The status of the newspaper industry

The print newspaper has remained as one of the most reliable source of information for many people all over the world. Although there are several types of newspapers targeting different niche markets most of them try to appeal to the general market of readers providing content from various sources. The general newspaper appeals to more readers as it caters for different groups of people. The print newspaper is currently facing a number of challenges that have forced some media houses to go under. Over the years a number of leading newspapers have been shrinking as a result of the high cost of printing and publishing.

Generally the cost of operating printing services for the media houses that are running print newspapers has been skyrocketing. And although everything has been going up many of the media houses have been reluctant to hike their prices. This is because in most cases over the years an increase in the price of newspapers has always been received by a lowered uptake of the paper. This affects the bottom line of the organizations and as such increasing the price has not been one of the favored options. Rather most leaders of the media houses have been opting for more subtle measures that have seen the sizes of their papers get smaller. This has been in an effect to reduce their operation and production costs per newspaper.

The development of information technology has also dealt a major blow to the print newspaper. IT has changed the mode of operation for many businesses and the print newspaper has not been left out. The wise newspaper production companies have embraced the use of IT and its resources to survive the stiff market competition. Most of the print newspaper houses have had to generate content for publication online. This is because many people are now spending more time online conducting all manner of activities and statistics indicate that more newspaper readers read the online versions often.

This development has some how enabled many organizations to survive competition and at the same time lower their operational costs. But it has also had a negative impact on the organizational revenues. Some of the well managed newspapers have had to diversify into other lines of business as well to sustain their operations. However the print newspaper will be there in the next foreseeable future as there hasn’t been any major development to push this edition of the paper out of the market.

Can traditional newspapers survive in the internet age?

In previous years, if you wanted to read about the news, then you have to go and buy some newspapers. This is definitely true because you had to have a daily or monthly subscription if you want to learn about the latest topics in the industry. But with the rise of the internet age, things have definitely changed. Nowadays, more and more people are using the internet if they wanted to get some updates about certain events. In fact, a lot of people do not read newspapers because they already have their own subscriptions to different websites. So what does this mean to the newspaper industry? Will the traditional papers and media outlets survive in the modern age?

Does it even stand a chance with the rising popularity of the internet? There are truly a lot of questions surrounding this topic, which has led to the growing concerns regarding the viability of newspaper articles. If you want to learn more about this, continue reading.

The sad reality is, a lot of companies have definitely experienced the crunch because of the lower number of newspaper subscriptions in most countries. This is probably because a lot of people are already turning to the internet if they want to learn about the world news, local news, or science news and updates. Most of the websites offer information for free, so this definitely translates to a lot of savings. You will even be able to find celebrity and entertainment news on the internet. Because of the accessibility and convenience of the internet, traditional media outlets are already experiencing a slump in sales and readership. But does this also translate to the death of newspapers?

Newspapers still present a different kind of media experience to a lot of people. When you talk about responsible journalism and factual reports, people still turn to traditional media for the latest news and updates. Readers still look for a source that they can trust, and newspaper articles are definitely the best way to go. However, traditional media such as newspapers and magazines should definitely come up with fresh, new and exciting ways on how to catch the attention of millions of readers. These companies should definitely acknowledge the fact that they would need to come up with different changes in order to survive in the industry. This is absolutely something that they should look into because people still believe in newspapers because of the level of respect that they have for these media outlets.

How to achieve lasting weight loss for women over 40

As you are no doubt aware, losing weight can be tough. This is especially true if you are a woman over the age of 40, as it probably seems like no matter what you do, the weight just comes back within a few weeks.

With this in mind, it’s important that you start to look at ways to achieve lasting weight loss, so you can look and feel great 365 days of the year, as well as greatly reduce your risk of experiencing health problems from being overweight.

If you are ready to take the plunge into long lasting weight loss, then the following tips will help you get started…

Weight loss aids

While there is much debate on these type of products, weight loss aids such as Garcinia Cambogia extract has been getting some positive reviews in the press and media.

While a weight loss aid is no substitute for a healthy lifestyle, they can compliment a good diet and exercise plan, and help you achieve long lasting weight loss without feeling moody and depressed all of the time.

