Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi addresses Muslims in Mosul Notoriously secretive head of the organisation formerly known as Isis comes out of hiding to lead Friday prayers as "Caliph Ibrahim" Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State, emerged from the shadows to lead Friday prayers at Mosul's Great Mosque this week, the first time the notoriously secretive jihadi has made such a public appearance. The head of the jihadist group chose the first Friday prayer service of Ramadan to make an audacious display of power in the city that the Sunni Islamists have now controlled for three weeks. Speaking from the balcony of the mosque, al-Baghdadi urged the world's Muslims to flock to the Islamic caliphate across Syria and Iraq declared by his organisation last week. Under his direction, the Islamic world would be returned to "dignity, might, rights and leadership", announced the self-anointed "Caliph Ibrahim". "I am the wali (leader) who presides over you, though I am not the best of you, so if you see that I am right, assist me," he said, dressed in a black turban and robe.

The bodies of three kidnapped Israeli teens were found, and Israel bombed Hamas in Gaza. Hamas extremists are alleged to have done the crime. Not to be outdone, Israeli extremists kidnapped a Palestinian teen, and he was murdered in retaliation. Closer to home, the illegal immigration crisis on the U.S. southern border is getting worse. There are charges by U.S. Congressmen of military bases turning into refugee camps for underage illegal immigrants. SIS jihadists have declared the captured territories from Iraq's Diyala province to Syria's Aleppo a new Islamic State - a 'caliphate.' They removed 'Iraq and the Levant' from their name and urged other radical Sunni groups to pledge their allegiance. ISIS announced that it should now be called 'The Islamic State' and declared its chief, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, as "the caliph" of the new state and "leader for Muslims everywhere," the radical Sunni militant group said in an audio recording distributed online on Sunday. This is the first time since the fall of the Ottoman Empire in 1923 that a Caliph -- which means a political successor to Prophet Muhammad -- has been declared. The decision was made following the group's Shura Council meeting on Sunday, according to ISIS spokesman Abu Mohammed al-Adnani. The new Islamic State has marked its borders, spanning the territory captured by the group in a bloody rampage, from Iraq's volatile Diyala province to Syria's war-torn Aleppo. The jihadist group has also claimed that they are now a legitimate state. The Islamic State has called on Al-Qaeda and other radical Sunni militants in the region to immediately pledge their allegiance, ushering in "a new era of international jihad." "The Shura [Council] of the Islamic State met and discussed this issue...The Islamic State decided to establish an Islamic caliphate and to designate a caliph for the state of the Muslims," said group spokesman Adnani. Like the comment to keep it on top for everyone else to see (PS: I don't sympathize just here to share news) From The Independent: The leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isis) has made his first official public appearance, ordering Muslims to obey him after declaring himself the head of an Islamic caliphate. Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was seen leading prayers at the Grand Mosque in Mosul in the video, believed to have been taken on Friday 4th July 2014. The elusive leader has previously been pictured in few photographs and was thought to have gone into hiding. According to AFP, he told worshippers at the mosque: "I am the wali (leader) who presides over you, though I am not the best of you, so if you see that I am right, assist me. "If you see that I am wrong, advise me and put me on the right track, and obey me as long as I obey God in you." The mosque was packed with men of all ages - some in traditional dress, some wearing football shirts and tracksuit bottoms. Mosul, one of Iraq's largest cities, has been under Isis control since June and the terrorist group now controls an area larger than Great Britain, straddling Iraq and Syria. Isis wants to be known just as the "Islamic State" and claims Baghdadi as the only legitimate successor to the Prophet Mohammed. He became head of al-Qa'ida in Iraq in 2010 after its former leaders were killed in an attack by US and Iraqi troops and is believed to be well-educated, with degrees in Islamic Studies. The Iraqi army has failed to slow the advance of Isis from northern Iraq, prompting the Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, to shake up the security forces. The chief of the army's ground forces and head of the federal police were removed from their posts on Saturday but no replacements have been named. Iraqi soldiers in the city of Mosul and across much of the country's north melted away in the face of the Isis, leaving Shia volunteers to attempt to defend their towns. The Prime Minister has already retired several senior army figures and vowed to bring the full weight of military law, including the execution of deserters, on anyone found to have fled battles. Isis extremists have destroyed at least 10 ancient shrines and Shia mosques in territory they have seized in northern Iraq, according images posted online and witnesses. The death toll of the group's bloody campaign cannot be counted but atrocities including summary killings, beheadings, crucifixions and massacres have been reported. The movement ascribes violently to Sunni Islam and considers Shias heretics, and the veneration of saints apostasy.

An off-shoot of al-Qaeda, the group has attacked rivals and killed hundreds for violating its strict interpretation of Islam. Despite the Iraqi army's efforts to dislodge the fighters, the group controls parts of two Iraqi cities in Anbar province, most of Mosul and several neighborhoods in Kirkuk province. ISIL also controls parts of northern Syria, including their stronghold the city of Raqqa, and are fighting rivals Al Nusra, for oil-rich city of Deir az Zor. Al Jazeera's Omar Al Saleh reports.
