True to Parajanov's unique method, the ensuing episodic tale of his meetings, experiences, difficulties and growth are told in a blaze of visually splendid 'tableaux vivants' and miraculous images and symbols (doves, swans, pomegranates), intercut with religious iconic works and artefacts, and overlaid with song and poetry. The source is a story by poet Mikhail Lermontov, but the interpretation, though grounded in the world of ethnic cultural references of the Turkish (Muslim) Azerbaijani peoples, is free, open, sensual and personal. Il est tombé amoureux de la fille d'un riche marchand, la belle Magoul-Méguérie. Voici venir les fiançailles, puis la demande en mariage... mais le père de la fiancée n'a que faire de ce misérable qui n'offre, en guise de dot, que des pétales de fleurs... La douleur du poète est grande. Les deux jeunes gens se jurent fidélité dans la chapelle bleue. Achik Kerib dispose de mille jours et mille nuits pour faire fortune, faute de quoi, au mille et unième, sa belle épousera de force son puissant rival. Un cavalier, ressemblant étrangement à son rival, se veut compagnon du poète. Alors que celui-ci se baigne, le cavalier lui vole ses vêtements et répand la nouvelle de sa mort par noyade. De douleur, la mère d'Achik Kerib devient aveugle. Mendiant, poète errant, Achik Kerib reçoit la bénédiction d'un vieux sage mourant. Azive et Vale, protecteurs des poètes, tirent le jeune homme de son sommeil et font appel à ses dons pour célébrer le mariage des aveugles, puis celui des sourds-muets. Achik échappe à la prison dorée du terrible Nadir Pacha. Le sultan-guerrier le menace des pires foudres s'il ne se plie à sa volonté : jouer du luth revêtu d'une armure. Le monastère est profané. Achik se confesse, prie le Dieu unique. Un saint, sur un cheval blanc, entend sa prière. Grâce à son aide, le poète revient juste à temps, le mille et unième jour, à l'instant où sa promise se prépare à célébrer ses noces à contre-coeur. La mère du poète reconnaît son fils grâce au son de son saaz et perd le voile noir qui lui cachait la lumière, Achik Kerib retrouve sa bien-aimée et renouvelle sa demande en mariage auprès du père Une colombe blanche se pose sur une caméra. http://www.parajanov.com The Music: SKRUK is, with its characteristic sound and repertoire, recognized as one of the leading choirs in Norway. During the past 30 years its members have toured Norway regurarly, giving concerts in hundreds of churches throughout the country, and performed at Norway’s most important music festivals. The choir has frequently appeared on national TV , and its recordings are regularly played on Norwegian radio stations. SKRUK has also been on tours in Sweden, USA, Ecuador and Azerbaijan. The 48 members come from different parts of Norway; however, most of them are connected to the Sunnmøre, a region which is situated on the west coast. SKRUK is well known for its many cultural exchange projects, and is constantly taking on new and exciting challenges. So far, their 21 albums have been released on several continents which, this year lead to SKRUK receiving the Bektas Özen folk music award in Turkey for their record “Landet vi kommer fra”.The Director Per Oddvar Hildre is often referred to as “a choir magician”. Remarkably SKRUK has been able to maintain its sound from its first recording in 1977 until present date, despite the fact that more than half of the choir members have been replaced during the past 10 years.