Set smaller goals

One of the main reasons why many women over 40 fail to experience long lasting weight loss, is because they follow fad diets that are supposed to help them ìlose weight fast.î

Of course, while these kind of diets may work in the short-term, in the long-term, they will only end up leaving you feeling miserable. When this happens, you then quickly give up on the diet and put all of the weight back on within days.

Instead, it’s a much better idea to set small goals to achieve the weight loss that you desire. This way, you don’t end up feeling overwhelmed, and you can start losing weight without being deprived.

Exercise on a regular basis

It’s no wonder that the majority of women over 40 cannot achieve lasting weight loss when you consider that they barely ever exercise.

By taking part in regular exercise, this has the effect of increasing your metabolism, which in turn increases your bodies efficiency in burning fat. Needless to say, once this starts happening then it is far easier to lose weight, as you literally turn your body into a fat burning furnace.

Reward yourself

While it may seem that dieting and weight loss is all about depriving yourself of the things you love, this need not be the case.

It’s a good idea to reward yourself at regular intervals, so you are much more likely to stay the course and achieve lasting weight loss in the long-term.

In search of low cost car and van insurance

In most of the states it is illegal to drive around without a valid car insurance cover. Thus it is very important to ensure that you have a valid car insurance cover that meets the minimum legal requirements in your state. This is easier said than done especially in these very difficult economic times where the rate of inflation is too high and unemployment is probably at its highest. These difficult economic conditions are compelling people to device ways of dealing with the high cost of living. Some car owners are turning to more drastic measures to cope.

Rather than having to deal with the car insurance firms these car owners have decided to leave their cars at home! But for those who feel that they need to use their cars other easier cost cutting techniques on their insurance premiums have been their points of focus. Most of these people who seek to get low cost car insurance policies have been taking most of their time in shopping around for low cost car insurance just before the expiry of their car insurance policies. They might even spare a few months to do the shopping taking their time to analysis the details of all the information that they come across.

However finding a low cost car insurance cover is not just about the information that is picked and analyzed, it involves more than this. The car owner has to be aware of the fundamentals that make up the low cost car insurance policies. This is very vital as it will guide the car owner into picking a car insurance firm that is able to keep its promise of providing a low cost cover. Ideally a low cost insurance cover is based upon several issues that are also intertwined with the car owner. For example the value of the car is one aspect that is considered in determining the cost of the cover.

Hence if you are shopping for a low cost cover then you will have to invest in a car whose value is slightly low. The car owner’s driving history is also relevant when it comes to the cost of car insurance. Drivers who are considered as safe drivers get lower cost policies for their cars as they are low risk clients. This means that as a driver you will have to ensure that you drive safely for you to enjoy low cost car insurance cover.

How the media can help shape public opinion

The media is actually very powerful because it can influence and shape the perception of the public. This is the main reason why there are a lot of responsibilities involved with the press because of the big impact that they have on the minds of different individuals. But a lot of people ask, does the press or the online media truly have a great effect on millions of people? How do they influence the opinions and perception of the public? If you watch the news, you will definitely get a lot of information and updates on various fields of interests. The media has the power to present all of the reports regarding a specific event, which is the main source of information for millions of people from around the world. If you want to understand what happened during a particular event, then you can simply watch some news and media updates regarding that event.

If you take a very close look at television shows and news reports, you will probably notice that some of these outlets have a narrow message that can be etched within the minds of people. In previous years, news reports were highly limited to presenting the different facts and information surrounding a specific event. It was considered to be irresponsible for reports and news anchors to incorporate their own thoughts and ideas regarding a certain situation. But things are quite different these days. More and more anchors and news presenters already give in their own opinions and interjections, which can also strongly influence how one perceives a specific news item. Some of news reports are also based according to how the press TV wants the public to perceive a specific person. For example, a show may present all of the possibilities of a suspected murdered to be guilty, but fails to present the other side of the story. This is truly one of the most important topics that most experts discuss about media bias, press release and other media matters.

