Bane: I will break you, Batman, then the bruja!::Batman: No, Bane, this time I break YOU.
The Scarecrow: [When Batman loses to Scarecrow] And at the end of fear, oblivion.
Riddler: What? You found 75% of my challenges? This can't be right.
The Joker: [on the asylum television sets] *I'm* in control of the asylum. You're not going anywhere I don't want you to. Understand?::Batman: If you think I'll let you run...::The Joker: Blah, blah, blah! Always with the hero speak! I'm getting bored of watching you. Why don't you just come find me?
The Joker: Welcome to the madhouse, Batman! I set a trap and you sprang it gloriously! Now let's get this party started.
The Joker: Hey Bats, go easy on him, hmmm? For me...? Oh hell, why do I care? Do your worst!
The Joker: I want everyone to know that I really appreciate all the hard work. You know, watching you guys is like a night in, watching my favorite movie. What was the name of that movie again? The Joker: Ah, it's always nice to return to my sweet little ha-ha-hacienda.
The Elizabeth Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane, commonly referred to simply as Arkham Asylum, is a fictional psychiatric hospital in the DC Comics Universe, usually appearing in stories featuring Batman. Many psychopathic criminals from across the DC Universe, mostly from Batman's own rogues gallery (such as the Joker, Poison Ivy, the Riddler, Two-Face, the Scarecrow, Bane, Killer Croc, and Harley Quinn) have been imprisoned within the Asylum and also escaped from it. The Arkham Asylum is named after the Sanatorium in the fictional city of Arkham, Massachusetts, found in many of H.P. Lovecraft's short horror and science fiction stories, such as "The Colour Out of Space".
Arkham Asylum is located on the outskirts of Gotham City and is where those of Batman's foes considered to be legally insane are incarcerated (other foes are incarcerated at Blackgate Penitentiary). Although it has had numerous administrators, recent comic books have featured Jeremiah Arkham. Inspired by the works of H. P. Lovecraft, and in particular his fictional city of Arkham, Massachusetts, the asylum was created by Dennis O'Neil and first appeared in Batman #258 (October 1974); much of its back-story was created by Len Wein during the 1980s.
