Disheartened when his story about Canadian snipers possibly mutilating corpses in Afghanistan is buried, Luke (Nick Stahl) quits his job but is even more determined to return to Afghanistan to get the real story. With his offbeat buddy, Tom (Nicolas Wright), tagging along, Luke returns to Afghanistan and intends to gather enough evidence to get his old story into print. But he soon finds that the country is an even more dangerous place than when he left. To make matters worse, his old friend and fixer, Mateen (Stephen Lobo) has been hired away by Luke's journalistic nemesis, Imran Sahar (Vik Sahay). Soon the trip for Luke and Tom in Afghanistan turns into a surreal and perilous adventure, a journey into an alternate reality, filtered through a haze of gun smoke.

Before leaving on his second tour in Afghanistan, Marine Captain Sam Cahill, a leader, an athlete, a good husband and father, welcomes his screw-up brother Tommy home from prison. He'd robbed a bank. In country, Sam's helicopter is shot down and all are presumed dead. Back home, while Sam wastes away as a prisoner in a remote encampment, Tommy tries to take care of the widow and her two children. While imprisoned, Sam experiences horrors unbearable, so when he's rescued and returns home, he's silent, detached, without affect, and he's convinced his wife and brother have slept together. Demons of war possess him; what will silence them?

The army claims it has South Waziristan under control, but is it a ticking time bomb of extremism? In a military hospital in Islamabad, hundreds of "profoundly damaged and disabled" soldiers are being treated. They've come from the western tribal belt, where for the last nine years Pakistan has been waging a largely hidden war against extremists. "There has been this double game that has gone on for many years, of Pakistan supporting the NATO presence in Afghanistan and at the same time allowing the Afghan Taliban to operate against the NATO forces", explains Pakistan's foremost expert on Islamists in the region, Ahmed Rashid. In a recent trip to Pakistan to report on the recent spike in the region's violence and bloodshed, Suroosh Alvi heard over and over the same sentiment from people on the ground: America's war on terror is falling flat on its face. The military conflict in neighboring Afghanistan, repeatedly cited by locals, sends a constant flood of guns, refugees, militants, and heroin flowing into Pakistan. Heroin is now actually cheaper than hashish in cities like Lahore, and the Kalashnikov culture, the foundation of which was laid 30 years ago when the CIA financed the mujahideen, is all-consuming. According to the Pakistanis he spoke to, it's all taken a devastating toll on the country and is creating the next generation of militants. Tanker graveyard: Charred remains of 200 oil tanker lorries is all that remains after set Taliban fighters set them ablaze claiming the fuel was on its way to Nato forces These are the charred remains of hundreds of hundreds of fuel tanker trucks targeted by the Taliban in Afghanistan. The blaze was triggered by a sticky bomb on the outskirts of the Afghan capital, prompting angry drivers to block a major highway to demand reimbursement for their losses. Hundreds of other drivers stood by helplessly on Saturday morning, unable to salvage any property as flames and smoke rose from the area and several fire engines rushed to the site. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack. Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the militants were targeting fuel tankers belonging to Nato forces. 'We couldn't tell if the attackers were Taliban or other people,' one of the drivers, 35-year-old Juma Gul said. 'They were dressed in uniforms we couldn't understand what was happening. They were shooting toward the drivers and they were setting the tankers on fire. 'The gunmen were targeting any of the drivers who wanted to return to their trucks.' Kabul police spokesman Hashmat Stanikzai said about 200 trucks caught fire late Friday and continued to burn through Saturday morning, but he did not confirm the cause or provide other details. The Interior Ministry said it has set up a team to investigate the incident. Truck drivers later blocked the main highway between Kabul and the southern city of Kandahar to protest what they said was a slow response by the government and to demand reimbursement for their losses.

Pakistani Taliban claims responsibility for Karachi airport attack; 28 dead For more Latest and Breaking News Headlines SUBSCRIBE to The Pakistani Taliban has claimed responsibility for an hours-long attack at the country's largest and busiest airport that killed at least 28 people. Speaking from an undisclosed location, Pakistani Taliban commander Abdullah Bahar said the attack overnight at Karachi's Jinnah International Airport was retaliation for the death of former chief Hakimullah Mehsud. Mehsud was killed in a U.S. drone strike in November in North Waziristan. Bahar warned more attacks will follow. ''As long as we are breathing, our attacks will be continuing 'til the end of our lives.'' Hours of chaos Late Sunday night, militants armed with guns, grenades and suicide vests stormed the cargo area of the airport. The airport's cargo area is about a kilometer (0.62 miles) away from the area where commercial planes take off. The attack lasted five hours. When it was over, 28 people were dead -- including eight members of airport security forces, two Pakistan International Airlines employees and one ranger. Another 24 people were injured, the military said. All 10 militants involved in the attack were killed, military spokesman Maj. Gen. Asim Bajwa said. Two of them detonated suicide vests, he said. A building caught fire in the attack, but no planes were damaged, Bajwa said. Some Pakistani media reported a renewed gun battle at the airport later Monday morning. But officials told CNN the noise was from fire-heated chemical containers exploding. Still, as a precaution, security forces opened fire, said Ahmad Chinoy of the Citizen's Police Liaison Committee. He said he was 100% sure there were no militants left in the airport. The prime minister's office said flights will resume Monday evening.
