Surfer Rugby Tackles a Rival Who Kept 'Cutting Him Off' A New Zealander has taken out a fellow surfer mid-wave after the Brazilian man dropped into the wave right in front of him and cut him off. Wave rage! Watch surfer rugby tackle a rival who kept 'cutting in on him' as they battled for the same piece of ocean Footage showing a serious case of wave rage has emerged after a surfer from New Zealand seemed to get sick of fighting for space in the surf. The 15 second video shot by Guy Mac sees Tim Thompson take out a Brazilian surfer in a massive tackle after he apparently kept cutting him off in the line up to take waves. Thompson enters the frame from the left, travelling across the wave at a great speed. He is still soaring across the surf when a Brazilian surfer drops in right in front of him. Riding lower on the wave than his fellow surfer, Thompson then appears to make a sharp and deliberate cut upwards across the water. The Kiwi then smashes into the other surfer, and the collision sends both men and their boards flying. The two surfers disappear into the foam and Thompson's board shoots up into the air above the spot where the pair land. Thompson told GoSurf.nz.co he was simply enjoying time out in the water with his mates when the waves got a little crowded. The New Zealander said the 'crowd' didn't deter him from the water and was happy to just wait his turn and enjoy the rest of the session. 'Oh well, it was bound to happen at some point, so you just smile, wait you're turn and try enjoy the remainder of you're session (sic),' he told the website. 'This would work except the newcomers have a different attitude, continuous snaking, consecutive drop-ins and generally bad attitudes would make you think you have entered into a WQS (World qualifying series) final.' 'As luck would have it, one particular honing missile decided to head my way to fade me for the third consecutive time, let's just say my exit off the wave was either poorly timed or perfectly executed, depending on how you look at the situation,' he said.- published: 23 Jul 2014

Portuguese shore This is the terrifying moment a British surfer hurtled down what experts are calling the biggest wave ever conquered. Father of two Andrew Cotton could only catch one wave over four hours at sea in perilous conditions. But even as he plummeted 80ft towards the Portuguese shore, Mr Cotton, 34, panicked as he felt himself being sucked back up. It was the first time the surfer called his wife to warn her of the conditions in his 10 years in the trade. 'I've never ridden a wave like that,' he said. 'I was hurtling down it so fast, but I couldn't get near the bottom. It was pushing me up all the time. 'It makes you wonder how far we can push it, how high can you go? 'It was scary. But you're always in the hands of mother nature and that's what's exciting.' Mr Cotton, who lives with his wife and children in Devon, flew out to the coastal town of Nazaré on Saturday night after his team heard news of a brewing storm. Portugal's so called 'natural wonder' has a canyon beneath the beach which sparks colossal waves, attracting surfers from all over the world. By Sunday morning, he was out in the water with dozens of people clustered on a nearby hill to watch. Facing such gigantic waves requires surfers to enlist a little extra help to line themselves up to ride the huge expanse of water. And so part time pro surfer, plumber and lifeguard Mr Cotton was carried by jet ski to catch the wave. Towed in by fellow surfer Garrett McNamara, the current world record holder for a 78ft wave, he admits the conditions were far from ideal.- published: 03 Feb 2014

24 year old Australian Surfer, Ben Linden, was killed by a Great White Shark in Western Australia while he was surfing on the beaches just south of Wedge Island yesterday. 5th Shark Attack recently. This is a popular spot for surfers which is north of Perth. A witness that was on his jet ski saw what he called a massive, massive, shark attack the surfer. Other surfers have seen this great white shark in the area recently and had named it Brutas because of it's giant size. Ben's girlfriend, Alana Noakes, paid tribute to Ben on his Facebook letting his friends and family know of the shark tragedy. She wrote " "Ben was the most amazing man, he lit up the lives of all who knew him." "He was the most talented, good-natured, beautiful person I've ever met. He was the love of my life, my best friend, my rock and my soulmate." There were no pictures of the actual shark attack on the man surfing and the number of huge sharks killing people is causing concern. This is the 5th shark related death in Australia in the last 10 months and there are reports of another shark sighting in north Wedge Island today. The Western Australian government has begun steps to have the protection of white sharks removed as it is becoming a major concern and in addition is said to be affecting tourism. Local police and volunteers are expected to continue to comb beaches for Linden's remains, which have yet to be recovered, while beaches in the immediate area will remain closed for at least a few days. Police will kill any big sharks they find over 4 meters in length. Meanwhile, Swimmers and surfers could reduce the risk of an attack by not entering the water at dawn, dusk or days with overcast. For the 'Say Yes to Me' video we worked with our friends Bobby Keegan and Lucas Marchesani. They both worked with us on the 'Floating Vibes' video off of our first record and we were looking to do something with a similar charm, but spookier. We had just been dropped from Warner Brothers and knew we were doomed financially-- we would have no budget and very little time. Our plan was to shoot the entire video in one night at a diner called Howley's in our home town, West Palm Beach. Howley's was a frequent hang-out for our dinner breaks during recording of the 'Tarot Classics' EP as well as the demos for 'Pythons'. The staff was accommodating and we managed to get the all the shots we needed in one night, while the bedroom shots were filmed in Thomas' mom's guest bedroom later that same evening.