On the other hand, there is another side to the story because mass media can also have a very positive effect on people. It can evoke feelings of love, national pride and patriotism, especially in situations involving national difficulties or catastrophes. Mass media definitely has a great impact on how people get the message regarding a specific news item.

Based on the above points, media definitely has a great responsibility in shaping the perception and opinions of different people.

What is no win no fee?

Before you purchased your insurance cover or even after having made the purchase you must have heard insurers or even some insured persons talking of having a no win no fee agreement. This is an industry jargon whose rise has been phenomenal over the years. For those who are new to the insurance industry then you will be hearing these words more often and you would probably like to understand its origin and its applicability.

No win no fee traces it origin in the year 2000 when the legislation relating to personal injury insurance claims compensation was changed. Originally it was known as the conditional agreement. As a result of the change in legislation relating to insurance claims solicitors came up with the idea of no win no fee to allow the insured persons to follow through their claims. This is because the new legislation relating to lodging of claims made it hard for people to lodge successful claims.

Simply stated, the no win no fee agreement is entered into by the insured who has suffered an injury he is insured against, with an accident claims solicitor. These companies are often found online, trading under cleverly worded brand names (see sites such as whiplashclaim.org.uk). The personal injury solicitor assists the claimant with legal advice on how to lodge a successful claim. With this agreement the insured is protected against costs that accrue as the fee payable to the solicitor until the full compensation is received. Thus the no win no fee agreement is meant to allow more people to follow through their personal injury claims with their insurance companies.

Depending on where you are the no win no fee agreement can prove to be very useful. This is because in some places you might find that the legislation relating to personal injury claims and compensation allows the solicitor to get his fee from the opponent’s insurance company. Even the cost of the after the event premium for the claimant is recovered from the opponent’s insurance company, thus the client gets his full compensation from the claim.

However there are other fees that are payable by individuals who have a no win no fee agreement if the claim is unsuccessful. The fees payable include;

• Legal costs for the other party
• Your disbursements as well as the other party who is involved in the claim

This is why it is advisable for a person who wants to have a no win no fee agreement to get an insurance policy to cover the above costs before the case starts.

Community garden needs the help of local businesses

Nothing puts ‘community’ in community garden like people coming together to help, and that’s exactly what one local college’s students are asking.

Several horticulture students from Newcastle-under-Lyme have come together to ask for aid from local businesses in order to put together a garden at Newcastle Fire Sation, and have taken it upon themselves to write to quite a few local firms in a bid to solicit donated materials in order to achieve their goal. Items requested include several things such as compost bins, trellis for climbing fruit, and raised planting beds, which will all hopefully be sourced from civic-minded local businesses interested in giving back to the community.

NULC horticulture lecturer, Nick Anderson, was proud of his students’ dedication to bringing the community garden project to life, but he was quick to say that support from local businesses is needed in order to achieve their goals. It doesn’t take a lot to help out the students, he added, remarking that any size donation would be welcome and would go far in creating the kind of community garden that local children could enjoy for years to come.

The entire garden has been designed by college horticulture students, and a detailed plan is on display at the Skills and Technology Centre of NULC. Once all the materials they need have been gathered, students hope to begin work this coming April in order to provide a place for local primary school pupils to learn about horticulture and wildlife, with the plan being to give them an opportunity to help plant and care for the many different plants that the community garden would support.

In addition to that, the garden will have a sand pit and even a wormery for the use of local community children, and will be fitted with an outdoor paved area that could be used as a community learning environment and a classroom. Wheelchair accessibility was designed directly into the plans for the community garden by NULC students, which means that the garden will be friendly to people with disabilities and from all walks of life.

I think it’s an absolute splendid idea and I can only hope that the hundreds of local businesses the horticulture students are soliciting for donations will respond favourably. The opportunity to cultivate a love of nature in local younger children is an absolute necessity, as we have a responsibility to raise a generation of children that will carry on in keeping the environment safe and treasured long after we’re gone; on top of that, a local community garden can be a splendid place to spend a few hours for even the most curmudgeonly, as few can keep a smile from their face after walking the paths of a lovely garden!
