Czech Republic Outside of Prague
Czech Republic Outside of Prague
Prague has been on the radar a most travelers for many years now, and for good reason. Its bohemia meets fine culture and has artists, musicians, food, wine, and culture to match its reputation. However there is so much more to the Czech Republic than the crowd-drawing major cities. Outside of the cities you can find a more authentic Czech experience. There are historic villages, small family owned wineries, and several festivals that bring together the culture, food and drinks of the region. So if you are looking to escape the crowds and the cities, venture out to some of these lesser known, but equally has fantastic, town in the Czech Republic. Moravia region This region in the Czech Republic seems like a land that has sprung up straight out of a fairytale. The rolling, flower-covered hills, the vineyards and the ancient villages with their story book castles will force you to stop and admire the glory of this place. The villages are steeped in history where you can find fascinating folklore traditions that span back generations. There are several historical monument, castles and villages you can choose from or see them all! Mikulov is a fairytale town set in the heart of rolling vineyard countryside. The town is near the magnificent Palava nature reserve and is one of the best places to sip incredible wines without having to pay extreme prices like you might in some of the more famous wine-growing regions of the world. Here you can tour the Mikulov castle and chateau, sample wine in historic cellars or quaint cafes. There is a museum dedicated to the local history as well. It's a charming and very romantic village in the southern Moravia region. Olomouc is probably one of the best towns outside of Prague to visit. This city is so charming and beautiful, you won't regret one moment spent in this historical city. The main monument here is the Holy Trinity Column located in the city's central square. The Hall Tower will give you panoramic views of the city and surrounding hillsides. There is a wealth of medieval streets and buildings. The best thing about this city though is the wealth of stories surrounding it including the ancient kings and princes of the kingdom of Bohemia at the Olomouc Castle or Archbishop's Palace. It also had a fantastic nightlife and in the warmer months you can enjoy beer and wine festivals. Sample local wine and their famous cheeses as well. Rejviz is a small mountain village with the beauty of nature all around it. This village has great charm and history and even famous ghostly legends. The town has old half timbered houses surrounded by forests and meadows and is one of the most picturesque places to visit. You can have a famous custom made wooden chair carved just for you or taking a superb hiking or cycling tour of the natural preserve nearby. Great Moss Lake is an ancient body of water who thick layer of Moss gives the Lake its name. Here is where you will find the legends of the phantom ghost who wanders the misty bogs grabbing those they may stray from the pathways. Rejviz is set in the lovely Jeseniky Mountains. You can explore winding karst cave systems, several waterfalls and romantic towns along with Rejviz. Winter brings great opportunities for skiing in a place where the crowds are much less than in the larger resorts in other parts of Europe. You can also find fantastic spas, restaurants, and golf resorts. Karlovy Vary In the northwest border of the Czech Republic is Karlovy Vary, a true jewel of the region. One of the best things to enjoy here is the elegant spas in what is known as the West Bohemian Spa Triangle, including beer and wine spas. Here you can immerse yourself in hot baths while sipping some of the regions best refreshments. It is a very artistic and cultural area with a unique character. The town has 13 hot mineral spas that not only have relaxing but healing properties. There is a wealth of hotels to suit every budget as well. The Grand Hotel Pupp is considered one of the best in the world. Another unique hotel is the Hotel Thermal with hot springs and a massive outdoor pool that gives you a panoramic view of the entire town. The town is perfect for a romantic stroll and the surrounding forest covered mountains are breathtaking. The food and wine here are a perfect treat any time of the day as well. These are just a few of the splendid treasures that the Czech Republic has to offer. While Prague and Bohemia should not be missed, consider taking a train to one of these one of a kind and unique villages in scenic beauty the this storied land. http://EzineArticles.com/8289973- published: 02 Feb 2014

The Fearless Celtic Warriors
The Fearless Celtic Warriors
The Celts (/ˈkɛlts/, occasionally /ˈsɛlts/, see pronunciation of Celtic) or Kelts were an ethnolinguistic group of tribal societies in Iron Age and Medieval Europe who spoke Celtic languages and had a similar culture, although the relationship between the ethnic, linguistic and cultural elements remains uncertain and controversial. The earliest archaeological culture that may justifiably be considered Proto-Celtic is the Late Bronze Age Urnfield culture of Central Europe, which flourished from around 1200 BC. Their fully Celtic descendants in central Europe were the people of the Iron Age Hallstatt culture (c. 800--450 BC) named for the rich grave finds in Hallstatt, Austria. By the later La Tène period (c. 450 BC up to the Roman conquest), this Celtic culture had expanded by diffusion or migration to the British Isles (Insular Celts), France and The Low Countries (Gauls), Bohemia, Poland and much of Central Europe, the Iberian Peninsula (Celtiberians, Celtici and Gallaeci) and northern Italy (Golaseccans and Cisalpine Gauls) and, following the Gallic invasion of the Balkans in 279 BC, as far east as central Anatolia (Galatians). Beginning in 2010, it was tentatively proposed that the language of the Tartessian inscriptions of south Portugal and southwest Spain (dating from the 7th--5th centuries BC) is a Celtic one; however, this interpretation has largely been rejected by the academic community. The earliest undisputed direct examples of a Celtic language are the Lepontic inscriptions, beginning in the 6th century BC. Continental Celtic languages are attested almost exclusively through inscriptions and place-names. Insular Celtic is attested beginning around the 4th century through ogham inscriptions, although it was clearly being spoken much earlier. Celtic literary tradition begins with Old Irish texts around the 8th century. Coherent texts of Early Irish literature, such as the Táin Bó Cúailnge (The Cattle Raid of Cooley), survive in 12th-century recensions. By the mid 1st millennium AD, with the expansion of the Roman Empire and the Great Migrations (Migration Period) of Germanic peoples, Celtic culture and Insular Celtic had become restricted to Ireland, the western and northern parts of Great Britain (Wales, Scotland, and Cornwall), the Isle of Man, and Brittany. Between the fifth and eighth centuries, the Celtic-speaking communities in these Atlantic regions emerged as a reasonably cohesive cultural entity. They had a common linguistic, religious, and artistic heritage that distinguished them from the culture of the surrounding polities. By the 6th century, however, the Continental Celtic languages were no longer in wide use. Insular Celtic culture diversified into that of the Gaels (Irish, Scottish and Manx) and the Brythonic Celts (Welsh, Cornish, and Bretons) of the medieval and modern periods. A modern "Celtic identity" was constructed as part of the Romanticist Celtic Revival in Great Britain, Ireland, and other European territories, such as Portugal and Spanish Galicia. Today, Irish, Scottish Gaelic, Welsh, and Breton are still spoken in parts of their historical territories, and Cornish and Manx are undergoing a revival.- published: 15 Dec 2013
