three-decade war, have brought two years of calm and paved the way for Demirtas to run as Turkey's first openly Kurdish presidential candidate. Iraq conflict: Obama vows to stop jihadist state | BREAKING NEWS - 09 AUG 2014 For more Latest and Breaking News Headlines SUBSCRIBE to https://www.youtube.com/user/ZakWorldNEWS US President Barack Obama has said he will not allow Sunni Muslim jihadists to carve out a "caliphate", or Islamic state, straddling Syria and Iraq. The US has been carrying out air strikes on Islamic State (IS) militants in northern Iraq. Mr Obama said there would be further air strikes if necessary but no US military operation on the ground. The UK has sent a plane to join the Americans in dropping relief to beleaguered religious refugees. A cargo plane left RAF Brize Norton in England carrying British humanitarian aid to Iraq, the BBC understands. IS, a jihadist group formerly known as Isis, has taken control of swathes of Iraq and Syria and has also seized the country's largest dam. As well as persecuting Christian and Yazidi minorities, the group is confronting the Kurds in northern Iraq and threatening the city of Irbil. Mr Obama has accused Iraq's Shia Arab majority of squandering an opportunity to share power with the Sunni Arabs and Kurds. 'We can run them off' In an interview for the New York Times, Mr Obama said: "We're not going to let them [IS] create some caliphate through Syria and Iraq, but we can only do that if we know that we've got partners on the ground who are capable of filling the void." A man was killed when a charging e-cigarette exploded and ignited oxygen equipment he is believed to have been using, Merseyside's fire service said. The 62-year-old victim was found in the living room of a house in Penkett Road, Wallasey. A small fire in the bedroom of the property had gone out before firefighters arrived, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) said. The exact cause of death is yet to be established, with an inquest now due. Mixing warning An MFRS spokesman said: "The subsequent fire investigation identified that an e-cigarette that had been charging in the bedroom exploded, caught fire and ignited the oxygen tube of an oxygen concentrator, which may have been in use by the occupier." Myles Platt, MFRS area manager said: "The investigation into the cause of this fire is continuing but at this stage it is thought that the charging device being used at the time may not have been the one supplied with the e-cigarette. "We urge people to always use electrical equipment in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and guidance, always ensure that no electrical items are left charging overnight or left unattended for a long period when being charged, and do not mix parts from different e-cigarettes. "Only use the original charger or electrical cables supplied and ensure you purchase electrical items from a reputable source." Since January, nine fires involving e-cigarettes have been recorded on Merseyside. Service representatives are speaking to people in the Wallasey area to give advice about the safe use of e-cigarettes following Tuesday's fire.

Britain, France and Germany issued a statement calling on Israel and Hamas to agree a new truce, after last week's 72-hour ceasefire was not renewed. 'Crucial 24 hours' Israeli negotiators have already left Egypt and said they would not return to the indirect negotiations until rocket fire from Gaza stopped. The Jerusalem Post quoted senior Israeli officials as saying that if rocket fire continued, "all options" were on the table, not just air strikes. Communications Minister Gilad Erdan told Israel's Channel 2 that "a wide ground incursion and the toppling of Hamas is being discussed". The head of the Palestinian delegation in Cairo, Azzam Ahmed, told Reuters that his team would leave on Sunday if Israel placed conditions on negotiations. He said: "Tomorrow we have a meeting with the Egyptian leadership in the morning and on the basis of that we will decide our future plan. We will leave Cairo tomorrow if it is confirmed to us that they will not return except with conditions." Hamas deputy chief Mussa Abu Marzuq accused Israel of stalling and said the next 24 hours would decide the fate of the Cairo talks. Obama On Post-9/11 CIA:
Obama On Post-9/11 CIA: "We Tortured Some Folks"

President Obama Says After 9-11, US 'Tortured Some Folks'. (ABC) The United States tortured al Qaida detainees captured after the 9/11 attacks, President Obama acknowledged Friday, in some of his most expansive comments to date about a controversial set of CIA practices that he banned after taking office. "We tortured some folks," Obama said at a televised news conference at the White House. "We did some things that were contrary to our values." Addressing the impending release of a Senate report that criticizes CIA treatment of detainees, Obama said he believed the mistreatment happened because of the pressure national security officials felt to forestall another attack. He said Americans should not be too "sanctimonious," about passing judgment through the lens of a seemingly safer present day. That posture, which he expressed as a candidate for national office in 2008 and early in his presidency, explains why Obama did not push to pursue criminal charges against the Bush era officials who carried out the CIA program. To this day, many of those officials insist that what they did was not torture, which is a felony under U.S. law. Still, Obama's remarks on Friday were more emphatic than his previous comments on the subject, including a 2009 speech in which he trumpeted his ban of "so-called enhanced interrogation techniques," and "brutal methods," but did not flatly say the U.S. has engaged in torture. "I believe that waterboarding was torture and, whatever legal rationales were used, it was a mistake," he said in April 2009. Obama on Friday did not address two other central arguments of the soon-to-be-released Senate report — that the brutal interrogations didn't produce life-saving intelligence, and that the CIA lied to other elements of the U.S. government about exactly what it was doing. The president also expressed confidence in his CIA director, John Brennan, in the wake of an internal CIA report documenting that the spy agency improperly accessed Senate computers. There have been calls for his resignation on Capitol Hill.
